Recommendation on Kings sale expected Monday

Recommendation on Kings sale expected Monday
The countdown is on as decision day looms over the fate of the Sacramento Kings and whether or not NBA basketball will return to Seattle.

On Monday, the NBA relocation committee will give their recommendation--then it's all down to one last vote.

A simple phone call tomorrow will help determine if the Sonics will return to Seattle.

A committee of 12 NBA owners, will hold a teleconference about the sale of the Sacramento Kings.

They're expected to issue a recommendation and then the other owners have seven business days to decide.

For the deal to be done - it will need the approval of three-quarters of the NBA's team owners.

It's a sale that's pit city against city - millionaires against millionaires.

"We think we have all the elements in place for a play to win strategy," Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson said.

"Sometimes you have to lose something that you really hold precious and dear to really realize how much it means to you," said Chris Hansen, the Seattle investor who is trying to bring the NBA back to his hometown.

The battle between the two is something the NBA joint committee has been tackling since early April.

That's when both ownership groups presented their plans to buy the franchise and build new arenas for the team.

Right now the Kings belong to the Maloof family.

They've agreed to sell the team to Hansen for just more than $357 million dollars.

But it all comes down to the vote by NBA team owners.
