Police shoot man suspected in overnight shooting

SEATTLE -- A Seattle police officer shot an armed man early Monday, and officials said the man was suspected in an earlier shooting.
The officer was not injured and the suspect was taken to Harborview Medical Center to be treated for multiple gunshot wounds.
Police spokesman Mark Jamieson said the incident began about 1:20 a.m. when a 34-year-old man was shot at an apartment in the 7900 block of Rainier Ave South.
Jamieson said the gunman asked for someone by name and when the victim came to the door he was shot at least twice.
The gunman ran off, and about 30 minutes later an officer spotted a man matching the gunman's description at Pritchard Island Beach.
Officials said the suspect refused to put his gun down, and the officer opened fire.
The 19-year-old man was hit by several shots and remains at Harborview Medical Center. His exact condition is not known, but officials say he is expected to survive. He'll be booked into jail once released from the hospital.
Detectives were expected to be on scene at Pritchard Beach Park through the morning while they collect evidence.
The victim in the first shooting was also being treated at Harborview for non-life-threatening injuries, and investigators were working to determine a motive for that attack.
The officer has been placed on paid administrative leave as is standard policy during any officer-involved shooting investigation.

What a surprise, Rainier Beach. Weekly occurance for the past few years.
Thanks to the officer, another cowardly gangster didn't have time to get away, as is usually the case.
I thought SPD now only carried water pistols and bags of candy, thanks to Barry's "DOJ" , the joke mayor McWuss and police chief of bake sales. I guess warm milk, cookies and hug just did not work. Best study it.
Â
Go SPD. Nut to your leadership, you need some with brass. The men and women forming the thin blue line are the real thing, not toothless kittens.
Â
Support them!
This looks to me like a dumping ground for used weapons right there by the water. A dive team ought to go there and checks for guns in the water. Why else would the scumbag go there?
Payback is a MF.
An obvious clue . . . Answering your front door at 1 a.m. = It's never good news.
Normally a peak thru a window is sufficient in most bad neighborhoods. Â
@Granny_MAC With the sound a 12ga pump loading.
Â
@greenecho or a snarling dog responding to the knock on the door does just fine. That's when I start pumping my shotgun and they are gone by the time that door opens. Strange how that happens.
Good shooting as that idiot kid dope was going to use that gun again since he didn't dump it and had it out ready to shoot.  A toast to the Officer.  A true gunslinger in the fine traditions of the west. Quick Draw McGraw.   Â
why is their always someone who blames gangs? I read nothing about gangs. You dont have to be in gang to shoot someone....
It's Rainier Beach. Kind of a no brainer since there is a shooting there once a week. Â
@ClickClackNW Totally unscientific correlation to why 'gangs' are the assumption....
Â
Â
Fact 1: It's 1:20 am, Rainier valley, someone comes to the door asking for someone. The dude actually comes to the door...at 1:20am. Don't know about your neighborhood, but in mine, anyone at my door at 1:20 am is immediately put into 'threat' category, not 'hey, someone wants to visit' category.
Â
Fact 2: The Perp opens fire, hits target 2 times and the wounds are non-life threatening. This screams Gang-banger. Poor marksmanship coupled wiht time of day...
Â
Fact 3: The perp's later refusal to put gun down while facing a police officer. What other segment of socienty, when faced with the authority of the police, refuses to follow lawful orders. OK, ill give you this one could be 'gang', or 'mentally disturbed'.
Â
I am not saying it's a duck, but if it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck...it's a duck.Â
Â
In this case, this all sure does sound like Gang/Drug based activity.
@ClickClackNW 1st of all look at the area it happened im. 9 out of 10 times if there is a shooting in that are it is gagn related. If I am proven wrong will be the first oen to say so!!
I dont say this often but thank you SPD.
Good job officer and thank you for doing a tough job. With all the media fabrications and DOJ BS I am thankful you didn't get killed due to hesitation on your part "thinking what will the DOJ or media think if I shoot"Â Â Â Â Some of us out here know that you have a split second to make life or death decisions and appreciate what a tough job you do have.
Â
Make no mistake about it , they know why the suspect was shot multiple times . So why
be evasive and vague about what happened ? On the surface it sounds like the officer did the
right thing , so simply state that with a simple explanation , Transparency right ??
Was this black on black violence? or do we now just say gang related?
I just hope he wasn't black or Latino. I see an excessive force lawsuit....
Oh darn another dead gang banger!!
Placing my $ on the officer that he did the right thing . . . job well done.
Glad the officer is ok......Why was the gate to the park open that late, inviting the "locals" to hang out there? It's bad enough during the day.
"Officials have not said exactly what happened next, but something prompted the officer to open fire at the armed man."
Â
Thank you, Captain Obvious.
Hey wait a second, this is SPD!! They can't shoot criminals!! That's excessive force!! This is outrageous!! The DOJ will not have any of this!! Why didn't the officer use other tactics!!?? Where are the civic leaders protesting this??!!
Glad the officer went home safe. Now the community (all of us) need to make it increasingly difficult for young men to choose violence.Â
