School: Frustrated parent posts alarming Facebook message

CAMAS, Wash. - Frustrated after a Tuesday basketball game between the Camas and Skyview boys teams, a parent posted a message on Facebook, saying “I hope someone shoots up the (Camas) school real soon.”
Notified by the school, police are now investigating the parent, officials said Wednesday.
The man, identified as a parent of a Skyview High School player, posted the Facebook status update sometime after the Tuesday evening game.
The post followed a confrontation between the man and a group of students as he was leaving the gym, said Josh Gibson, Camas School District’s athletic director.
“He flipped kids off. He had some negative reaction” about the game, Gibson said. “Exactly what is said, we don’t know.”
After the game, when most of the players were outside or in the locker room, a parent showed Gibson the post on a phone.
The post said: “Camas fans!!!!! Worst in the league!!!!! I hope someone shoots up their school real soon!!!!!!!!”
Gibson said Camas police, Vancouver Public Schools and the Clark County Sheriff’s Office are all taking part in deciding how to best handle the situation.
Deputies interviewed the man and his son on Wednesday and they both gave statements, said Clark County sheriff's Sgt. Fred Neiman.
It’s not yet clear if the parent will face any charges.
Neiman said he anticipates some type of action would be taken.
"We in law enforcement cannot afford to ignore them," Neiman said regarding references to shootings.
Gibson said the situation was especially alarming in light of the recent shootings across the nation.
“I think when you look at the things that have been going on recently with shootings, I think that it’s just unfortunate that a comment like that is thrown out,” he said. “There’s an emotional response to it.”
Regardless of how your position on gun rights in this country, this kind of posting is inexcusable, and should be prosecuted.
Here is a case of someone too stupid to be allowed to have kids.
Looks like someone gave him a thumbs up for it as well if I see correctly. There are more of the same type of moron as this one out there.
I think he is already a Felon.Court: Clark Superior Case Number: 09-1-02017-5, plus several other disturbing charges including an Order for Protection. Jeff Berni is no stranger to crime.Â
I pity his wife, children and his neighbors.Â
@Valerie McCrumb Merkes I pitty the tax payers who are going to be supporting him and his offspring.
Wow. What a freaking idiot.
another great example of the excellent parenting going on these days.
He should get some jail time and also a mandatory anger management class. One of these days he might loose it and act out his violent notions.
Wow - this guy gives dangerous morons a bad name!
"There's nothing more dangerous than a resourceful idiot.â - Scott Adams
No surprise here. As an Ex Little League umpire I was never concerned about the kids. The parents were a different story.
And the question often asked is whats wrong with many of todays youths...this is the answer!!
Wow, that was stupid. Â A few other things as well, but pretty stupid.
Â
Isn't Camas the place where that woman was hanging an Obama chair in her yard?Â
Â
Â
Idiot hothead. Thank goodness he didn't have a gun, sounds like the kind of nutter that might have used it.
@Howard Beale Where does it say he didn't (or doesn't) have a gun?
They should have him make copies of this sign while he's in jail:

You should be required to pass a class in social media if over the age of 40 and an IQ test if under...There are some pathetic people out there
Lack of judgement is one thing but when you have stupid and internet access this is the result!
Â
Stupid is as stupid does. The one standing to learn the most here is his son.
This jackass put the "S" in stupid. Thre was a time when you could expect most parents to be mature and keep things in perspective.
@George Steele I agree with you totally .This is what happens when kids are raised by kids. Â
and where did it say the dad is or was a kid? Why would you turn this into a teen parent thing?
@mrsjedtaylor I don't think Seahawker was implying that this is a teen parent thing other than the fact that the parent has the intellegence level of a teen.
The epitome of Trailer Trash!
Â
This A** Clown should do time for that.. This is not something that anyone should take lightly. Its guys like this that are slowly giving our government more ammo to take away our civil rights and our liberties.
The worst part of parenting is having to deal with the other parents... sadly, I've met plenty like this guy. Most don't go over the line to suggest a massive act of violence, but I imagine it only takes one lost game for an unstable person like this to lose all common sense.
And we wonder why kids or young adults end up mentally unstable and shoot up schools. Â Is it the guns? Â Or maybe it's the parents and upbringing that messes these kids up. Â
Â
Now this guy has kid(s) that are being influenced by his behavior. Â And I'll bet he's telling them that his actions weren't wrong, that it's ok to get mad and say or do whatever you want. Â And the seed is planted.
Just plain stupid to post something like that.
I think "unfortunate" is an understatement. Shows total lack of judgement and impulse control as an adult.
@Thunder I'm with ya. This is nothing more than a child raising a child.
Sometimes the adults are far worse on Facebook than the kids. It used to be you had to be careful what you put into writing. Nowadays, so many people act like 2 year olds on a temper tantrum. No self-control.
Umm yaa....I don't even know what to say to that. There are so many things wrong with that person on so many levels one doesn't know where to start. I hope his child doesn't lack the same sportsmanship and have the same anger issues as his father.
One more reason Facebook isn't needed.
@Seahawker I think Facebook is a blessing. So many people have used it to broadcast to the world, "I am a complete idiot".Â
Â
The more you know....
lots of things are not NEEDED. Alcohol, pot, football, pro sports, coffee, candy recreational sex, gay sex, internet, tv, furniture, windows, artwork, computers, on and on and on.
So what was your point? so you don't like facebook. good for you.
@Seahawker So are you suggesting that facebook be banned perhaps?Â
I never said that. I merely said "Facebook isn't needed".  I never said or suggested that  "Facebook should be banned".  "He" should be banned from Facebook for life for making a comment like that, Yes.
Â
I personally don't have a Facebook page nor will I ever have a Facebook page simply because my friends and I prefer to communicate face to face and meet up to socialize rather than "posting comments and statements" to communicate our thoughts.  Look at  where this guys social comments landed him. Facebook needs to police it's site more and ban for life and remove any user or IP address that makes comments like this.
Â
This is way beyond "Freedom of Speech" and was totally unnecessary.Â
What a horrible example to set for your kids -- there is absolutely NO EXCUSE for it! I cannot believe a parent would get so upset over some stupid game to not only "flip them off", but to imply that the death of the kids at the school that won deserve to be shot up and killed. That parent's name and picture should be plastered everywhere so he can suffer some serious public humiliation. He should be banned from all school events from this point on. Personally, I'd like to see him get some jail time and mandatory anger management and counseling. Child Protective Services should also take a good long look at what happens at that house. If this is the way he behaves publically, I'm afraid it is probably worse behind closed doors.
@The WA Mama Jail time for what?
@jowsuf Bullying and threatening minors.
@jowsuf I believe in first amendment rights, and I do agree that people do get their panties in a bunch sometimes over the most trivial things. In this case though, I think that this went way beyond spouting words. Put it this way, what if someone posted on Facebook or stated publically that your house should be shot up? I know as an adult that would freak the hell out of me. I can't even imagine what reaction it can do to a kid, especially with them being even more hypersensative because of recent events,
@The WA Mama I'm not defending him, I'm defending his first amendment rights. We don't get to pick and choose who gets their rights based on how emotionally upset we feel about their behavior.Â
@jowsuf Implied threat ... why in the hell are you defending this loser? There is no defending that pos.
@The WA Mama  @jowsuf He didn't make any threats, and it isn't illegal to flip someone off.
So not worth the coverage.
@Brokesince08 It's got nearly 93 comments. I can see why it got coverage.Â
@justsaying  @Brokesince08 They're just cashing in on everyone's emotionally charged paranoia. Panic sells.
If there was a jail sentence for lipping off in bad taste this guy sure needs it. While there he could take some time to figure out some common sense guidelines.
As dumb and immature as his comments were, "hoping" for something is not a crime no matter how bad that something is. Â It's right there in the Bill of Rights.Â
@The206 I agree with The206, âhopingâ is not a crime. That is why I hope that the hothead gets lost in a snowstorm during a blizzard, they find him too late, and he had great life insurance.Â
@The206 Agreed. What he said was in very bad taste, but I don't know that what he said is criminal.
