Record high temps set Sunday before heat advisory expires
Seattle set a record high temperature for the date Sunday, hours before a heat advisory was due to expire for the Puget Sound region, the National Weather Service says.
The mercury hit 93 degrees at Sea-Tac International Airport on Sunday, shattering the old record for the date of 89 degrees, set in 1977.
That equalled the maximum temperature from the day before, making Saturday and Sunday the hottest days since 2010.
Other cities in the Western Washington also recorded high temperatures again on Sunday, in the final hours of a two-day heat wave. The mercury hit 92 degrees in Bellevue, 91 at the Tacoma Narrows and 94 at Olympia.
Other high temperatures on Saturday weren't as impressive. The thermometer hit 88 in Shelton, 87 in Everett, 82 at Joint Base Lewis-McChord and 84 at Port Angeles.
On the coast, in Quillayute, the high was only 68 degrees - a huge difference from the 95-degree high there on Saturday.
The heat advisory for the Puget Sound region is set to expire at 8 p.m. Sunday.
Temperatures will cool off on Monday, as an onshore flow of marine air resumes. Daytime temperatures are expected to top out mainly in the mid 70s to lower 80s on Monday. Minimum temperatures tonight will also be cooler Sunday night, bringing relief to those without air conditioning.

It wasn't the heat so much as the humidity. It was so muggy, unless you were lucky enough to catch cool breezes in the mornings. Love Summer but not muggy days. Hope everyone stayed relatively cool.
I can't believe this, after all the complaining about the dreary weather we have had for 2 years that after 2 days everyone is complaining about being hot. This is crazy, it's summer finally.
Ah, cool westerly breezes in Aberdeen today after hitting 90 yesterday. Fog is rolling in and we will be back to our normal mid to high 60s for a while; hopefully until the normal becomes the 50s. Yep, hot weather wimp. (:
Temperatures cooling for the evening. That will feel good for sleeping tonight!
Whew. Â Looking forward to tomorrow, only in the 80s. Â
(Ducking now........)
@Doxie It's 95 here; we've been inside with the a/c on high the last few days. I've just gone out briefly in the early morning and late evening to move the water on our fruit trees and berries. I can't wait for the cooler weather so I can start to actually do things outside again (although I admit that I'm ready for a good snowstorm about now!)
@Silvia  @Doxie As you know, we're just down the road - and living a somewhat parallel life.  TG for AC.  My plums ripened and dropped before I could get to most of them!  I took a batch to the food bank on Tuesday and all the ones that were barely yellow then are past consumption now.  Oh well.
@Silvia  @Doxie Snow?  Haha!  I wouldn't go that far.  I just want to be able to sleep without worrying that any part of my body is touching any other part of my body.  Ugh!  Not quite ready for snow yet!
@Doxie I want snow! :-)
Â
We have a treadmill now so I can exercise on the stormy days without having the battle the storms when I walk. Soo - let the storms (wind, rain, snow, ice) begin!
Â
@Silvia  @Doxie Hang in there, I saw Halloween junk in the stores today, so that's a good sign for you of things to come!
@Doxie Yeah, I wondered how you were doing down there. I've about given up on berry season - just eating the blueberries straight off the bush rather than freezing them for winter. We have enough frozen anyhow, and I am *so* ready for fall weather. We have some young fruit trees and I have to give them extra TLC this first year, especially during the very hot weather. Ahh, well - hopefully we won't have any more of this weather this year. 70s are wonderful to me - for summer weather, that is.
Everyone stay hydrated! Be safe out there!
I said this yesterday and it bears repeating. Let this serve a reminder to everybody that we need to make sure we stay safe and don't take any unnecesarry chances in this hot weather. We've already had a near drowning in Lakewood and Lake Washington. Please be careful and stay safe.
Our weather station read 104 degrees in the hot sun on the wall it was mounted on yesterday. I actually used the air conditioning in our house yesterday. Probably 1 or 2 days a year that it ever gets used here in the Pacific Northwest!! Makes me glad this isnât the normal temperatures around here!!
Record high for August 5th less than 90 degrees? Time for that record to fall!
