BLACK DIAMOND, Wash. -- Search and rescue crews will be back out at the Green River on Friday morning to resume their search for a 22-year-old Kent woman who fell into river on Thursday.
Deputies first responded to a report of a woman in the river near Black Diamond just after 7 p.m., according to King County sheriff's spokeswoman Cindi West.
When crews arrived on scene, they learned that the woman and four others had been hiking near the river when the she fell. A man from the group tried to save her and he, too, fell in the river. That man was found and rescued a short time later, but the woman is still missing, according to Mark Konoske of the King County Sheriff's Office.
The man was treated at a local hospital for mild hypothermia.
"These rivers around here are extremely cold, and the realization oftentimes isn't there that you can spent a very limited time in this water without turning hypothermic," Konoske said.
Konoske said the woman was last seen wearing black pants, a grey shirt and a pink backpack.
