Trained boxer turns out to be bad target for mugger
SEATTLE -- An unarmed man tried to mug a trained boxer last Wednesday outside a Capitol Hill boxing gym, according to the Seattle Police Department. It didn't go well for the alleged mugger.
According to the police report for the incident, the victim was about to enter Seattle Boxing Studio around 10:30 a.m. when the suspect grabbed his gym bag and refused to let go.
After a struggle over the bag, the suspect let go in order to lunge at the victim, according to the report. So, the victim punched the suspect in the mouth, knocking him to the ground.
The suspect got back up and started throwing punches at the victim, who was able to avoid every one of them, according to the report.
Eventually the suspect gave up and walked away. At this point the suspect made his second mistake of the morning (the first being to attack a boxer, obviously).
The suspect headed directly toward the nearby Seattle Police Department East Precinct, so the victim and a Seattle Boxing Studio instructor were able to follow him and point him out to an officer sitting in a patrol car outside the precinct.
The officer caught up with the suspect in the 1200 block of East Olive Street and arrested him.
The victim suffered a possibly broken hand when he punched the suspect in the face.
This reminds me of a story about a year or two ago and I think in Federal Way. This guy breaks into an apartment by climbing up to the second story balcony. The occupants wake up and confront the burglar. Too bad the occupant was a martial arts expert and proceeded to kick this guy's ass. He eventually gets knocked over the balcony and down to the ground. He gets up and runs away.
what the hell... let the suspect walk way.. BS kick that SOB's arse into the ground...some more... if you ask me he got off easy!
Too bad the guy got up and begged/pleaded for a further beating.Â
Judge, an extra year in lockup for this fool for being stupid please. Maybe some extra slippery soap too.
Show us the mugshot!
Best story I've seen all day. This is why I never get into a drunken fight. You never know who is going to be able to kick your ass...even if you're way bigger than them. The theif is an idiot though, lolÂ
Location , Location , Location. I'd say that picking victims near a boxing gym is a bad idea. WHAMMO !!!
I would have paid to see that one.
i was waiting to see if he tried to mug a cop
Thanks now i have a dumb criminal story to tell friends but are we starting to sound like the state of florida Hope not
The fool must have wanted three hots and a cot. It's been chilly out.
He's lucky he didn't decide to hang out around a gun range.
And these are the criminals that activists are so worried won't be given milk and cookies before bed by the "oppressive system"? Most (not all) of the people in jail are there because they really, really belong there. Case in point here....Â
"Eventually the suspect gave up and walked away.' I would think one would want to make a slightly hastier escape after getting their butt kicked.
Hence the reason to learn self defense. That's a satisfying story!
The mugger is sitting down with an ambulance chasing lawyer crafting a bodily injury lawsuit for "Assault with a Deadly Weapon" against the Boxer.
What a maroon!
@Nic Stevens What the heck is a "maroon"?

@CIAassassin Wait wait, you father watched bugs bunny as a kid, and you think those of us who did are old? I thought you were a long time practitioner of martial arts.. define long time please?
@johnbe A "maroon' is an idiot who has just been beaten purple from making a stupid choice.
@HappyInTheRain Hey thanks! I've heard of people called "morons", but I always thought "maroon" means to be stranded somewhere. I learn something new every day.
@johnbe, You evidently aren't old enough to remember Bugs Bunny and Elmer. Classic cartoon, great lines.
@SargeMcC Aren't you supposed to say it twice? It's been a while......
@Nic Stevens I love Bugs Bunny!
Wow! Someone submit this story (and hopefully video) to worlds dumbest robbers. Your really going to try and steal something from someone walking into a boxing gym, then head down the street towards a police station. Clearly this crook is skilled in the ways of the street. LOL.
SCORE!!! LOL this made my day...oh yes.
LOL! What an idiot! Thanks for the laugh!
What??? The victim didn't need an arsenal to defend himself, just some skills???
The NRA isn't gonna like THAT!
 @Fooey Patooey! So I, a 120lb female, is supposed to defend myself using only my hands, against a male that out weighs me by who knows how much? I don't think so. That thug deserved a bullet to the chest. Problem solved.
 @Fooey Patooey! What happens when it is one of your friends or relatives that is not so skilled at protecting themselves with their hands? What happens when it is your friend or relative that is being lowered into the ground because the mugger got the better of them? Will you be so smug then? This is great that someone stood their ground against a mugger that was prepared to use violence to get what he wanted but this only worked because the victim has been trained in hand to hand combat. Muggers use violence to get what they want, I am glad it failed in this case but there are too many cases where it does not fail and there are many victims of this violence that are dead because they had no way to protect themselves. You are just an enabler for all the muggers out there that wish guns were banned. I hope you enjoy watching your friends and family being afraid when guns are removed from our society. Violence has been proven to get worse when the criminals know they have no worries from guns. There is already a huge amount of real estate that people do not enter due to violence, removing guns will only make more land off limits to the law abiding citizens. Just ask the residents of Chicago.
@Beam_Me_Up @Fooey Patooey! Tuba Man.....
 @Beam_Me_Up  @Fooey Patooey! Plus the fact if the mugger was armed with a gun or knife, that pretty much eliminates empty hand defense.  Not to mention that while knowing how to throw punches is good for self-defense, boxing is a fairly limited martial art.  Pretty much anyone that doesn't have grappling skills is toast if they only know striking. (Not to mention not all of us are strong enough to use hand-to-hand combat, e.g., women, smaller people, or senors.  It takes some mass and strength to throw effective crosses and hooks, etc.)
Â
Implying from this incident, it is fortunate that the mugger didn't use a weapon/was unarmed and didn't know how to fight. Â

 @Bubba Gunners 5) Never slap a man that chews snuff.
 @al_wa  @Bubba Gunners Never fall in love with a stripper.Â
Well that's my feel good story for today.
I can see it now. There is a APB out for a suspect missing a few front teeth and a bruised ego. :-)
 @Muk115 Or....
Â
"The officer caught up with the suspect in the 1200 block of East Olive Street and arrested him."
Awesome, I hope video of this turns up some time
Ha ha! I love it when the tables get turned on people who think they have the right to steal from others.
Hand-wraps really make a difference. Now he'll probably wrap his hands before arriving at the gym.
No one has ever said criminals were the most intelligent of individuals.
 The guy was walking into a Boxing Studio - obviously there's a high chance he could fight.  Good thing the mugger is a moron and not very good at selecting a better location to choose his "victims".
@JusticeSeeker Sounds like an acute, non-fatal failure of the Victim Selection Process.
Â
Bummer dude.
Maybe this guy can learn to read when he's in prison.
Criminal mastermind at work.Â
Sure would like to see that mug shot. LOL
 @Rockberry "mugger" shot
Bummer he possibly broke his hand. Hopefully the mugger's mug was messed up too.
 @Smashquail possibly broken jaw?
