MOUNT VERNON, Wash. -- A Mount Vernon man who was found naked in the girl's locker room at Marysville Getchell High School made his first court appearance in Snohomish County on Friday.

Brett Linert, 50, was arrested on suspicion of second degree burglary with sexual motivation after a janitor found him naked near the shower stalls with his clothes on his lap, according to the probable cause document.

It happened Monday evening during a junior varsity soccer match.

"It's kind of weird to think there was a guy in the locker room that makes me feel kind of uncomfortable," said student Emily Loutsis.

Linert, who is a self-employed contractor, later told police he was at the campus for the soccer game and that he was "trying to take care of personal hygiene problems."

However, the janitor said Linert was not wet and didn't have any shower toiletries with him, according to court documents.

"That is very odd because I don't want him stealing or doing anything bad to the students," said Loutsis.

Assistant Superintendent Ray Houser said it's still unclear how Linert got inside the building. Houser said the locker room doors are supposed to be locked at all times if the district's protocols are followed, but during the Linert incident he said that didn't happen.

District officials contacted athletes and their parents the day after the incident but none of them reported seeing the suspect on campus.

"I think we should have better security and if not someone supervising the locker rooms to make sure this doesn't happen again," said Loutsis.

If Linert is released from jail on a $15,000 bail he can't have contact with minors or be within 50 feet of schools.
