Popular swim coach among those killed in Mt. Si plane crash
FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- One of the men killed in a small plane crash near North Bend Wednesday was a popular swim coach in Federal Way.
Students at Decatur High School held a moment of silence for coach Rob Hill Thursday morning.
Hill was just 30 years old and Decatur High students say was an awesome swim coach.
"I liked that he was always fun even if it was a hard practice," said sophomore Ashlyn Jones. "He always made it fun."
Hill coached both the girls and boys teams at Decatur.
"Right now we're sticking together as a family," said Dustin Owen. "It doesn't feel real to a lot of people."
Hill was flying with two other swim coaches when they went down near North Bend early Wednesday morning. Neighbors of the crash scene called 911 to say they heard a plane sputtering and then the plane's engine cut out.
Hill was a flight instructor at AccuWings, who said he was not working at the time of the crash. Workers there said they didn't just lose a co-worker, but a friend.
In addition to Thursday's moment of silence, the girls swim team also had special t-shirts made to honor the coach they now mourn.
"It wasn't easy to accept," Owen said. "So young."
