Police: Woman abducted, forced to be bank robbery getaway driver
EVERETT, Wash. -- A female Everett Community College student was abducted at gunpoint and forced to be the getaway driver during a bank robbery last week, according to the Everett Police Department.
According to police, the victim was getting into her parked car near the college around 5 p.m. Jan. 23 when a man pointed a gun at her and forced his way into the car.
The man told her to drive him to numerous locations around north Everett and downtown, according to police.
During a stop in downtown Everett, the man had the victim park and told her to stay put.
"Before he left the vehicle, he said, 'I know who you are, I know your license plate, if you leave I will find you and I will kill you,' " said Aaron Snell with Everett police.
The victim later told officers she was afraid and stayed in the car until the man returned and had her continue to drive him around.
Around 6 p.m., the man told her to park outside the Wells Fargo Bank at 1801 Broad Ave.
According to police, the man went into the bank and used a note to threaten a teller into handing over money.
The man walked out with his cash, got back in the car and had the victim drop him off near where he first abducted her, according to police.
According to police, the man is black, 20 to 30 years old, about 5-feet-11-inches tall and 160 pounds. He had shoulder-length black dreadlocks that may or may not have been a wig and a French or African accent. He was wearing a dark blue beanie, a dark blue jean jacket, blue jeans and brown shoes.
This is crazy because I ran cross country with Bearket for two years, and was on the same team when he took first in state...it's so sad to see him go down this path. He had a lot of potential
Fear CAN be paralyzing. I speak from experience. Now. I'm not sure what I would have done had they left me alone for moments, but I do know that 3 guys, with guns ...well, fight or flight takes over ... And you tend to believe whatever they tell you .. Unfortunately it is so often the same type of comment "I know where you live", "I know what your car looks like" ... as a matter of fact, you CAN get info with license plates, especially if they know someone who works for police, dept of licensing, etc. How do I know this? OH yeah. I speak from experience. Again, I don't know what I would have done had they left me alone at any time, ...but I can absolutely say without ANY doubt ... fear can be paralyzing.
Something does't sound right. She drove him all around downtown making several stops where he left her in the car while he went inside? I think someone started feeling guilty and had to come up with a nice alibi.
She could have totally went into the grocery store or gas station right across the street and called 911. This is right by where I live and there were plenty of places she could have ran to. So yea I think either she was in on it or seriously too scared to do anything.
This story doesn't seem to add up. I'm not saying the girl is involved in it but several things seem odd. If the guy got out to rob the bank, why didn't she flee the scene? Did she really think this guy could track her down by knowing her licence plate? I'm betting this guy wasn't the smartest individual in the world and would probably forget the plate # by the time she escaped. Also, while this guy was in the bank, why didn't she immediately call 911 and get away to a safe location?
I understand what fear can do but if someone was threatening me with a gun and actually got out of the car (far enough away where I could get a clean getaway), my first instinct would get the heck out of there and call 911. I would then give the cops a description of the suspect.
Fear can be paralyzing!
Between the picture and the student's story, things just don't add up. Too many things here are just 'off'.
"Dude Looks Like a Lady".
Â
Is that image really of a guy? Sure has girly features
@R. Wonder if he's reading this. Too bad if he is.
She drove around all over town with the guy in the car? At various stops? Â Wow. Â Someone needs to get her, and other girls her age, that book "the Gift of Fear." Â Written by an ex cop who specializes in these cases. The biggest takeaway from the book is NEVER let them take you away from your location. Â She is beyond lucky to be alive. And even though she said she was afraid to drive away when he was out of the car all those times, she ended up going to the police anyway. Â Seriously.. someone gets out of your car, you leave. You call 911. Â Or you hit another car while you're driving, preferably a parked car by a police station. Â Frankly, I'd have run his punk ass over. Oops... foot slipped. Â
Can we just say we have absoluteoly had it with thugs and just throw them in prison forever...
Fishy story! If this is true, Everett CC needs to educate their students a little better. Make it mandatory for all new students to take Common Sense 101. When you have a chance to drive away from danger, you should do so.
Why didn't she call the cops when he was in the bank?
Patty Hearst syndrome... anyone old enough to remember her? (showing my age... ugh) For the record... she knew what she was doing.
That story is full f BULL! or she is one STUPID person.
If your not a crook, you simply run the car into another car, hard!!!
Better yet, drive off when he went into bank. Simply change Licence Plate. DUH!!!
End of story....
BS........there's no way she stayed put because she was afraid..she was in on it...C'mon on how stupid are you people for believing her...
Not to lady, when he got out of the car, your gas pedal is your friend. There is more to this......
....this sounds like someone got double-crossed...
Wierd....I l almost don't believe her. Maybe when you are young thinking isn't your thang.
Floor it, right into a telephone pole.
I usually try not to judge but I'm pretty sure the second I had a chance to get away the pedal would have been floored to the metal!!!
The outcome of this would have been a lot different if the woman was armed, even with pepper spray.Â
If the man threaten her at the bank and she was scared to drive off but was let go after the whole robbery and she is no longer threaten that he is going to come get her. I call B.S. but I have been wrong before.
This chick full of crap.
Guess anything is possible in Everett...
Again, people judging others. As mentioned, people don't always think well under stress. I also feel like I would have driven off but then again, I'm not looking at a gun. We don't even know the whole story. Maybe the car belongs to a friend or family member and she was fearful of getting them involved.
I'm sure this young man was in the process of turning his life around............
@quinoline2 Right into someone holding a gun on him.
Why is everyone dissing the girl for hanging around?
So, Let me see.. if she was a EVCC then she was probably 19 or 20, car jacked, threatened, had a gun pointed at her, traumatized, scared and not making the best decisions of her life at that point in time.
Â
Let's fry the criminal and not make wild ASSumptions about the victim.
@IMHO I don't care how young and naive you are if you are truly scared to death you will not sit around and wait for the person who could potentially kill you to come back. It's not even somewhat believable unless the cops come back and say she has the mental capacity of a child.
@IMHO Like you just did?
If he did have a gun I highly doubt he'll be willing to giove it up if Obama and the rest of the clowns get their wish.
So...if she contacted the police anyway, why again did she sit in her car and wait for this guy to come back?
Â
Her story doesn't make any sense. Or maybe she just lacks common sense.  I dunno.Â
Â
Â
I could maybe see her feeling threatened if he had taken her driver's license which probably has her current address on it... I will be a little surprised if it doesn't turn out that they know each other. Doesn't mean he didn't threaten her though.Â
"During a stop in downtown Everett, the man had the victim park and told her to stay put or he would use her license-plate number to find her and kill her, according to police."
Â
She should have used her license plate, with car attached, to run his ar$e down...
Â
but seriously, I am glad no one was injured.
One question - Did she go to the police station or did the police come to her?
@Half-Baked She went to the police station after dropping the man off, according to Everett PD.
I think I would have drove into the police station to drop the man off.
@MichaelHarthorne  @Half-Baked Probably something you should put in the article, don't you think?
That photo showing looks like a female frame.
@Half-Baked I thought it was a pic of the socalled abducted girl. I guess the robber was gay.
@Half-Baked That's what I thought too - that picture looks like a woman. I can understand that the "abducted" young woman might have been frightened with a gun pointed at her, but to stay like a well-trained dog while the "abductor" is inside robbing a bank - don't believe it for a minute!
Sorry, I don't buy her story at all.Â
@lakeview Thanks for cracking the case wide open.
She was VERY lucky he didn't decide to hurt or kill her. I hope that if any other women come into this situation, if they have a chance to get free from the criminal, do it. She had a couple of opportunities where she could have driven or ran off.
@The WA Mama Agreed. If his intent was to kill her, he would do it at the end even if she obeyed his orders and threats. Very stupid of her to comply.Â
Well she was probably very scared and couldnât think. I do not think a hood rat would one write down/ remember never mind tap the DMV for her address. Â A good pic of the jerk though they should catch the bright young man. glad she is O.K.
