Disaster Dick Cheney in full effect. Gets paid again anytime ANY of our refineries blows up, leaks, or catches fire. Good gig, considering we are paying his monopoly on a never a bid necessary contract to prevent those very things. He also took almost half the BP Horizon cash right off the top, because while BP may have been the rigger, that underwater pipe is all Disaster Dick's. And don't forget how well we paid him to build a downtown New Orleans for himself while ignoring the devastation around him. Wonderful man; I really enjoyed working for him. Taught me a lot about the pure profit position of being responsible for tragedy.
We are being ripped off by the oil companies ! Why can't the Gov't do something to stop them ?????
Oh...I forgot...they all sleep together !!
Effing ridiculous.
Down to $0.18 in Venezuela today. Its much cheaper when the government controls the industry instead of the industry controlling the government.
@T_BONE_WALKER There is a dfifference between "cost" and "price."
That Venezulen gas is ubsidized by the State  means it "the cost" must be made up elsewhere.
There is also the opportunity cost. Venezuela could sell that gasoline at market prices abroad and then in turn spend that money to usher in a Statist Utopia!Â
@Sid Vishess I wonder what sector of their economy could possbly make up for a $3.90 subsidy then? It is pretty well established that the profits are turned back into medicine and education for the kids down there and poor senior citizens in the eastern US so I guess I am confused. And then, where is the extra $3.90 going in our economy then?
@Sid Vishess Venezuela donates heating oil to several U.S. states in the northeast that give that oil to poor American families. They do the same thing on a larger scale for poor Cubans.
Â
But it's fun to demonize isn't it...?Â
Â
The American government subsidizes oil in many ways, which shifts costs as well. The state of California which produces a lot of crude, subsidies the rest of the country with how they tax the crude that they produce.Â
Â
And btw, Venezuela does sell their oil at market price. We import a lot of it, almost as much as we import from Saudi Arabia.Â
@caphillkid I have always opposed special tax breaks or subsidies for any specific industry that isn't available to everybody else.
Our gas prices started to go up when the Chevron refinery fire in San Francisco happened about a month ago. The it was th hurricane a week ago. I was in California a week ago and gas was cheaper there. That fire was at a Chevron refinery that produced 16% of Chevron gas for the west coast yet all gas prices wwent up. Blaming the president is just silly. Bleme the corporate greed of the oil companies. They know we will complain yet we will never change our driving habits so they can get away with it. Congress will not stop them so the oil companies continue to rake in billions of dollars of profit every quarter.
Big Oil is secretly loved by Liberal Eco Nutz. Groups lie the Sierra Club are able to siphon off tons of Big Oil tax dollars under the guise of Enviro. They in turn use money to buy up more forests to make national parks out of which means the land becomes useless and nearly worthless for anything else - you can't build on it you can't drive on it you can't log it and IT STOPS CREATING MORE TAX REVENUE!!! Same reason these wackos are sitting out in the forests in the middle of the night listening for spotted owls ... find one owl and thousands of acres can be declared off limtis to anyting but a hiker...made useless and nearly worthless.
Â
Did you notice how little noise the Sierra Club make when they had that big oil spill in the gulf - just enough noise to make it sound like they cared.....
Â
When liberals start talking about all the FAILED Green projects then come talk to me about ho much you really hate Big Oil...and are willing to stop sucking on the Big Oil tax base that you raid regularly ...
Â
When did the Eco Terroroist ever allow a new refinery to be built...?
Â
And then our wonderfu Muslim Bro's OPEC - I sure thougth Barry woud bring his family around to his way of thinking ...
@Truth Percolates You prove day in and day out that we evolved from apes.
Thank you obama.Â
It doesn't matter whom you vote for, when it comes to oil prices. Big Oil will do what it wants, and no sitting president, in either party, can do anything about it.
@Audio Cat Then why not open up competition by allowing domestic resources to be opened up. The reason OPEC has so much power is that there is a monopoly.Â
@GeorgeG.That seems to be the question of the decade George.
@Audio Cat Yep,... just like the Big Banks do.... look how they continually thumb their nose at the government... via MERS..
@Audio Cat All the more reason to stop giving Big Oil tax breaks
Hey Maria Cantwell, what are you doing about this obviuos rip-off? Speak up Maria, I CANT-very-well hear you..I see, you are doing nothing about this! Well, its time we elect someone into office who has the spine to do something about this. The economy stinks because of this. Because the high price of gas gets passed on down the chain, and spread around to allmost everything we purchase, weather we drive or not. So those of you who say, I dont drive, so this doesn't affect me are not understanding how commerce works. Gas was $1.60 when Obummer took office, Now its $4.30. He hasn't done a blasted thing about it. Thanks Obummer!! What a guy! We the people will have our say come November, dont forget this..
I don't think the price of gas/fuel is even taken into consideration on the cost of living, yet, it affects everything.
Obama will not do anything to help reduce the price of gas, he wants us to become energy independent.. but, the economy says we need cheaper fuel.. and other fuels aren't as good for the environment,(coal), nor are the other sources available or reliable...that provides the same power that we can get from fossil fuels..
Wouldn't mind having an electric car, as long as it had a neuclear power plant in it to generate the power... the batteries are hell on the environment when they are dead... even with recycling..
@Brutalbubba Are you Republican? If so - free market economy; get over it - you can't have it both ways.
Whatever happened to Maria Cantwell's investigation of gas prices in Washington 2 months ago? What is the excuse now for the high price? Refinery shut down in California? Hurricane season? All BS.

@2nd Baseman Had too many DUI's and has to bike to work now.
@2nd Baseman You're just jealous because you don't have a tank to drive...LOL
Â
Cancel Christmas; oops forgot where I was at, I mean winter holidays.
But, they aren't gouging or setting prices... (!!! BS !!!!)
They have everyone over a barrel... and we will end up paying whatever they want for a gallon of gas.
They want the price of 5.00 a gallon... and they have been inching their way to it.. via speculators, and "futures"...
I hear that if elected Romney is  going to appoint an energy Secretary that publicly stated he wants gas prices to rise to European levels. Can you believe that guy! Only a Big Mean Republican would enable energy policies that are a de facto tax on the poor and middle class. Shame on Romney!
Â
Uh oh...
Â
Fact check time... again.
Â
Apparently... I got Romney and Obama confused.
Â
My apologies.
@Sid Vishess And let's not forget who manipulates world oil prices: O.P.E.C. The last time I checked there were no members from the United States on that groups rosters of members.
Â
Chavez loves Obama for his attack of big oil. It's making him and the Iranians a lot richer.
Considering changing my name to "Ben Dover". What a racket!
@d_2 Ben Dover....someone uses that for a screen name where I play Golden Tee.....
@Sydthepiper @d_2 @sid Vishess 3.42 here in Texas.Â
