Police: Wine stealing suspect caught red-handed
SEATTLE - A taste for fine wine landed a man behind bars Saturday night, according to police.
Just after 10:45 p.m., security officers at the Safeway in the 12300 block of 15th Avenue Northeast confronted the suspect after he left the store without paying for a $55 bottle of wine.
The suspect struggled with security officers in the store parking lot before police arrived. Once on scene, the police officers gained control of the suspect and placed him under arrest.
He was booked into jail for investigation of robbery.

...sorry, the headline was begging for it ;)
I was at Safeway last night. Someone walked out the door with a cart of groceries without paying. The store clerk tried to give chase, but there wasn't anything she could do beyond writing down the license plate number of the white lincoln. She told me that they are so understaffed that they can't adequately guard the store at night.
@Vinnie I had the exact same experience.  Once they're out the door, there's nothing the store can do except record info and call the police.  And these people know that.  It's a shame.
So he was caught with a cabernet, shiraz, merlot, port............not a chardonnay?
This is happening everywhere, every day. Â Our local grocer told me these thieves know there's nothing anyone can do so they load up their handbasket with booze and walk right out the doors. Â He told me this because I told him I had seen someone do just that. He said some even wave at the cameras or flip them off! Â
When a thief uses force while stealing, it's no longer shoplifting, but robbery.
Robbery huh? Looks more like shoplifting to me.
@northwestsurfer When he struggled with security, it then became a robbery, which is basically stealing using force or fear. Â
Red handed?
As opposed to white, black, yellow brown....
Seems 'insensitive' to me.
@bobalouie    Oh puhleez. It's a figure of speach.  Many suggested origins, but none of them racist.
@achoo2 @bobalouie Pretty sure that was a tongue in cheek comment.
@achoo2Â @bobalouie
Well, it could have been a bottle of chardonnay; if so, wouldnât that make it âclear handedâ?
I think it was a failed attempt at humor by the author because they forgot to mention that it was red wine. If it wasn't red wine, then the headline is silly but not at all insensitive as bobalouie said.
@dome200q @achoo2 @bobalouie HAHAHA! I was going to ask if it was merlot?
You need to wear a lead suit and talk through a styrofoam cup these days so you dont offend other people and dont get offended yourself. This country has gotten so goddamn sensitive and politically correct you cant do anything anymore without being sued, fired, or chastised.
This doesn't really sound like a very newsworthy story here. Doesn't this happen like all the time now? How is this one any different?
@Zoso I do like to see the reminder that people get caught shoplifting. Hopefully someone will get the message.
@Steve98028Â As much as I would love to believe that, that's probably wishful thinking.
