Police: Whiskey drinking man punched two officers
SEATTLE -- Police say a man caught drinking Fireball whiskey on the campus of Seattle Central Community College Monday night resisted arrest and punched two officers in the face.
Officers were called to the campus at 9:45 p.m. after getting a call about a woman passed out in front of the college. When the two officers -- a man and a woman -- arrived moments later, they saw three men and a woman passing around a bottle of whiskey in front of the school's performance hall.
The male officer asked one of the men for his identification. At that point, police say another man in the group began walking away. In attempt to keep the man from escaping, the female officer grabbed his backpack.
Police say the man then turned and punched the officer in her face. Seeing his partner in trouble, the male officer jumped in the melee and he, too, took a punch to the face.
The attacker continued to struggle and all three ended up wrestling on the ground for roughly four minutes before the officers could get the man cuffed.
The female officer's husband, who is also a Seattle police officer, showed up moments later and, seeing that his wife had been injured, "made brief physical contact" with the suspect, according to police. Officers quickly grabbed the husband and kept him away from the suspect.
The female officer hit her head in the struggle and was treated at the hospital for that injury and for cuts on her hands and knees. The male officer didn't need medical attention.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was taken to Harborview for treatment and then booked into King County jail on investigation of assault.
Officers searched the man's backpack and found roughly 3.8 grams of what is believed to be marijuana.

It is DISGUSTING what Seattle police get away with. Total Corruption. Every single officer KNEW we didn't have accountability all these years and kept their mouths shut. Our so-called civilian oversight director of the OPA Kathryn Olson earned over 700,000.00 these past few years giving the impression we had accountability yet she still sits in that cushy job that she failed miserably at. She also reports directly to the mayor the city council and the police chief so NONE of them can claim ignorance. I call that fraud on all the tax payers. Now we are going to pay 4 more people to oversee the director who oversees accountability. Does this make any sense? Seattle is being defrauded by our entire police department and our elected officials. Its Pathetic!Â
@Andrew Bush Don't you ever get tired of doing this crap?
Personally I have lost any and all sympathy for this cast of characters roaming the streets wearing blue. Again we have a knucklehead making brief contact with detained suspect in a situation that is already under control. The community is watching and each and every time you leap from the front seat of your patrol vehicle. Think about your fellow officers before you get them jammed up in jackpot because of your uncontrolled stupidity.
Awww.... what a sweet husband!
The SPD really should have an anti-nepotism policy. I'm sure emotions run high when an officers partner is harmed while on duty but when personal and intimate emotions are involved its the recipe for disaster. In this example the husband to the female officer went overboard in comparison to her actual partner. This can expose the SPD to legal liability and in turn, the tax payers covering the bill.
This is why Officers that are couples should be assigned to different precincts. Even beyond the risks associated with this particular incident, there are other issues, such as creating an uncomfortable and hostile work environment for other employees when there are couples working together. I've seen Officers and Supervisors that are married, assigned to the same precinct (with the very uncomfprtable split-ups), Officer/Officer marriage and (very ugly) divorce, Officer/Officer shenanigans, and admin refuses to deal with it, even when others complain.
Â
The real problem is poor leadership, and refusing to use common sense when managing human employees.
Â
@notez2cme This asks another question, did the husband just "Happen" to show up, or was he one of the back-up officers called to handle this melee, if he just happened to show up because he heard it on the scanner and started getting physical with the guy, that's one thing, if he was back-up, that makes it a different story.
@Olivia Well lets play with the idea that he was back-up.
Â
SPD hubby arrives at the scene, the suspect is cuffed and in custody. He learns the suspects punched his SPD wife in the face, he makes unwarranted and illegal physicalÂ
contact with the suspect? Is this acceptable?  Â
 @Olivia That's what I'm talking about.
Â
I would have done the same thing as the husband, I'm almost certain or at least felt like I should have a shot or two at the suspect. Maybe not realizing at the time that my job puts me at a higher risk when my wife who does the same job and works the same shift is hurt by a cowardly, drunken suspect so to limit my exposure to liability my employer should have a nepotism policy in place not allowing this. So to answer your question. Both should have to make a decision as to if they want to keep their job or relationship, but one MUST to go.Â
@notez2cme Maybe these Police departments should not hire husbands and wives together, or have them back each other up, knowing in the forefront things like this may indeed happen.
@notez2cme I'm not saying it is acceptable, it most certainly is not, but I can understand how the husband felt, believe it or not SPD officers do have human emotions and sometimes react to a situation without thinking about the outcome, ok, he made a mistake, bad judgement on his part, so what do you think his punishment should be?
@notez2cme After all it says they were both punched in the face, maybe they both needed the extra help he was providing.
I dont see what difference it makes what they were drinking. Whiskey, water, apple juice, who cares. Ive drank that stuff before, it will get you drunk like any other hard alcohol. Sounds to me this is more sensationalism by the media.
@northwestsurfer Actually that was pulled directly from the SPD's own headline on the blotter.
@DarkParty I understand that, but I dont see what difference it makes. The police put it in the report as they are supposed to do, since it was evidence and will be used in court. The media chooses what to report; sometimes they generalize and sometimes they sensationalize by reporting everything at a granular level
@DarkParty I totally agree with you. we are gluttons for punishment, we keep coming back for it
@northwestsurfer Komo is good at doing that, Never give the pertinent information, But if it's useless, We'll put it in the story!
Sounds like she got the worst of it, she hit her head, had cuts on her hands and knees, and the male officer didn't need any medical attention, where was he when she was getting ruffed up? no wonder her husband got involved, just human reaction when a loved one, no matter if she's a cop or what gets attacked.
@Olivia He was dealing with another one of the people drinking.

@DarkParty Well, seems they should have had some back-up, seems it would be hard for 2 to handle 4 drunks, Police or not, so maybe the husband WAS on back-up, he's  human too and reacted in a human way, I don't blame him.
@DarkParty Ok, thanks for clearing that up.
@Olivia He got punched by the same guy when they were wrestling with him on the ground.
@DarkParty Did the male officer get punched in the face by one of the other drunks? or by the same drunk? it reads: Punched (2) officers in the face.
they shoot an old man so why not these guys. that seems the way of the seattle police...
@Theonedog These guys did not point a gun at them.
The female officer's husband, who is also a Seattle police officer, showed up moments later and, seeing that his wife had been injured, "made brief physical contact" with the suspect, according to police. Officers quickly grabbed the husband and kept him away from the suspect.
Â
When human filth gets a badge everyone pays. Â I wonder what this mans injuries were after this "brief contact" Â
Â
Are our police really this stupid?? Â Â YES! Â And PROVEN to be Over and Over. Â Â
Â
Its just pathetic at this point. Â Â
Â
Â
@Andrew Bush Slow down there Mr. Bush, don't stroke out, for crying out loud, do you really hate our Police force that much to say they are all human filth? I think you need to get a hold on your anger....are you any relation to the White House Bush's?
@Andrew Bush what's your problem dude? Did you get a speeding ticket for going 5 miles over the limit? I hope someday you get a ticket for jaywalking the cop decides to arrest you for disorderly conduct when you start running your mouth
@Andrew Bush Keep your cop hating comments to yourself, I wish every cop had a picture of you so when you needed them they could refuse to help you because you hate them so much!
@DarkParty  Listen to you.  You want cops to be able to assault anyone and now you want them to refuse to do the job we pay them to do. Â
Â
Funny thing... People are realizing that the majority of these people attacking anyone who speaks out against police corruptuion usually DO NOT LIVE IN SEATTLE!!!
Â
Keep your Fascist comments to yourself if you Hate accountability so much. Â
Â
Â
Â
@DarkParty nope, no "free passes" to be a violent cop. they are supposed to be professionals.
@DarkParty  @Andrew Bush If a guy beats a woman, I have no sympathy for him. If he punched him, good, hope he had gloves so that he didn't have to be treated for a bite wound.
Its apparent this guy is making things up as he goes, in order to rationalize his arguement
@Andrew Bush @DarkParty so show us the audit that includes the entire SPD for defrauding everyone in this city of millions of dollars...
 @katiemcc lol, Good catch! :)
@DarkParty @Andrew Bush "Read the indecent report" -- was that a freudian slip? I think you meant "incident report" (but your comment was more amusing!)
@Andrew Bush Where does it say he BEAT a handcuffed man?
@Andrew Bush Read the indecent report, Your making it sound like he beat the living hell out of the guy, To me it sounds like he maybe shoved him before the other cops pulled him away, would he have done more? maybe. Who cares about maybe. Doesn't matter what I say, You will hate cops and continue to do so no matter what.
@DarkParty You contradict yourself by your own past comments. Â
Â
There is no justification for an officer to beat a handcuffed man. Â NONE!
Â
This officer should be charged with assault but since the entire Seattle Police Department has been proven to be corrupt over and over and over again I won't hold my breath. Â
Â
You keep defending the lawlessness of the Seattle Police. Â Sound like a full time job to me. Â Â
Â
Â
Â
@Andrew Bush I defend what I consider are justifiable actions by police, I do not believe they are infallible or that every cop is a good cop.
Â
You on they other hand say that every cop incident no matter how just, was done by a corrupt officer.
@DarkParty When  our entire police department has been defrauding the citizens of Seattle out of Millions for a system of accountability I can definitely say CORRUPTION.  Â
Â
YOU however defend the corrupt abusive police on every post. Â
Â
You hate the rule of law and holding these crooked disgusting cops accountable and that is evident in every comment you make in regards to our CORRUPT Seattle Police Department. Â
Â
@Andrew Bush Assault anyone? No, Someone that just assaulted two police officers one of which was his wife, Yeah I give him a free pass.
Â
And you are not speaking out about police corruption, You just HATE cops, It is evident in every comment you make in regards to police.
so the "husband" officer made contact with the perp after he was in custody? don't these cops learn anything?
Â
sure, it'd be tough to see you wife in trouble, but as an cop you are supposed to keep above the fray. might be a good idea to re-assign one of them.
@SwampThing Call it a job perk. Someone punches my wife in the face and they are still around when I see what they have done, it would take a few people to hold me back, cop or not it is a natural reaction to protect your wife.
@DarkParty  @SwampThing Sure it is. Unfortunately, in this instance, it means a lawsuit.
@two loons  @SwampThing Not necessarily, Don't know the extent of his "brief physical contact"
Sounds like the "husband" attacked him after he waas in custody so I assume he is speaking with an attorney today!
What happened to the passed out woman? I know I'm going to get a lot of flack for this observation, but  I don't think women should be in a position where they have to wrestle with a drunk, drug high man that just quite possibly may be stronger, heavier, and younger, policing is a rough business, you never know what you will encounter, and a lot of law breakers are not above shoving women police officers around, just because they can.........ok, ok let me have it.........but I still believe being a police officer is a mans job.
@MC Since you asked for it, I'll say it this way. I'm a woman who needed a job. I got a job bar tending. It brings me in close contact with drunks. I can handle them. A pool cue comes in handy in those instances. You are entitled to your antiquated sexists beliefs. By holding on to them, you may attempt limit the possibilities of a loved one- such as a daughter or wife or sister. Hopefully they will tell you to shove it and get the job they want - which of course requires a much better economy for a lot of things, but police officer is pretty much a field that is always hiring.
@two loons A pool cue is not a good defence against a drunk who just might be carrying a weapon, sounds as if they were that drunk, that you had to threaten with a pool cue, they were OVER SERVED, and should have been escorted out before it came down to you threatening with a pool cue, I can see MC's point, but hey, if that's what ladys choose to do, then be prepared, as in any profession, even bartending, I was also a bartender, and not once did I have to confront a drunk with a pool cue, that's what bouncers are for.
@two loons Calm down, just your attitude makes me wonder, I'm all for women's rights and that includes the right to choose which job they prefer, what I'm saying is, weather you want to believe it or not, WOMEN are not as strong, physically as Men, and therefore makes them a greater target against these types, Oh believe me, I have encountered women who would scare the bejesus out of the Blue Cyclone, and could whip 4 men at once, but alas, they are not on that side of the law, know what I mean? oh and btw, I have been told to shove it by many, but know what? that is a juvenile saying by people who don't like others to have an opinion, sorry if that offends you, but live and let live, my opinions are just as valid as yours, and I can offer them without getting nasty about it and telling you to shove it..Have a nice day..
@MC @two loons Women may not be as physically strong as men but when they are properly trained in self-defense & submission tactics, they should be more than capable of handling a man larger than they. Obviously the police have physical standards which must be met so not just anyone (man or woman) can do the job.
