Police: Suspect runs across I-5 in attempt to escape capture
SEATTLE -- A 20-year-old with multiple warrants out for his arrest ran across I-5 early Thursday in an attempt to avoid arrest, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to police, Gang Unit detectives spotted the suspect in the passenger seat of a Volvo station wagon shortly after midnight and pulled the car over near the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and South Ryan Way.
As soon as the Volvo stopped, the suspect got out and ran off, cutting westbound across the freeway and entering a nearby wooded area, according to police.
The detectives, as well as SPD officers, K-9 units, Tukwila Police officers and Guardian One gave chase, eventually locating the suspect in the woods near a railroad yard south of the Boeing Access Road.
The suspect was booked into King County Jail for his outstanding warrants.
"Suspect runs across I-5 in attempt to escape capture" ... sounds like a bright guy. Â He's lucky he didn't have bigger problems than the prospect of arrest.
I had something similar happen to me years ago when driving thru Seattle in the far left lane heading to the Oregon coast â a guy ran across all lanes and somehow everyone missed him.I had no time to react â didnât even get my foot off the accelerator â and I will never forget that extremely foolish grin on his face as my truck bumper almost got the heel of his left footâ¦.That would have been some sight for my 10 YO son to see if I had hit himâ¦.. Awhole!
What were the warrants?  I would really like to know what they were and why it was so important to risk your life to not deal with them.Â
Should have been hit...
Damn, he made! That totally could have been a problem easily solved!
What? He didn't get hit? That's a first!
Sure hope the K9 had some time to sharpen its teeth and "practice" apprehending bad guys.Â
Modern day Frogger
Que the music! LOL!
I give kudo's to the SPD for getting this guy. Maybe one day Seattlites will respect the SPD for what they do and not continually kick them. And now that Seattle had thier big gun turn-in day, its funny how crime appears to be going up.Â
@Busyhands - a few 'bad apples' gives everbody else who is doing the right thing a black eye, it seems. Happens with any group, people are quick with the rocks, the hanging noose and everything on the group - not the perp it seems. I've always hated that too but it's a 'fact of life' - :( Â
G Unit!
Nice job, run across I-5 (I assume using Boeing Access Road--not literally I-5) and go into the woods south of Boeing Access Road...right into the Seattle Police Firing Range.
Although I am left curious as to what his multiple warrants are for, and the nature of his "perpatism".
Probably too much ask for follow up to the story in the coming days....
Upgraded from Subaru's!
All the thugs be drivin Volvo wagons these days!
@aintno1special Guess the 70s Olds are all broken down finally......
@dg54321 Probably too expensive for this hoodlum. Multiple warrants would mean to me he wasn't a very successful thug!
Where the hell is "Westbound I-5?"Â I-5 runs N-S
@bagsofdirt I think they mean he went "westbound across" the highway.
@bagsofdirt Of course it does. Thanks for pointing out my error. The story has been corrected.
@MichaelHarthorne @bagsofdirtWow kudos to Komo and Micheal for handling the correction so well. Although I don't always agree with Komo's reporting, Komo manages the best commenting forum. We all get to rant and rave with little censorship.Â
@aintno1special @Sam Maley @MichaelHarthorne @bagsofdirt It's really up to the reporters how much we interact in the comments. I just happen to like answering questions and weighing in on what you fine people are talking about.
@Sam Maley @MichaelHarthorne @bagsofdirt I've noticed a lot of responses back as of late from KOMO and more notably Mr. Harthorne (maybe he makes more mistakes? Kidding!!) But I too appreciate their "involvement" as of late.
@Sam Maley @MichaelHarthorne @bagsofdirt Thanks. We aim to please.
