Police: Fishy smelling watch thief arrested in homeless camp

SEATTLE -- The toothless, fishy smelling man who claimed he was a wealthy fisherman before allegedly stealing a $45,000 Rolex from a downtown Seattle jewelery store last month was arrested Wednesday at a homeless camp in Shoreline.
According to the Seattle Police Department, the man walked into a Ben Bridge Jewelers Jan. 18 and chatted up employees, explaining that he was a wealthy fisherman, before asking to try on the expensive watch.
As soon as the watch was on his wrist, the man yelled "See ya!" and ran out the door, according to police. The employees and homeless man who gave chase lost him in a nearby clothing store.
Tips from the community and information gathered during the investigation led detectives to a witness who claimed the man bragged about the robbery and showed him the watch, according to police.
Officers found the man at Tent City in Shoreline Wednesday and booked him into King County Jail for investigation of robbery.
Surveillance footage of the alleged robber taken Jan. 18 at a Ben Bridge Jewelers in downtown Seattle.
$45,000 Rolex? Now there's an item that won't stand out like a sore thumb on ebay or Craigs list. No, not at all. And who in the the hell buys watches that expensive anyways? Oh wait..yes..professional basketball players. Ben Bridge must have brought some in in anticipation of our new Sonics team showing up.
Kudos to the homeless man who tried to help chase down the thief. Even though they didn't catch him that day, I really hope they thanked him and maybe bought him a sandwich for trying to help.
Gosh, we're always told homeless camps are full of great people just down on their luck! You mean, there are drug abusers, thieves and liars in these camps? You mean...these camps are actually filled with people who don't try, and instead want things given to them? How surprising!

What homeless man?Â
@lakeview probably the same homeless man who robbed them....the people at the store don't seem to be very bright
I'm sorry but they need to hire someone with at least an ounce of common sense when handling expensive merchandise. A person who runs a fish business doesn't smell of fish. Are you kidding?Â
Well...
Â
The really big news here is that KOMO has acknowledged that there are indeed criminals (at least one) living in Tent City. Â
Â
Their story line for years has been that Tent City is full of nice guys with nothing to hide who just happened to lose their jobs and are now willing to live in parking lots while they commute to their new jobs.

@elizamae If you hate Komo so much why dont you go to Kiro instead? Silly. Or start your own news buiseness.
yep, just another good fella down on his luck....getting tired of the appollogists for the homeless "cities" that are forced into our neighborhoods. "this could be you with one turn of bad luck"
nice watch... PEACE!
But I've been told over and over that Tent City is nothing but perfect little angels who are down on their luck. How can this be?
Nobody with real wealth says, "I'm wealthy"......that would have raised my sus. levels instantly.
But did they recover the watch?
