Winter sports camp owner killed by falling snow
LEAVENWORTH, Wash. -- The owner of a winter sports camp was killed Saturday by snow that fell from an overloaded tree, according to police.
Chelan County Sheriff's Office Sgt. Kent Sisson said the body of Don Hansen was found Sunday morning after he was reported missing.
Hansen, who owned Scottish Lakes High Camp, was last seen Saturday afternoon with a backcountry ski group.
He told the group he was heading out to mark a trail and did not return.
Sisson said other workers at the camp found Hansen's body a few hours later about 100 yards from the camp.
Sisson said the camp, which is located west of Leavenworth, is several miles up the hills from Highway 2 and guests must snowmobile to the area this time of year.

@komonewsradio @komonews Thankyou Don, you're the best ! http://t.co/DP0444hhKC
Thankyou Don, you sweet, sweet man. Thankyou for everything !!
I met Don briefly on a couple of outings at Scottish Lakes High Camp. He was the type of man who would literally give you the shirt off his back. About one year ago, I discovered that my boots had dry-rotted. Don lent me his own boots to go snowshoeing in. It was an honor to have met Don Hanson, even if just briefly.
Ironic.
Really sad... who would have thought about snow from a tree...Â
My condolances to his family, and friends... At least, he went out doing what he enjoyed doing... and not in some hospital or nursing home... even that doesn't help with the loss of a family member or friend though..
@komonews sad my best wishes to his famiy.
