Police: Sailor terrorizes woman, threatens to 'blow her head off'
PORT ORCHARD, Wash. - A 31-year-old Navy sailor was arrested early Friday after he kicked in the door to a 70-year-old woman's home and yelled at her to start praying because he was going to "blow her head off," police reports say.
The drama unfolded at about 2 a.m. Friday when police and deputies received a 911 call from someone in the neighborhood who said he heard screaming outside near his home.
Officers arrived at the scene, in the 3300 block of Horstman Road, and heard someone yelling loudly in an angry tone inside a residence there. A few moments later a man walked out of the house.
As deputies approached and questioned the man, other officers went into the home and saw that the front door had been kicked in with such force that it was ripped loose from the hinges and the door frame was splintered.
Inside they found a 70-year-old woman cowering in a back bedroom. After they identified themselves to her as police officers she said in a quivering voice, "Thank God you're here. There's a strange man in my house. He just broke in."
She said she had been sleeping when she heard a loud bang then saw the shadowy figure of a man who yelled, "Start praying. I'm going to blow your head off."
The woman said she was terrified because she lives alone, but she could not get to her phone because it was in the kitchen. She said she actually did start praying because she thought the man was going to kill her.
Meanwhile, deputies were interviewing the man outside, who told them he was doing a "military exercise."
According to the deputies' report, the man was obviously intoxicated and admitted he had drunk a "couple of Jäger bombs." When asked if he normally drank before he went through a military exercise, he said "no." He then started crying and said he had really screwed up, according to police reports.
He denied kicking in the door and threatening the woman.
The man was then placed under arrest and taken to Kitsap County jail, where he was booked for investigation of residential burglary. No weapons were found on him.
He was later identified as Matthew Clark, 31, an active-duty sailor assigned to Naval Base Kitsap. Bail was set at $50,000.

WOW...We are thinking of what is happening with this guy! What about the  70 year old Lady who was minding her own business, but now is probably gonna have PTSD and she didn't sign up for this....this has to stop ...please help these young men and women because innocent people are being HURT!
Matt Clark is actually a very good friend of mine. Obviously this is still under investigation but this is not his character. He is going through a very nasty divorce. His wife had been cheating one him with 5 guys. He has not ever been in any trouble with anything like this, he is a model sailor. He has two lovely daughters and though this is a tragedy and my heart goes out to the woman for sure. There was another sailor involved and so the whole story will come out. Komo 4 really needs to investigate things a little deeper before they make stories. This isn't the first time this news outlet has jumped the gun before the full story came out.
I suggest rethinking your friendship with this guy. In my experience, alcohol brings out the true nature of people. What you've been seeing is a facade. Or you have seen his true side and convinced yourself that he's an OK guy because you're interested in him for more than friendship.
He's toast either way. I've been through nasty divorces too, but never wigged out because of it. There is no excuse for his behavior though...we reap what we sow.
doors and windows should be unbreakable, to save our lives they should be breakable for 911 boy r we screwed. hummm i would like a computer that shows any body in or on my property so i dont have too do a house cheek when i get home, i can look on a computer and see all life forms... is that really too much to ask -- have? it dosent stop just cuz gates has a talking house. ect...
@maggie112  Layers of protection is the key...Early Warning Systems and strengthing your windows and doors. Costco has a pretty good surveillance system available too. I have one. I also have firearms immediately available. May the Lord have mercy on the zombie that decides to target my home. Â
@maggie112 You can get nanny cams, cameras to monitor anywhere you want and hook them up to your computer to give you exactly what you're asking.
Found his FB page...he is a single dad. 31 years old, old enough to know better for these shenanigans. He is still in jail, bond is at 75k and charged as a felony. He is on what appears to be shore duty, which will probably make the punishment worse (can't make him be 'grounded' to the boat, now)Â
I live on the Kitsap Peninsula. We get a few of these clowns every now and then, but for the most part, a lot of guys are respectable.Â
@brandtinwa He has children but isn't a single dad. He is one of the respectable guys. He was just in the wrong situation at the wrong time. His personal life in in shambles, and it must be noted there was another person involved with this, once this other sailor is found the whole story will come to light.Â
@BR2364 @brandtinwa I doubt that will be any relief to the woman he terrorized.
@brandtinwa Single dad, huh? Wonder what happens at home when he ties one on? Nice
Jagerbombs- yum but for some reason they make some people angry. To bad this guys screwed up his career for a night out on the town. I hope the old lady is all right and doesn't have any health problems from this, and I hope the a$$hat pays for having her door fixed.Â
Sailor or not, he's lucky that woman didn't have a gun to blow his head off.Â
Thank you for your service. Oh wait, I take that back. Have fun in jail, butthead.
Yep, he "really screwed up" alright! This hunt-master will be hunting inside a 6 x 9 for a while.
Ah the wonderful affects of Jägermeister. That poor woman, how horrifying! I was so worried the story was going to say they'd found her beaten or worse. Thankfully she was not physically hurt.
Ahhhhh...another fine example of esprit de corps, personal pride and integrity within our military ranks. No wonder we're losing the friggin war. This zombie will become a civilian in less than 30 days.  Â
@TreeTopFlyer You make it sound like all military personnel are like this. As a veteran, and a mom of a Marine, I am highly offended at your offhand comment of our brave military people. Just because you chose not to serve, or couldn't hack it in the military whichever the case may be, doesn't mean there are not honorable people in the military! Get a life!!!
@traceywo @TreeTopFlyer I don't "make it sound" like anything other than how you spin my (above) sarcastic remark. I'm a Veteran and served honorably and responsibly and I honor those who serve in the same manner today. However, THIS zombie does not represent the honorable. Chill out.Â
@TreeTopFlyer You need to get a life. How dare you make an offhanded comment. It is easy for you to sit behind your computer and judge, but you do not know him personally. You haven't walked in his shoes. Also this story does state there is another sailor involved. But due to the lack of police work he is not in custody.Â
@BR2364 @TreeTopFlyer Trust me, I HAVE a life. You're right though, I haven't walked in this zombie's shoes.Â
@TreeTopFlyer In every war there has been military personnel that screw up but I would not equate that to the winning or losing of the war. We are in a non winnable war in Afghanistan since there is no objective to win. We keep sending our military personnel to a killing zone with limited engagement scenarios. The only way to win in Afghanistan is to make it our 51st state which no politician will want and neither our citizens. We did not learn this in Vietnam and we are not learning it in Afghanistan. There is no amount of humanitarian aid we can supply to win these people over to a democratic process with equality between all. This is not a failure of the military personnel on the ground. It is a direct failure of the politicians that send or keep our military in the fight when it can not be won.
@Beam_Me_Up @TreeTopFlyer You are sooooo right. There are zombies in the ranks though, like this one, that certainly do not promote honor and only degrade the integrity of our military machine. It's a damned shame and it disgusts me when I learn about behavior such as this. Thanks for your comment.
Lucky he did not kick in my front door. He would look like swiss cheese right now.
This dumb jacka*** is going to lose his military stripes and status now. I hope they kick him out. What a horrendous and sick "military joke/exercise" to play on someone. How about a military exercise where he comes to someone's house and gets punched in the face! Psycho Idiot, this kind of behavior is not acceptable! I wonder what prompted him to do that?
@keepthepeace28 The question is did he? The story does not disclose there was another sailor involved who was the one actually behind all of these actions. He was in the wrong place at the wrong time and his personal life is in shambles due to a cheating wife and a nasty divorce/custody battle. My heart goes out to the woman.
@keepthepeace28Â I believe it was the Jagermeister!
How traumatizing for the woman, but also what a stupid thing to do to ruin your career!!!!Â
Sounds like the perfect way to ruin a Navy career. Next stop: dishonorable discharge.
@dg54321: Â After a few years at hard labor!
Time to outlaw the U.S. Navy?
@Tim Lane lol Nah we've had these kinds of problems for decades over here on the side of the pond. Usually the sailors and marines stick to picking on us guys and we end up having to stomp the sh^t out of them. Use to have some pretty good bar fights over here but most all the good bars got closed down because of the fighting.
@Blindman @Tim Lane Yeah, I'd like to see you "stomp the sh^t out of them". Probably more like the other way around.
yes he screwed up big time, Navy is under sizing he voluntered himself, goodbye drunken master!!
31 years old, apparently a fool for life. pls navy do the right thing.
@mike sorlie quite the opposite actually.
Too bad they dont still keelhaul these guys... Poor lady! Â
he should be hung by his heels with rusty hay hooks from a very tall building, swinging in the wind,  so he can see how that woman felt
@izwideopen I'm sure he feels worse than the woman felt, if only you knew. Jackass
