Police: Would-be armed robber foiled by victim's fake confusion
SEATTLE -- A man foiled a gun-wielding would-be robber by faking confusion during the robbery attempt early Thursday in Capitol Hill, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to police, the victim had just parked his car near 11th Avenue and East Harrison Street around 12:30 a.m. when a stranger knocked on his window and pointed a gun at him.
When the man demanded money and told the victim to roll down the window, the victim feigned confusion and acted like he didn't know what the would-be robber was talking about, according to police.
This obviously angered the man, who then tried to smash the car's window with the butt of his gun, according to police.
When that didn't work, the man yelled at the victim and walked off.
The victim called 911 and drove to the East Precinct to meet with officers.
Officers searched the area but were unable to find the would-be robber, who was described as a 6-foot-3-inch-tall black man with a round face and a small amount of facial hair wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt and baggy clothes.
Wouldn't ya know it!
I'm really glad the victim was able to confuse the creep, however, now that the information was broadcasted all over, the would be bad guy may just shoot the window out instead of sitting there arguing with victim. Sometimes too much information is not a good thing. But you know as will as I do, the media really doesn't care about the victims as long as they get their story. Long live KOMO.Â
@wickeddriver Thats hilarious.
"Wearing a brown hooded sweatshirt." Shocking.
@rainbowsandunicorns Undoubtedly filled with skittles.
This guy has no damage to himself or his car? Either very lucky or it was just a bum begging for change and he didn't really have a gun.
@DarkParty You do realize the article said he HAD a gun?
@DMT Says the guy that thought it was fun to pretend to not understand? I find that hard to believe.
baggie? how about baggy
@Carol B Corrected! Thanks for pointing out the typo. In my (admittedly terrible) defense, SPD misspelled it first.
@MichaelHarthorne So not only (allegedly) is SPD abusive they are also terrible spellers? Sorry had to beat someone to it!
@Komo Dragon  Threw the criminals off. Made them feel smart when we know criminals are stupid.
@Zoso @aintno1special @MichaelHarthorne Hey Columbo was always confused and it worked wonders.
@aintno1special @MichaelHarthorne Or they could be as "confused" as the victim. ;)
@Carol B Could have been Ziploc in nature?
Faked confusion? He's one lucky dude....
That victim was really stupid to play it off like that. He was lucky that the guy didn't shoot him or beat the crap out of him. No amount of money is worth your life.  If he was armed himself and used that as a distraction to get his weapon, that's one thing, but not when he had no defense.
This so called victim the biggest wuss. If that were me i would of got out of my car and took the gun from the robber and put this scumbag down.
@Seattle Sarcastic typing detected.
@Seattle yeah, right
Glad the victim is OK but this was incredibly stupid. He should have been armed and acted like he was going to comply and then drew on this creep and put him down.
Now this guy with the gun is smarting from this failure and is humiliated by it. Heck, he might even see this story and be so enraged at his failure that he'll resolve to go out and "do it for SURE" this next time.
People who are willing to use/threaten violence don't belong on earth. Put them under it.Â
@NW-Economist I agree with portions of your story - but dissagree with others.
Namely, sure, the POS suspect is not worth the air he breaths. HOWEVER, its not worth putting your life in additional danger to "put him down". Unless you feel that he legitimately is going to injure or kill you, shooting him should never even be considered.
I carry every day. If I was in this situation, I would do my very best to have all parties involved walk away alive with no bullets fired. With that being said, if he attempted to do any injury, or if I felt he had more in mind than robbery, you can bet damn sure I wouldnt feel the slightest hesitation to do what was needed.
Its all about logic. Logically, the best way to get out of most situations is to comply or run. When that fails, or there is other circumstances, the logical decision is to fight. In addition, if you are being logical, you have to consider the legal ramifications of shooting someone in a situation that may or may not be considered self defense.
Its all in the circumstances.
@Avalonis Very few 'things' are worth killing or dying for.
What a stupid savage! Was he using a rubber gun?
@StringerJoe Not sure how one couldn't break a window if the gun was real...Victim was a lucky SOB for sure.
