Police: Victim outsmarts would-be carjacker
SEATTLE -- Police say a would-be carjacker was outsmarted by his potential victim Saturday night in Seattle.
A driver for a roadside service company was sitting inside his pickup in a parking lot at Virginia Street and Boren Avenue just after 8 p.m. when he said a stranger walked over to his truck.
The stranger opened the door and put his hand over the victim's mouth. Police say the attacker then began hitting the driver in the arm while telling him to leave the keys inside and get out of the truck.
The driver struggled to get the attacker's hand off his mouth, and when he eventually did, he convinced the man to back up so he could get out of the truck. When the would-be carjacker backed up, the victim closed and locked his door.
That move didn't sit well with the carjacker who, according to police, began frantically pounding on the truck's window.
The victim drove away, but stayed close enough to keep an eye on the attacker, who began going from car to car to see if any doors were unlocked. The thief then left the area on foot, but the driver followed him in his truck while calling 911.
Patrol units arrived moments later and arrested the attacker. He was booked into King County Jail for investigation of second degree robbery.
The victim was treated for minor cuts on his arm.

That guy has an 'assault mind'. Time to ban those too. Wouldn't want people thinking around here. Too difficult for criminals to rob, rape and kill.
The perp was charged with 2nd degree robbery, while the victim received more punishment for using his cell phone while driving.......
@Takamine Â
There are exceptions to the driving while on a cell phone laws. Calling 911 is one
of those exceptions.
Only second degree robbery? What about assault?
Never sit in a a parked car with your door unlocked.Â
@magicmarker Usually that would be the case but he was in his job assigned vehicle.Since his job is roadside assistance (re: second paragraph), the circumstances arenât as straight forward as being able to have the door locked at all times while sitting in the parking lot.
@AinSeattle  It only takes a couple seconds to unlock a door to offer legitimate assistance. My personal safety would always come first. In a job-assigned vehicle or my own. Â
YES!
Second degree robbery? You gotta be kidding me.
And yet there are so many among us who would insist that only a gun would have saved this man...
@OrcasThunder The gun would have saved everyone from his future crimes, rest assured he'll be back on the street soon to do it again.
@Evilmidget@OrcasThunderPerhaps we should take that even further - since bad behavior starts with small offenses, let's shoot all red light runners...
@Getov Mylon @OrcasThunder It might be best if you don't attempt to interpret my words, you don't seem to have that ability.
@OrcasThunder I don't think the TOU lets you suggest shooting people. You have to phrase it differently. Here, I'll do it for you!
Say; "By your logic, we would have to shoot red-light runners if they commit small offenses."
See the difference? No need to thank me, I am a public servant.
@OrcasThunder Another straw-man argument. No one would suggest a gun is the solution to everything or this incident. So, no, there are not "many" suggesting this. Sounds like here the perp gave the guy just a "garden variety slap across the face." No big  deal.

@Getov Mylon@OrcasThunder" No one would suggest a gun is the solution to everything or this incident."
Read Chico's post above.
That is exactly what he is advocating.Â
@Getov Mylon @OrcasThunder Don't misquote me - respond to the person who posts the comment.
@OrcasThunder "He was under attack and had the right to shoot to kill"
Hey,  I wonder what those girls that helped Ted Bundy would see as a solution as they tried to escape from his Volkswagen, only to find they couldn't open the doors?
@OrcasThunder 35 second mark.
 Biden: Much smarter than SarahÂ
@Ace "Reading your posts I would have never guessed that."
So I guess the revealing that I work for the Government and also belong to a Union would be too much for one day? And that Mrs. Mylon is an immigrant? Or that we have a tri-racial family? Too soon, I know.  :)
@Getov Mylon I support lower taxes, as long as everyone pays and loopholes are closed. The tax code is ridiculous. I like a lot of his foreign policy, like minding our own business and keeping our $$ in this country. His drug policy is also very attractive. He is also one of the very few, that hasn't flip-flopped on issues to get votes. Not that I agree with him on every thing. Â
I also voted for gay marriage and pot (haven't smoked in years, and probably won't). Reading your posts I would have never guessed that. You seem to comment positive on every "conservative" article and negative and every "liberal" article, when honestly you're probably more middle of the road, like me. :) Â
@Ace No, I don't hold the same social views. I voted for gay marriage initiative and the pot one. Her views on the role of government, taxation (lower) and corporatism are the trifecta for me.
Ron Paul? Good message on fiscal policy. Foreign policy? Not so much. Wrong messenger in either case.
@Getov Mylon You're assuming I'm an Obama fan perhaps. Look, we can agree to disagree on Palin. I don't think she will ever win an election again. The American people need to get away from voting for one of two very bad choices. You seem like a smart guy, and I'm not just saying that. That being said, I don't think you really believe Sarah is the answer to our government problems. Do you hold the same social views? Fiscal? I'd be curious to know how you feel about someone like Ron Paul.Â
@Ace Should she have continued, she would have been bankrupt. The Palins were middle-class Alaskans. Do middle-class people have half a mil for legal bills? Of course it was about money. Of course she saw an opportunity. Bankruptcy and political lame duckery (?) or become a millionaire.  Any one else do differently?
Maybe Obama does know the number of States and what they speak in Austria but what he truly, TRULY believes is that if the US Government spends enough money (especially with bundlers and cronies), imposes enough taxes and involves itself in every aspect of your life, then all will be well.
@Getov Mylon I don't believe she quit for any reason other than the opportunities that presented themselves to her. I don't blame her for making money, we would all do the same. BUT, finish the term the people elected you to. Specifically, her views on social issues differ from mine. These include, abortion, sex education, etc. Like Bush, she is not a true fiscal conservative (she wouldn't cut military spending, just social programs. They BOTH need deep cuts). As far as Biden getting a pass, you must not watch SNL. They have skewered him and Palin.Â
Finally, although I'm not an Obama fan, I don't like the Republicans any better. Romney was the worst of the bunch. That being said, it's a stretch to say you think Obama believes there are 57 states anymore than I believe Palin doesn't remember the name of any magazines. Â
@AceI have asked that question many times to folks who say they hate Palin. I don't believe any one has been able to identify a specific issue on which they disagree. They say things like, "Everything" or "She's too Conservative." I am sure if I pointed out what her positions were some folks would disagree with many of them. That's not my point. People hate her but they don't know specifically why.Â
Agree she went prime before her time.
And the reason she resigned is that she was liable for all her legal bills to defend against frivolous lawsuits under the Alaskan code at that time. Since been changed.
@Getov Mylon I am more middle of the road and agree, civility is probably a better approach than what I see a lot of on KOMO. She is ultra-conservative and quite frankly, out of touch on many issues (IMHO). The fact that she quit an elected office, to me disqualifies her for any other public service, no matter her reasons. I suspect she did it for monetary gain. The high road, would have been to finish your term and then go into entertainment. She also was chosen by McCain well before she was ready for prime time. Her knowledge just was not there on very important issues. But, the big one for me, is how she communicates. Instead of being a champion for conservative ideals, she puts down and makes fun of those she disagrees with. I hate that from any politician. It's ugly and immature. Â
@Ace Why am I a Sarah fan? She is a huge anti-corporatist that has a respect for Constitutional and free-market values. That she drives the Blue People bonkers is a good bonus. The thing that gets me is that time after time after time, our current VP commits bonehead gaffe after bonehead gaffe and we get crickets from the Legacy Media.  We have a President that was likely a C student for most of his college and university that doesn't know how many States there are, what the debt is within $10B are or what language they speak in Austria, but Tina Fey does a throwaway one liner and if you ask anyone, they attribute it to Palin.  If ANY Red Team had uttered the above about a "garden variety slap," it would have been headline news 24/7 until the summer solstice.Â
But Palin is the stupid one.
I ask you this; What are the most important specific issues you disagree with her on?  Thanks you for your time and  your civil question.
@Getov Mylon You think Sarah is smart? I'm not a Biden cheerleader, but come on man, you think Palin is the answer? Seriously, even if you are very conservative, as you seem to be, Ron Paul or many, many others would be a better choice. Riddle me this, what does she offer, that makes her so attractive to you?
@OrcasThunder Your darned right. He was under attack and had the right to shoot to kill. Now we the taxpayer get to foot the tab to incarcerate the fool for however long he stays behind bars.
@Chico So you are advocating murder in a situation solved by a minimum of street smarts? That is how they guy from Northgate went to prison for manslaughter after shooting the guy who took his car stereo.Â
The under intelligence of the common crook never ceases to amaze me.
@mstipton It isn't just IQ. The last "citizen's arrest" I saw in my neighborhood the individual tackled had every appearance of a drug addict. It's desperation as much as anything.Â
