Surveillance video shows brazen downtown purse snatching

SEATTLE -- Two men attacked a woman and stole her purse last Friday evening at Fifth and Pine despite the throngs of shoppers and workers crowding the sidewalk, according to the Seattle Police Department.
One of the alleged purse snatchers is already in jail in connection with an unrelated crime. Now, police are hoping to catch his accomplice.
According to the police report for the incident, the men approached the woman around 6 p.m. as she was about to enter a department store, shoving her to the ground and running off with her purse.
Several bystanders attempted to chase the robbers but lost them before police arrived.
The victim, a foreign student going to school in Seattle, lost her iPhone and Orca card in the robbery, leaving her stranded downtown without a way to get home.
The robbery was captured on store surveillance cameras, providing police with a decent look at the remaining suspect.
And not one person in these posts points out that the victim is white. No racism going on here.
 @SargeMcC Hey Sherlock, you've been stuck on stupid so long it's affecting your reading skills. Or maybe white supremacy literature is color coded. Grow up! "The victim, a foreign student going to school in Seattle, lost her iPhone and Orca card in the robbery, leaving her stranded downtown without a way to get home."
Whoo Wee... Things are getting bold and really bad now days.
I haven't carried a purse in years. I carry a wallet and when out and about I take my debit card and license and stick them in my pant pocket.
You know, there's not one comment here about the accountability of women to secure their own purses. As a female, myself, I no longer trust anybody when out in public. The bad guys are creeps, it's not the SPDs fault, and bystanders are often too stunned to take immediate action. As, for us women, being a purse fashionista has it's risks. For years, I have NEVER carried a purse that wasn't strung OVER my body, not my shoulder.
Â
I can't tell you the number of times I have been blocked in aisle ways and not only seen open access to a wallet, but have jokingly said " Excuse your purse." Ladies, you are asking for a purse or wallet snatching if you don't secure your purse to your body.Too bad the fashion industry doesn't support YOUR own safety and security by making more purses with long enough straps, to wear your purse over your body.
Of course no response from James Bible unless of course the SPD doesn't give a warm cup of cocco and take him home.
 @Common Sense I read King James Bible !! Quite interesting stories!!! LMAO!
No, the best is all the people that were standing around her and did nothing. Says alot about Seattle. No one wanted to get involved. It would have put them out too much. Its all about"Me" mentality.Â
 @Busyhands Honestly, I wouldn't have gotten involved aside from calling the police and giving a description. The situation is twice as dangerous when there are two perps and there's no guarantee that anyone will back you up. If it had been one guy, I would have given chase immediately, but two? And for what? Material belongings. Unless it's two haggardly transients or stick-thin addicts, forget it.Â
Did you read?
 @Busyhands The article clearly states that bystanders attempted to chase the suspect down but lost him.Â
No surprise!
and where are our NAACP friends to decry this crime?
@swatguy1  Well, my IQ just lowered 10 points reading your stupid post. The White Supremacy Forums are that way ----------->

@WhatdidIsay?  Your words hurt me <SNIFF!>Â
 @path_tech You can always tell the in-bred, hillbilly, right wing fascists here can't we ?They have nothing to say other than to try to degrade an organization that has stood up for the people in this country who has been and still are discriminated against and oppressed for hundreds of years! Must listen to Rush & Co.
 @LoJack Tell it to the white victim.
@LoJack @path_tech You are a fool.
 @LoJack  @Common Sense Keep trying...  Its entertaining.
 @Common Sense You mean like Michelle Anderson and her boyfriend murdering 6 family members and the prosecuting attorney not considering the death penalty??? As path tech told the other.......That way>>>>>>>>>>>>
 @LoJack All I get is this arse-monger in the article above stole someone's purse!Newtown doesn't count. I think you got the logic backwards there too, buddy.  nice try.  Go reward yourself with a cookie.
 @rhiga "And where are our NRA friends to decry the slaughter of twenty 6 year old kids and 6 adults in Newtown????  Now do you you get it !
@LoJack And all they have done for the past 20 years is enable little thugs to take over a city.Â
 @LoJack  @path_tech Try reading the news to get the context of his comment.
 @path_tech His comment isn't racist.  There is a lot of dismay towards those who spit on and attacked police officers and then sued for excessive force.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SbDknWIfndshttp://www.king5.com/news/cities/seattle/NAACP-march-Seattle-183664011.html
The guy was blatantly provoking officers, he spit on one of them. Â And they sue? Â Holy crap, it stinks to high heaven.
What incentive do criminals have not to steal in Seattle? Even if caught, the are out on the streets again in less than 24 hours and if convicted, they get community service which they never do and never get held accountable for. It's hug a thug theory of justice in Seattle and it's not working.
Good, It's the city Seattle deserves. If an SPD officer would have been there and kicked his ass there would be usual the hue and cry from the panty waists and candy asses. If SPD had stopped these guys an hour before for looking suspicious Jesse Jackson and the DOJ would be marching on the city as we speak. Enjoy your sh!thole Seattle, you earned it.Â
 @wr3kl3ss How freaking clueless are you to how it is in other cities?  In other cities it is not safe to walk around, everyone drives.  In other cities cops wouldnt take fingerprints or DNA for robberies and 9/10 the guy wouldn't even get caught or any media attention.  Justice goes unanswered.  People are just prey for the picking...  Stop focusing on the negative and look at the positive.  They have his face, and he will be caught.  He will be brought to justice.  And that is why I love this city.
 @rhiga  @wr3kl3ss I don't know who he is but I've seen him around Westlake and your right, he's probably in the SPD's gang database already.
 @rhiga  @wr3kl3ss Actually I think the state should have a special prison for young energetic thugs like this that is full of exercise bikes hooked to generators. Instead owing time in prison they will owe megawatts. The power can be used for the prison or fed back to the grid.
 @Ankle Biter  @wr3kl3ss I hope he gets caught and sentenced to read 1000 college reading level books  and write 30 page reports on each by an an angry OCD English teacher with a big fat red marker, requirement of A- grade on each.  Has to turn each paper in over and over till he gets it right.  Is left in a cell with about 5 giant bookshelves, a bed and a toilet.  That's it.  Has to turn his papers in through a slot in the wall and gets no human contact till he is finished.  It will teach him to think, get him outside of his own head, and perhaps make him a little more empathetic to the plight of other human beings.  What an asshole.http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/12751.50_Books_That_Will_Change_Your_Life_Chapters_IndigoÂ
Love the guy behind him staring at his tablet. Some people are just easy prey.
Great video and picture. I hope they capture those losers pretty quick.
A good, solid caning (about 10 or so) on the courthouse steps. Â Let his friends see the agony and humiliation and they will think twice about doing something like this. Â "Da-yum. Â Listen to him scream. Â I ain't gonna do nothin' and have that happen to me."
 @wsmith_84 it works in singapore, just ask the teen that was caught tagging.
 @wsmith_84 Nah. Just do it Singapore style. Just ask Michael Faye if he's committed a crime in Singapore again. They do that AND toss them in jail. Gee, I wonder why Singapore has so little violent crime.

 @Wildstar  @wsmith_84 Whips are passé.  A cat-o-nine-tails perhaps...
Why do these savages steal so many iPhones? At least they didn't stomp her in the head when she was on the ground.
@StringerJoe The guilty run as in this case. I like when the news says "alleged". I think it's safe to say he did it. Gotta be PC
This comment has been deleted
 @quinoline2 It's not a diversity thing. It's a "soft on crime" thing. Like I said in an earlier post, cane them, Singapore style, then toss them into prison.Â
This is Seattle's spineless mayors fault. Seattle PD simply needs a stronger police presence in that area but the wimp mayor won't let them do their job. I work near Westlake and see what goes on there every day. I see the crowd of low lifes that hang out by the bus tunnel entrances. I see the crowd of druggies that hang out at 4th & Pine. And the homeless are slowly moving into the park now. Skateboarders who ignore the no skateboarding signs with glee while doing skateboard tricks inches away from elderly people with walkers. Pot smokers who blaze up bowls of weed right next to families with small children. All of this because an election is coming up and McGinn the Spineless doesn't want to to jeopardize the "hipster" vote that he needs to badly to stay in office.
 @Ankle Biter I see the same thing everyday. These losers need to be run out of town. As for McGinn, he will be gone in the next election. Burgess will win.
Westlake is a disaster in a lot of ways. It's the only place in the city where I feel like I could be both attacked by a crazy homeless person with a knife, and robbed by some punk in the same day. Â
Â
As for the mayor. I'm watching the crime statistics carefully. They are on the rise and I suspect that in light of all the gun debate lately, this will be a big issue for him if the city is perceived to be getting more unsafe under his leadership.Â
 @lakeview Try Belltown.
Execution-short and sweet. They won't stop. They will escalate to more horrible acts and prison time won't stop them but will only hone their skills.
It blows my mind how some people can think to steal from someone else is ok just because they are too god damn lazy to get off their ass and do anything with their life. Stop sitting with your hands out and start earning a living. Nobody owes anybody anything period!!!
I want to see these thugs run into some of the girls I know who attend kickboxing classes in Renton. They would have totalled these clowns.
Seattle, you are on your own. If the DOJ review didn't make it clear for you, then let me do it: the cops won't help you, they won't even show up, they'll mail you a form to fill out.
Â
Get yourself armed and trained and take these thugs out and save us money on their jailing expenses.Â
 @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
Â
Armed.... So... explain to me... how her being armed would have prevented that incident. The mugger got the drop on his victim, and succeeded.
Â
Had she been armed or at least carrying it in her purse, now a mugger has a gun.
Â
Â
That's the fatal flaw in your "Armed" argument. Muggings almost always take the victim by surprise, giving them no chance to defend themselves. Â
@Poisonous Giraffe @NW-Economist First off the LAST place I would shop is Seattle. Second having a gun in the purse would be idiotic, to be of any use it must be on your person and readily available. I know many women the carry and NONE carry in their purse.
 @benevolent misanthrope Funny thing is that happens all the time and we still have guns, imagine that...
 @NW-Economist And the first time a shooter going after the perp gets sued out of house and home by the family of the bystander he kills, that will be the end of people carrying.Â
Â
Consequences go both ways.
 @Iarehere The point is that if Seattle were a city that had more people armed, the culture would inhibit crime more like in other cities with high gun ownership and CPL rates.Â
Also in that crowd it would unlikely a trained person would shoot. It is far too crowded for that.
 @Iarehere  @Poisonous Thanks for giving a dose of reality to these goofballs.
 @Poisonous Giraffe Most people tend to carry guns in HOLSTERS not in bags...
Â
the fatal flaw in your argument is that you seem to know nothing about firearms.
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @lakeview You make me sick.Â
Â
You talk about maturity and then embarrass yourself by using the phrase "eff-tard." You are so all over the place it's amazing you can balance in front of a keyboard. Maybe you should try the "keyboard goggles" app to prevent more alcohol-inspired posts on here.
Â
I know quite a few marines, and unlike the movies, none of them go around fist-bumping each other saying "semper fi!" Grow up. Think of it this way, your adventure pretending to be a marine lasted longer than your probably unwelcome bouts of sobriety do.
Â
"If you are a grown adult, then I truly feel sorry for you and further debate and any hope of having an intellectual conversation is lost."
Â
That phrase is priceless, this is the third time you've tried throwing a temper tantrum and threatened to take your toys and run home. Please do it this timeÂ
 @NW-Economist  @lakeviewÂ
Â
Ok... I think what you're suffering from is called 'transference'. That, or you have the IQ of a 13 year old. Either way it is you who is quite sad in this conversation.... ready to denigrate that which you don't know, and quite ready and willing to rail against the perceived authority you viewed when I stated I was a Marine.
Â
If you knew ANYTHING about being a Marine, it's that we abbreviate 'Semper fidelis' as a sort of slang, into 'Semper Fi'.. We normally never say "Semper Fidelis", or, Semper Fi, Mac".. because quite honestly it sounds fake in both regards.. like you.
Â
If you are a grown adult, then I truly feel sorry for you and further debate and any hope of having an intellectual conversation is lost.
Â
I have nothing to prove, especially to an eff-tard such as yourself. If you want to debate this issue with any sort of intellect I am more than up for the challenge. However, as you continue to display your immature IQ, I feel any chance of reasoning with you is futile.
Â
I've never regretted my time in the service, but when I encounter people like you it really makes me wonder if it was worth it.
Â
Â
Â
Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe Semper fi, good to go buddy!
Â
rofl, real marines don't talk like that. such a fake.Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @lakeview I debated for a long time, and I could spout off with all the stupid argument structural terms like harms, inherency, solvency, topicality, ad-hominem, ad-absurdem, etc., but what would be the point? That's all just semantic trickery, and who cares? Besides, here on the internet why should we care about "credentials" when it's all anonymous and you are probably nothing you claim to be.
Â
The only thing that matters is the pure logic of what we say, and you are so all over the place it isn't even funny. One minute you're super marine and indignant and I quote you are "done" with me. Apparently not so done you didn't come back to throw more fuel in the fire. Lets face it, a real marine would have a bit more spine and wouldn't come crawling back to argue with me after saying they were finished. You never served the country and you claiming so is an obvious disgrace to those who did, myself included. However, I am not going to sit here and cry about it and expect you to give a crap since like I said, this is the internet and you aren't done pretending to be superman. It's quite pathetic.Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @Nitroxman rofl, took me two minutes to find the page where you lifted most of that from, guess google makes gi joes out of people huh? Isn't the internet great? I noticed you didn't pretend any awards so you obviously know the federal law about faking certain medals.Â
 @NW-Economist  @lakeviewÂ
Â
Â
It's sad that I spent time in the military... defending your right to post some really stupid gibberish.Â
Â
You would do well to learn debating techniques.. You might learn something.Â
Â
I deleted my said credentials because with that innocuous information one could possibly trace them back to me... and seeing as how you appear to be  ne of those card-carrying 2nd-amendment nutjobs, I prefer to remain a bit more anonymous.
Â
Let us know when you finish dinner with your mom. We do treasure your opinions! :-)Â
Â
 @Nitroxman  @PoisonousÂ
Â
I was attached to VMFP-3 (El-Toro at the time.. not Cherry  Point where they were VCMJ-1, -2, & -3) ...until they retired the RF4B back in '86 or '87 I think. (The stories I could tell about VMFP-3 and their frequent detachments to Cubi Point, Philippines!... ;-)From there I went on to work on the F/18 navigation systems for VMFA-333 "Trip-Tray", and even a short stint with VMFA/T-101 which was a Navy training squadron based in El-Toro, CA. Not sure what happened to them.. I think they went to Mirimar or something.
Â
 I miss those days. I spent my final 2 years working with the Navy up in Whidbey Island, attached to VA-128, an A6 training squadron.
Â
Semper Fi, fellow Marine~!Â
 @swan  @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
I wore the rifle expert award every year I was enlisted.. I never had the 'pleasure' of wearing the "toilet-bowl" award ;-). It just came naturally for me using the B.R.A.S.S. technique taught at the time. I used to tell my Marines there's no rush.. if it doesn't feel right, pull the rifle out of your shoulder and breathe.. there's plenty of time... That always seemed to do the trick.
Â
Semper fi!
 @swan  @Poisonous Giraffe Nah, he's just a poser who googled "how to pretend I was in the marines"
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-Economist Times must of changed because I never had a rifle expert card but I have my expert rifle metal that I had to earn every year. My service record shows that I could wear it along with other awards.
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @lakeview rofl, I take it you finally had the decency to delete your fake credentials after you realized how silly they looked. Lets see, a common male name with the last initial "S" after it, that's the best proof I've ever seen!Â
Â
Â
@Poisonous Giraffe Semper Fi VMFA-314 86-91 Carrying concealed in a purse is not the wisest choice, there are many other options that are much better. One thing I hear over and over from people who activly carry concealed is that they pay more attention to their surroundings and activly make themselves a less desirable target. While I am sure it is not true of everyone, it certainly is true of most of the people I know. In almost every concealled carry situation with a bad guy, they always have the upper hand as they know they are going to attack and who and if they are armed they are usually holding whatever weapon they are going to use. It comes with training on how to turn the advantage around.
 @lakeview  @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
Â
I'm not worried... He's just an immature troll. Good point on deleting it though... You never know what kind of gun-packing nutjobs are out there... :-)
 @lakeview  @Poisonous Giraffe No, it's hilarious to watch this guy drop farther and father into his lies, don't stop him, it must be some good stuff he's puffing.Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-Economist You should delete this. Who care what he says or thinks. It just doesn't matter. He's clearly making many new friends here and will have a long stay I'm sure.Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe ROFL, no last name but you bothered to post all the rest? You must be taking advantage of 502 already....
 @Poisonous Giraffe Google does amazing things, don't let me guess you also moonlight as a heart surgeon and physicist right? You're little temper tantrum about being "done with me" just shows how fake you are and what happens when someone calls you out.Â
 @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
Yeah... You're right... I thought "Mini Tours" would be a definition recognizable by the civilian population.
Â
But.. since you rightfully called me out on it, I'll refer to those times by it's rightful name: "TAD"
Â
So... enjoy the name-calling or whatever it is you're doing over there in front of your computer screen.. I'm done with you.
Â
Â
 @lakeview  @Poisonous Giraffe So much for ignoring me eh? Guess that liberal superiority only turns on randomly...
 @Poisonous Giraffe Mini-tours? HAHA, now I KNOW you're lying, by the way, I am the King of England and I declare I am always right...
Â
Funny how you posted a link about something which has nothing to do with your claim, and then just attempt to casually re-state your claim thinking I am going to buy your bogus credentials.
Â
You must have failed logic 101.
Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-Economist Thanks for finally putting this rude know it all in his place.Â
 @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
Â
...again, you're wrong. Not surprising as you know nothing about me. I served 12 years in the Marines and was a card-carrying rifle expert throughout my tours. (Military folks know what I am referring to. )
Â
I also spent several mini-tours as a range coach. My marines consistently shot expert with an average 80% expert qualification.
Â
In case you're wondering...
http://usmilitary.about.com/od/marinetrng/a/riflequalify.htm
Â
Lastly, most gun-carrying women I know carry them in their purses.
Â
So... "Making up facts" isn't really helping your case here...Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-Economist Giraffe, you are so right. Of course, that will go right over the heads of the "the armed citizen is always safe" party.
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @TheMadTurk Then it sounds like you're a darwin award waiting to happen, remember to give the thugs big hugs and maybe those cracked out criminals will let you live.Â
 @NW-Economist  @TheMadTurkÂ
Â
Crime has found us.. a few times.. and each time they got the drop... not us.
Â
I refuse to live in fear... or the Wild West...
Â
 @TheMadTurk  @Poisonous Giraffe What seems to go over your head is your false sense of safety, don;t worry, that will go out the window when crime eventually finds you and SPD doesn't magically appear to save the day.Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @NW-Economist I have to agree with with Poisonous Giraffe in this instance even though I'm licensed to carry and a 2nd Amendment Supporter. Goes to show that even a little bit of 'situation awareness' goes a long way. If you're caught off guard and someone grabs your purse, wallet, etc. and starts running away, lethal force at that point isn't warranted and basically illegal since your life and any one else's life is in no immediate danger.
 @lakeview  @Poisonous Giraffe  @Kermee It blows my mind how cluelues some people are thinking that their safety is the job of someone else.
Â
If more people were armed in general then these kinds of crimes wouldn't even happen here, or do you deny that there are cities and towns in America where purse-snatching is lower or does not exist at all?Â
 @Poisonous Giraffe  @Kermee  @NW-Economist Look how crowded that area is. It just blows my mind how clueless some of these people are with their wild wild west fantasies of shooting down bad guys.Â
Â
So what, we want her to pull out a gun as the guys are running away and start slinging bullets at their backs?
Â
She got blindsided! Ain't no defending that.Â
 @Kermee  @NW-EconomistÂ
Â
I'm also a 2nd amendment supporter although I don't carry and don't own any weapons.Â
Â
People get confused I think in believing that carrying or being armed is the end-all be-all solution to criminal activity. It's not.. By far it is not.
Â
