New report of man exposing self to girls near W. Seattle schools

New report of man exposing self to girls near W. Seattle schools
SEATTLE -- Police are now investigating a second incident in West Seattle Wednesday involving a man exposing himself to children on school playgrounds.

During morning recess at West Seattle's Holy Rosary School, three 14-year-old girls first reported they noticed a man was parked on 41st Avenue SW and as he watched the girls, he held a cell phone near his face as if he was talking pictures or videotaping them, said Det. Jeff Kappel with Seattle Police.

The girls moved away to another part of the playground, but the man drove his car to be closer to the girls. That's when the three girls noticed the driver's door was now open and the man was naked from the waist down, Kappel said. The girls ran off to tell the recess monitor and the man sped off west on SW Dakota Street. There was no sign of him by the time officers arrived.

Then, Wednesday evening, Seattle police got a report of a man who exposed himself to a 7-year-old girl at Westside School around 12:30 p.m. The girl reported the man was sitting in his black car with no pants on near the intersection of 32nd Ave SW and SW Holden St. She said the man saw her but didn't say anything; she left and went back to her friends. It wasn't until she got home that day and told her father about the incident that police were called.

All of the victims described a similar suspect: A white man in his 30s or 40s with dark hair and a normal to slender scruffy beard. He was wearing only a red shirt and was driving a beat-up small black car with body damage.

Police are also investigating whether there is a connection to another indecent exposure incident at Holy Rosary on Sept. 9 that involved a man exposing himself to three 9-year-old girls. However the description of that suspect and his vehicle are quite different than the two cases Wednesday.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Sexual Assault Unit at (206) 684-5575. Anonymous tips are welcome.
