RENTON, Wash. - A woman was critically injured Saturday morning when a car hit her as she was walking or jogging in Renton, and now police are asking for the public's help in identifying her as she clings to life at Harborview Medical Center.
Officers found the woman lying in blackberry bushes alongside the roadway in the 4000 block of Lake Washington Boulevard at about 8:45 a.m. Saturday after responding to a report of a vehicle hitting a pedestrian.
The driver of the vehicle that hit the woman was arrested for investigation of vehicular assault, said Cmdr. David Leibman of the Renton police. The driver initially fled the scene, but then returned.
An investigation found that the victim was walking or jogging along the roadway just south of the Seahawks training camp when a car slammed into her, throwing her some 25 to 30 feet into blackberry bushes. Alcohol or excessive speed may have been factors in the crash, police said.
The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center, where she is unconscious and listed in critical condition.
Renton police are now asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the woman. She carried no identification, and mentioned her name was “Ros” or “Rose” or something similar before losing consciousness, Leibman said.
The victim is believed to be a white or light-skinned black female in her 30s or 40s. She was wearing light blue running shoes and white shorts at the time of the accident. Due to the severity of her injuries, a better description is not available, police said.
Police later provided photos of the woman's keychain, earpiece and shoes (shown above) in the hope that someone will recognize them.
The keychain, the most distinctive of the items, is a Criss Angel “Believe” Cirque du Soleil heart-shaped design.
Anyone who believes they know the identity of the victim is asked to call the Renton Police Department at (425) 430-7500 and refer to case 12-6831.
