Police recover body of sailor missing 11 days in Lake Washington

SEATTLE -- Police have recovered the body of the 51-year-old Kenmore sailor who had been missing in Lake Washington since Jan. 11.

According to the Seattle Police Department, a Harbor Patrol Unit with the help of SeaBotix Inc. used sonar technology to scan two-thirds of a square mile of lake just off Magnuson Park, eventually finding the body under 165 feet of water Wednesday

The man was captaining the sailboat with three other men on board Jan. 11 when he fell overboard, according to police.

The Harbor Patrol, U.S. Coast Guard and a King County Marine Unit were unable to find the man in a search immediately after he fell overboard.

According to police, the search had been ongoing since then using new technology developed by SeaBotix, a company based in San Diego.
