Police: Man was so drunk he didn't realize he was shot
SEATTLE -- A man who was shot during a fight in a bar early Sunday morning was so drunk he didn't even realize he was wounded, Seattle police said.
The shooting happened in front of the R Place Tavern on Boylston Avenue around 2:30 a.m., said Det. Jeff Kappel. What began as a fight among four people ended up with one man -- who police say was also drunk -- shooting at a man he believed was beating up his friends.
However, the victim didn't display any signs of being shot even after police arrived to break up the fight. Witnesses had heard the shot but assumed the man had fired the gun into the air, Kappel said.
It wasn't until the man was back at the police station to answer to assault allegations that he began complaining of pain in his back. Officers checked and, lo and behold, the man had a gunshot wound in his back. He was taken to Harborview Medical Center but was expected to recover, Kappel said.
The man who fired the gun was booked into the King County Jail for investigation of assault.
