Police find missing infant and mother; father still at large

VANCOUVER, Wash. – Police arrested a Vancouver woman they say fled with her 5-month-old son who had been in protective custody, but the boy's father is still at large.

Summer Smith, 36, was arrested on outstanding warrants after police tracked her down at a home on W. 19th St. in Vancouver.

Her son, Jaxon Smith, was placed back into custody by child protective services.

Police said Jaxon’s father, 31-year-old Kasey McKernan, assaulted a CPS worker last month, grabbed Jaxon and took off in a car Smith was driving.

Police are still looking for McKernan.

Also arrested Saturday was John Maxwell, 49, who was at the home where Smith was hiding. Maxwell was arrested on outstanding warrants.

Police said they anticipate arresting more people who helped hide Jaxon from law enforcement.
