Police arrest sex offender after Pioneer Square attack

SEATTLE -- Police arrested a registered sex offender early Monday morning after he allegedly attacked a woman near Pioneer Square.

A witness called 911 just after 4 a.m. to report what he believed was a sexual assault.

When officers arrived, they found a woman who had just been attacked. The 37-year-old said she was walking home from work when someone game up from behind her and tried to rip off her clothes, according to police.

Officers searched the area and quickly found the accused attacker, who they learned is a level two registered sex offender. The man, who has not been named, was booked into King County Jail for investigation of sexual assault.

The woman was taken to local hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Sexual Assault detectives will be handling the case.
