Auburn police investigate at the scene where the body was found Saturday.
AUBURN, Wash. - Police have launched an investigation after a man's body was found in the yard of an empty house in Auburn, officials said.

Auburn Police Cmdr. Mike Hirman said the victim has not been identified but suffered wounds that are considered to be suspicious.

"At this time we are not releasing the cause of those wounds," Hirman said in a prepared statement.

Officers responded to the scene, in the 11100 block of SW 304th Street, after receiving a 911 call Saturday morning.

The body was found by a contractor that had been hired by the owner of the home, who lives in California, to clear brush in a neighboring field. The victim is believed to be a man in his 40s or 50s, Hirman said.

The King County Medical Examiner determined that the body has been there for about a day when it was discovered.

Auburn police detectives are investigating the scene and interviewing potential witnesses.
