Police: Resident's quick dialing foils armed intruder
SEATTLE -- A resident's quick thinking, and quick dialing, foiled the gunman who allegedly took him and another resident hostage in their South Seattle home early Sunday.
According to the Seattle Police Department, the 21-year-old suspect entered the house in the 4100 block of 15th Avenue South through a kitchen window around 4 a.m. while the victims were sleeping.
While the suspect threatened one victim with a gun and forced him to get on the floor, the other victim hid in a back room and dialed 911, leaving the line open, according to police.
According to police, the suspect found the other victim and forced him to the floor, but his open line to 911 brought officers to the house, where they knocked down the door.
The suspect sent one of the victims to the door to tell officers everything was OK, according to police. But, the victim's performance wasn't convincing, and officers figured out there was an armed man in the house.
Officers set up containment and convinced the suspect to let the other victim go. Once both victims were out of the house, officers entered and found the suspect hiding in the bathroom, according to police.
He was arrested and booked into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
Wow, scary. Just imagine this happening at your home. I shudder just thinking about it and what my reaction would be. Diversity is quickly becoming a nightmare, as many people whom experienceit first hand know.
"...hiding in the bathroom." Â
The sophistication of the criminal element is boundless.
I think they did the appropriate thing, since they weren't able to defend themselves.. calling 911, and leaving the line open...
What they need to do next, is get window alarms... and a gun or three... so they can be strategically placed around the house for the just in case you aren't in the bedroom. Keep one in the refrigerator, in the centerpiece of the table... under the center cushion of the couch.. just anywhere that you might be when needed....
</sarcasm>
Way to go SPD! Taking down garbage like this makes people feel safer, making it less likely that they will think they need to buy guns they don't know how to use. Keep up the good work, SPD.Â
@marsneedswomen You don't have a gun?  Really?  Say, where do you live?
@CommonCriminal ROTFLMAO!  Love the name.  The one you should really ask that question of is the resident Monkey.  You can tell Bozo by his icon.
@CommonCriminal
Heh, nice try. I'm not anti-gun, but I do believe that a civilized society needs a reliable, trustworthy, non-militarized police force (Blackstone). That SPD took the bad guys down is a sign that we might be moving toward a town where I can use my Rem 1100 mostly for clay pigeons instead of home defense.
@NW-Economist
While there are innumerable examples that support your statement, it's still a bit pessimistic. For things to get better we gotta start somewhere. This particular situation, what the SPD did, is a start. We should encourage them to keep it up.
@marsneedswomen @CommonCriminalWHy do you keep saying that they "took him down?" The criminal was only arrested, and given king county courts will most likely be released in a few days so he can go back and "finish the job."
@marsneedswomen Hey sombody here has a sense of humor anyway.  I was rolling on the floor when I saw that post!
@marsneedswomen
Thanks for the laugh! Sure needed one today!

@Thepriest Owning guns may be the best tax break we can make for ourselves.
@RandomShiz2Â @Thepriest Thanks. I always like to stir the pot. Why did my comment get taken down anyways?
@RandomShiz2 @Thepriest Damn, when you guys put it that way it sounds patriotic!  F'in A!  I think I'll go down to the gun shop tomorrow!  Thanks guys!  :)
@RandomShiz2Â @Thepriest And just think, the intruder could have grabbed their gun while they were sleeping... No, the gun is not your best self defense. Statistically it works out worse for you.
@DarkParty @the tide @RandomShiz2 @Thepriest I totally agree. They just got lucky that the cops were able to show up in time.Must be by the doughnut shop.
@the tide @RandomShiz2 @Thepriest Letsee, putting myself at the mercy of an invader of my home, or protecting myself and those under my care. Does it always work? No, but I'd rather have a fighting chance rather than no chance at all.
@the tide
Yep, statistically. And people who drive cars are more likely to be involved in automobile accidents than people who don't drive cars. And people who clean roofs are more likely to fall off roofs than people who don't clean roofs. So what's your point?
@the tide
Statistically speaking, a person is 97%% more likely to hide behind statistics than they are to seek out the truth...
@the tide @RandomShiz2 @Thepriest The stats are skewed, it only includes robberies where the intruder was shot by the victim, not those where the intruder was scared off.
@the tide You are so pull of it I need to get my boots on.
@the tide @RandomShiz2 @Thepriest I would rather take the chance and have my guns, thanks!
I hope they add some more charges onto his warrant -- robbery is not enough. If I had my way, he 'd be charged with kidnapping and whatever else they can throw at that low life scum.Â
It is so hard to say what one would do as a victim in that situation. Not everyone has a gun (or can access it quickly for protection) or has the strength/skill to overtake a predator. Whatever they did was right for them at that time because they got out alive and the POS was arrested.
I am glad the situation was resolved with no one getting hurt, but these people are VERY VERY lucky the intruder wasn't in a murderin mood. I personally choose to not take a chance like that. iDial 1911
@acmariner99 1911?
@the tide It's a pistol, a damn good one actually!
@TheChosenÂ
Yep.
@acmariner99
THAT is a matter of opinion. I don't care what brand 1911 it is - if it get the rounds on-target each and every time, that is all that counts.Â
@TheChosen @the tide It's a Kimber - so it is even better :)
@the tide @acmariner99 A 45 of an excellent variety.......
@the tide @acmariner99 You have no clue about guns do you? 1911 is a very popular style of pistol.
@DarkParty the tide has gone out to sea.....
Wow right by the golf course huh? I like that part of Beacon Hill...what a shame.Â
I guess the bathroom wasn't such a good place to hide for either of those using it. Glad they caught the clown and I hope they find a nice deep hole to drop him into.Â
This is absurd, a true surrender mentality. Call 911 and in the meantime comply with armed intruder, do anything they ask you to and beg them not to hurt you?! These idiots were lucky the guy didn't kill them, he could have found the phone, saw it was on and then gotten very angry. Or he could just be drugged out of his mind and felt like killing them for any random reason.Â
Newsflash, for every case like this there are many cases where the armed robber doesn't happen to be in a mood to allow the people to survive. Arm yourself and if someone breaks into your home make sure they are stopped from hurting you or anyone else, permanently.Â
@NW-Economist So, if I arm myself and get attacked in my kitchen do I tell the intruder to wait one while I get my gun from my bedroom? You called the victims âidiotsâ. Really? They are alive, the only thing sad is that the intruder is. With his lack of brains eventually he will run into the guy like you with his pistol loaded, and ready to fire. At that time I will give you a thumbs up.Â
@Valerie McCrumb Merkes @NW-EconomistPerhaps idiot was too strong a word, but consider this: is there a law that says you can't carry in your kitchen? I open carry every public place I go to and on my own property as well, it's the law of this state to allow that.Â
In the end, this is about logic and statistics. It's not about what's fair or what's "morally right," it's about whether you survive or you don't.Â
@NW-Economist NEWs flash, he broke in while they were alseep. They would have been arming the robber.
@the tide @NW-EconomistNarrow minded? When I said "Arm yourself" I was referring to more than just a firearm. Truly arming yourself has to do with training and other things besides a firearm.Â
Good accessories to firearms include: dogs, alarms with door/window/glassbreak sensors, etc. Also, You have to be tactical about your living arrangements. Have several closed doors between you and the point of entry, if you sleep in a room with windows keep the curtains CLOSED so criminals can't see in, if you have a two or three story building sleep in a room at the top and the furthest in walking distance from point of entry, etc.Â
Or you can just chance it, the world  is full of people who "select out." It's called natural selection.Â
@Jalharad @NW-Economist @the tide Baseball bat would have been an extremely poor choice of weapon in this scenario.
@NW-Economist @the tide There are weapons other then firearms as well. A baseball bat works just as well. I agree with you though, YOU are responsible for your safety, nobody else can do it for you.
@the tide @NW-Economist One of them had time to call 911, That was plenty of time to arm himself.
@DarkParty <GRIN>  Good one, the perfect stuff for a Liberal to use.
@TheChosen That's what Velcro is for.
@DarkParty Some of these guy's don't have a clue do they?  They are so anti-gun that they deny all reason, logic and facts.  I wonder how they can even tie their shoes with so few brain cells. Â
@NW-Economist  Calling the victims of an armed home invasion at 4am that turned into a hostage situation idiots huh?
Something is seriously wrong with you.Â
@lakeview @NW-EconomistWould you have preferred Darwin award candidates instead? You have to take responsibility for your own safety, the courts have ruled over and over that the police cannot be sued for failing to protect you. People who put themselves at the mercy of dangerous, violent criminals are idiots.Â
@the tideTypical sheep, you are basically just sucking up valuable O2 until some violent criminal decides to stop you. You need to take responsibility for your own protection. The police cannot help you.
This video shows the difference between a cellphone and a firearm. Educate yourself. You can call the police, but chances are they won't get there until the intruder has done whatever they feel like doing. You want to put yourself at the mercy of some thug? Go ahead. But don't you dare do anything or advocate any laws to make it harder for the rest of us to defend ourselves. I'll ignore your ignorant insult because paranoia is paranoia until something bad finally happens to the person doing the labeling. Like all libtards you'll change your tune when crime finally happens to you.Â

@NW-Economist Did he say he expects people to be safe, etc? Like most gunnuts, you're sounding delusional in your paranoia. Someone in that family was armed with cell phone - what I also grab when I suspect problems. If the guy who breaks in get's my cell phone then I doubt he'll kill me with it. If he however sees a gun you can expect a shoot out because the violence just escalated. This family is safer with the cell phone than the gun. And btw, if you get in a shoot out with a thug - there's no stats that say you're more likely to win.
@lakeview @NW-EconomistIf you live in South Seattle you should be ready for this. There are many cheap alarm systems, and un-monitored ones that just make noise locally are dirty-cheap.
There's something wrong with you if you think people should expect to be safe anywhere they want without taking any precautions and that there are no evil people out there.Â
@NW-Economist @lakeview People in their homes at 4am sleeping are not "idiots" when someone breaks in and holds them at gunpoint. Â
Something is seriously wrong with you.Â
@NW-Economist It almost sounds like you're angry that this was resolved without anybody getting shot.
@Sutekh @NW-EconomistThe fact that it doesn't bother you that this lowlife scum will be feeding from the public teat in jail proves you are probably a taker who doesn't contribute tax dollars. It would be nice if the jails were only funded by people who wanted to be soft on criminals, unfortunately, most of those people don't pay taxes.Â
@Sutekh @NW-EconomistAwesome! Will you please pay for everything then? Please write a check to King County to cover this guy's processing costs and jail time The rest of us who don't want to throw our money away on violent thugs would rather not.Â
@NW-Economist"The fact that it doesn't bother you that this lowlife scum will be feeding from the public teat in jail proves you are probably a taker who doesn't contribute tax dollars."
Not a single word of this is true.
@Jalharad @NW-EconomistCan you please point out where any political party name appears in any of the comments I wrote on this article?
Get off the assumption wagon.Â
@NW-Economist I would disagree with you. Those that pay taxes aren't all Republican. I pay my taxes, and I am not a Republican. Get off the "entitlement" bandwagon.
@NW-Economist And just what would you do against someone armed when you aren't???? Throw wads of toilet paper at them. Get a life fool.
@LongBeachBum RIF! Read his last sentence!
@DarkParty @LongBeachBumMy guess is LongBeachBum is too busy post I-502 to read full paragraphs.Â
Please read story of Channon Christiansen and Chris Newsom some law abiding citizens will then arm and be prepared. Murderers are continually released to victimize more citizens. Cops are minutes away when seconds are all the victim has. Only hits count cripple your criminal today.
@NW-Economist  I concur good doctor... I concur!
