Police: Men try to force way into sleeping woman's apartment
SEATTLE -- "Let us in. You're living in our neighborhood. You think you get a pass?"
Those were the words a frightened South Seattle resident heard coming through her apartment door early Sunday morning before the three strange men standing outside started breaking out the lights, according to the Seattle Police Department.
The victim was sleeping in her apartment in the 8700 block of Rainier Avenue South around 4 a.m. when she heard knocking at her door.
According to the police report for the incident, she got up to see who it was, and a man outside said, "Let us in."
The peephole was covered, and the victim didn't open the door.
According to the report, that's when another man said, "[Expletive], let us in. You're living in our neighborhood. You think you get a pass?"
The victim ran back to her bedroom to call 911 and heard the men trying to open her window before breaking out the two lights outside her apartment, plunging the area into darkness, according the report.
The men left a few minutes later.
The victim, who moved to the neighborhood in July, told officers a group of men harassed her as she walked down Rainier Avenue a few days earlier. She said the men followed her while yelling and throwing water.
The victim's apartment complex is gated and requires a key card for entry. Officers were able to get surveillance footage of the incident from the apartment complex.
A description of the three men was not available.
So why is there no description if they have them on surveillance? Â why would they not want the public knowing who to look out for?
@FBrumfield Not important. You really think they will spend any time on this? This is why I call 911 "Dial a Prayer". Did you notice they just "forgot" to mention how long it took from the time she called till the Police got there?
I hope they catch these thugs - and I hope she buys herself a gun and learns to use it. Sometimes just the threat of a gun works for these fleabags and sometimes the sound of a dog - it's amazing. Of course, if they really want to come in, they will and that's when the real gun gets used. Screw these types of people - they threaten and they break in, gone, poof. It's time we defended ourselves against these types.
Time to move. Or buy a gun.

@Wildstar ...I have a good idea, it's called self-defense. As a nation, we should delare war on these zombies and put them where they belong.
 @TreeTopFlyer  @Wildstar They belong in a grave!
Get out while you still can.
This same thing happened to me when I was living in Renton several years ago. Three men, pounding on the door, claiming they were police, at first, and then yelling for me to let them in (and explicitly telling me what they wanted to do me). They also tried to get in the window. The police did NOTHING! Didn't even take a report. I broke my lease and moved out 4 days later.
@Sonolodo Law enforcement has no obligation to protect you per the Supreme Court of the US, unless a special duty relationship has been established.
No description. Rainier Ave. Hmm. Come on Komo. This lady, please leave this ghetto. Many nice places to live in Seattle, this area is not one of them.
@STK Bigot! I live in Rainier Valley and be assured that there are nice places there, just as there are Crappy ones in any major city
@AL B  @STK I do too! My house is like living in the country, with no crime, even though I'm within one mile of some of the recent badness. Crime can happen anywhere, at any time.
Something missing here. Â Sounds like this woman is perhaps some highly-visible freako-weirdo transplant from Capitol Hill...??
@Biggg Donnn Yeah why is it alot of ( NOT ALL ) ghetto black people and rural rednecks dont like anything different? Is it because both tend to be lower intelligence? I like variety - I dont think everyone should look the same... But I have a high IQ.
@Andy Pollow  @Biggg Donnn From the stereo typing you are doing I wonder about that I.Q.
@Biggg Donnn Blaming the victim? That's what sounds wrong here.
@Biggg Donnn Something's missing? Maybe it's your brain.
@Biggg Donnn Sounds like? What "sounds" did you take that from? Even if she was highly visible in the manner in which you describe, why does that mean anything? Does the "quality" of the victim make a crime lesser or greater?
@Nic Stevens Well, why would one person be targeted as "Not Belonging" in the neighborhood, unless there was some unusual characteristc(s) involved.  Don't think we got the whole story on this one...
The best way to avoid something like this is to live where things like this are so statistically small they usually don't happen. You can simply drive through that area and know it's not somewhere a "single" woman without a gun, high capacity magazine, ninja skills, la femme nikita alter ego, or commonsense "should" live. Even a poor woman has internet access at the library to check apartment ratings, crime reports, and google the address/neighborhood. And there's something called public transport to get you away from the urban decay.
Â
Sure--we all have to "make a stand", but what we "should" do and what we "do" do, are often two different things. Keeping her doors and windows locked is good, sturdy commonsense. Now she needs to "make a stand" and tell her landlord she'd breaking her lease.
@chandler Some of us cannot afford to live where we'd like to.
@Sonolodo @chandler Abosolutely, she is living in a cheaper area. I admire her courage she probably works in a lower wage job and doesn't want to depend on others.
@Iarehere  @Sonolodo  @chandler That's a condescending generalization. Maybe she was tired of getting run over by strollers in Wallingford.
@Iarehere  @Sonolodo  @chandler And the problem is, the more people just try to "move away" from crime, the more it spreads. You can't stop evil by running away from it, it just follows you. You have to stand against it. I have nothing bad to say about anybody who does whatever they feel they have to in order to protect themselves and their family.....for me, I choose to fight evil. Where I live is my HOME....I will not be uprooted because some thug wants to threaten me or mine.
Â
"All it takes for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
Wow! Those are some real dirtbags there! But considering the area, I guess I shouldn't be surprised.
She needs to get some training and a CPL. That is one rough area.
No more hugs for these scumbags. Defense attorneys and liberal college professers be darned...
Let those mothereffers try to do this at my house... they'd be greeted with my gun in one hand and my middle finger on the other.
@Tattooed_Angel Gun control is using both hands.
@Tattooed_Angel  Use both hands please if your gonna shoot then flip them off later. I don't want you to miss.
@lakeunion If they continued to try to break into my house, then I'd shoot. I don't answer the door to anyone I don't know, however I do have a window right by the front door. If they see my gun and want to take their chances at still breaking in, let them.
"early Sunday morning" Almost a week ago and we are just now seeing a story on it?
@DarkParty It takes a decent chunk of time for police reports to be written, approved and properly redacted before SPD releases them to the public. KOMO is bringing them to you as fresh as possible.
@MichaelHarthorne @DarkParty What about the breaking news stuff... (LOL)
@DarkParty ...and still no description of the 3 men. Seems they may want to get the word out before something worse happens.
"The victim's apartment is gated and requires a key card for entry"    Yeah this place doesn't sound to secure if they made it to her door or her neighbors are the ones responsible.  She needs a better place to live.
@lakeunion Problem with places like this is often someone will allow someone in through the gate with a easily crafted story of "I'm just going to visit a friend", etc. Social engineering is the downfall of even the most secure places and systems.
@dg54321  @lakeunion People can jump over fences too. The fence on that apartment is not that tall.Â
@chandler  @lakeview  @lakeunion Yup....any security measure can be subverted with determination and time, offset by skill. The real problem is these gated communities or alarm systems, etc, give people a false sense of security and therefore they don't feel they need to take measures for personal protection. The nicest house in the nicest neighborhood is the likeliest target for the most determined criminals. In the end, you have a choice. To cower and hope for the best, or to defend your home and self with all necessary force.
@lakeview  @dg54321  @lakeunion I was going to say that too. Gated entrances are laughable.
@dg54321 @lakeunion Or tailgate behind someone opening the gate. I've seen that a few times.
@dg54321  Some people are wired different then other people. Her personal space and life has been violated and her fear is real to her and this type of situation makes many people move. Not everyone wants to own a shotgun (for many reasons) to settle their differences. When this happens to people it stays with them and mentally controls them for a while. it's easy to say just take a stand and defend yourself..........but for people who truly are very very scared it's not that easy.
@lakeunion  @robmo One shouldn't ever have to live in fear no matter where you are. Thugs like this are cowards, preying on the weak and defenseless. I will not run from evil, because it just follows you wherever you go. You have to make a stand and what better place than the home. She needs to get the means to defend herself and show them she will not be scared from her home should they come calling again.
@robmo  @dg54321      Oh I totally agree but some buildings are easier to tailgate then others. Bottom line is her sense of security is now violated and she will live in fear in her current building for some time.
@lakeunion It's the ghetto. And her building is across the street from a park. Not a good combination.Â
@lakeview But Geraldines Counter is right down the street...........great food.
Geraldine's Counter is about 2 and half miles north, and over rated.
@lakeview  Your right I think I clicked 4800 block on the map
 @lakeunion I wouldn't say it's that close. That's like 40 blocks away
@lakeview  @lakeunion So of course this is her fault and she should expect this right? You are always on here making excuses for criminals and trying to make it sound like sane people should let the city go to pot.Â
@NW-Economist Actually, she should expect that while living there.. she should also be prepared for dealing with it while living there..
She should probably go to the next gun buyback, and get a decent shotgun for a really good price..LOL...
@NW-Economist You're obviously just here to argue. Honestly, I have no idea how you could think I was blaming this woman by pointing out that she lives in the ghetto. I have no interest in debating someone who clearly is all torn up inside and angry at the world.Â
@lakeview You can seriously say that after typing this? " I don't know what this guy is talking about, but I basically ignore him. Only an idiot would assume that I was blaming her. It's laughable really. "
@NW-Economist I don't know what your problem is, but you need to calm down and try not being a total jerk to people here.
@lakeview ROFL. Lets look at what you said:
Â
"It's the ghetto. And her building is across the street from a park. Not a good combination. "
Â
You make it sound like she should expect this for living there. Here's a hint, we shouldn't tolerate crime anywhere. Take your "hugs for thugs" mentality somewhere else.Â
@lakeunion  @NW-Economist I don't know what this guy is talking about, but I basically ignore him. Only an idiot would assume that I was blaming her. It's laughable really.Â
@NW-Economist You can take names out of the chain too.....just for info.
@lakeunion  @lakeview  @NW Take a close look, I was directly replying to lakeview in the chain, not you.Â
Â
But now that you mention it, here's what would make her life easier, putting a shotgun in her hand to the next time guys try to rape/kill her she just blows them away and sleeps soundly afterward.Â
@NW-Economist  @lakeview @NW Economist   Please point out where I said this was her fault? I NEVER make excuses for criminals. With that being said her personal safety is at stake. She is a single female who now will never want to walk around at night or will wonder what was that sound I just heard while trying to sleep? What do you think will make fer live easier? Staying there or moving to a place where she feels much safer?  The fear sometimes does more damage then anything else.
