Seattle-Portland rail line reopens after Amtrak derailment

WOODLAND, Wash. - Everything is back on schedule Thursday morning after an Amtrak train from Portland to Seattle derailed Wednesday night.
An Amtrak spokeswoman says the lead engine of an Amtrak Cascades train traveling from Portland to Seattle derailed just north of the Oregon border at about 7 p.m. Wednesday.
None of the 86 passengers on board were hurt, but people had to be bused to Seattle.
A Burlington Northern Santa Fe railway spokesman says the derailment blocked both main lines in a rail corridor used by more than 50 freight and passenger trains daily.
Also affected Wednesday night was a southbound Amtrak train headed from Seattle to Eugene, Ore. Hunter says that train stopped in Centralia and Amtrak was working to secure buses for its passengers.
Amtrak has not said why the train derailed.

Anyone heard why the train derailed? Seems like this would be a huge part of the story and it's missing.
We don't hear much about passenger train derailments. Â Interesting.

Glad to hear that nobody was hurt and that everyone made it to their destination safely. Â
