Police investigating attempted rape of girl in South Seattle
SEATTLE -- The search is on for a man who tried to rape a 14-year-old girl in South Seattle overnight.
The incident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. in the 9500 block of Carkeek Dr. S. Police said the girl was walking home from a nearby light rail station when she noticed a man was following her.
The man, whom she'd seen on the light rail platform, soon caught up with the girl, grabbed her by the jacket and tried to pull her to the ground. When the girl did not lose her balance or fall, the man attempted to push her down an embankment and tried to pull off her leggings, police said.
The girl fought back, punching the man while screaming. The man then fled the scene.
Officers searched the area by foot and by air, but could not find the man. He remains at large.
Police said they have obtained surveillance footage of the suspect captured by Sound Transit cameras.
The suspect is described as an East Indian man in his 30s who is about 5-foot-7 with a medium build and short black hair. He was last seen wearing a black Chicago White Sox hat, black leather jacket, white shirt, dark pants and dark shoes.
Anyone with information on the case is urged to call 911 immediately. Anonymous tips are welcome.

The parents of the 14 year old girl should be arrested be taken to court and explain what she was out at 1 AM. There is some thing called accountable. Then if he is caught casterate him. This wouldnt happen in LIBERAL Seattle
I hope he's found soon. BTW, did everyone hear about the New Mexico state representative who has proposed legislation that would make women who get an abortion after being raped or becoming the victim of incest guilty of a felony count of destruction of evidence? I've tried as many scenarios as I can conjure up which would have a 14 year old on a light rail and walking home at 1am ... sneaking home, sneaking out, lives with people who don't care, homeless? I'm completely brainstorming here. But, I doubt she was coming home from a job or the gym...

I am glad she was able to fight her attacker off. Many have not been so lucky.

What the FRICK was a 14 year old girl doing out at 1am?!?! I find that just as alarming as an attempted rapist being out on the loose. WTF is wrong with some of these "parent(s)"?
Okay, I have to ask the question; why is this 14 year old girl out there at 1 AM I'm assuming by herself? I'm just glad she was at least able to defend herself.

Women must know effective Hand to Hand / self defense. A pig like this could have been crippled but now he is scoping for his next victim. If he is arrested in Wa he will do little if any time and then out to victimize untill a Citizen Soldier ends his crime spree. Only rounds that hit the target count.

New here. I just had to say something about this. And it will be rather obvious. No 14 year old should be walking up THAT road at that time of night. She isn't even old enough to be working that late at night. If my car broke down on that road at night, I'd call my dad to come get me before I would walk up that road. And I am no spring chicken.
 It is like being in a forest. There is a at least an eighth mile of road WITHOUT any houses. She is lucky to be alive.Â

@Lisa @lgconservative I don't give an eff about being PC. There is absolutely NO REASON whatsoever for a 14 year old CHILD to be out walking at that time of night! The parents should be arrested for child endangerment.
And, exactly why was a 14 year old girl walking by herself at 1:00 am? Don't they read the news? Not saying it is justified to be attacked but it is a crazy world, and if her parents weren't there, then she should have at least had a friend or someone with her at that hour.Â
Why print this story? There are thousands of other story's that involve rape with other people that have information, and you pick the one with no information.Â

Now do you understand my comment, with a story that had no info and there are other story's with info, which one would be crime prevention? I am sure that if you would have looked at the story and saw that it was posted at 2:21 and updated at 3:15, you would have notice that my comment was made before the update.  @Lisa  @SoTweetie I actually knew someone this happened to. It was horrific. No media, thankfully, but being wrongfully accused and it coming out that it was an outright lie. The police detective actually apologized for any hardship. I have no doubt it happens more frequently than people know or think.
 @SoTweetie  Valid point. Every time there is merely a rape accusation and the details haven't even been sorted out/ investigated by the police departments, media outlets have no problem posting the image and name of the person who is accused. Has anyone ever stopped to think that if it's a false rape accusation and the accused is innocent, the media has essentially destroyed the accused person life? I think it's sad we have little regard for this and the people who march in the "Slut Walk" promote this system. I always find it fascinating how they Slut Walk think anytime there is a rape accusation, due process should be thrown out and the police should convict someone based merely on their word. They believe due process is "victim blaming." Well that's funny, because in stories where the accused has been the VICTIM of a false accusation, they look the other way and say instead that anyone who went through a false rape accusation deserved it and should be happy they had the experience. Ha. Wow. Can you imagine this same logic being extended to rape victims.Â
