Families escape apartment fire in Renton
Fire crews respond to an apartment fire in Renton, Wash. April 19, 2014.
RENTON, Wash. - Renton firefighters found an apartment fire overnight, despite 911 callers giving the wrong address.

Dispatch sent firefighters to McKnight Middle School, but fortunately crews spotted flames coming from the top floor of an apartment complex on 1300 Edmonds Avenue NE around 9 p.m.

"We drove to the school, and there was the building right across the street with obvious smoke and flames coming from it, and so it was very easy to see in the night," Battalion Chief Kevin Anderson said. "Showed like a beacon."

Residents got out safely, and firefighters contained the fire to one unit. The Red Cross arrived after the fire to help displaced families.

Investigators are looking into what caused the fire Sunday morning.
