Missing Olympia infant found safe

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- The 10-day-old infant girl who disappeared with her parents has been found safe.
The girl was believed to be with her parents, but was scheduled to be removed from their care by Child Protective Services.
The child's parents, Karen Lewis and Jack Short, have no fixed address and failed to bring the girl to a scheduled doctor's visit Friday afternoon, according to police.
She was found approximately an hour later. Police said the girl was found safe, but did not provide any additional information.

I unfortunately know these 2 from a history I wont go into. Daddy is a drug dealer and momma was a good person who got caught up in the wrong crowd. They dont have a perm address since jack deals - Plain simple cut and dry. Karen has another daughter but she now lives with her dad. Its a messed up sit and dshs has all rights to step in.
Did it ever occur to all you armchair quarterbacks that DSHS can't legally share all the information they have to the press? There are privacy laws to consider in regards to this family.
Usually when CPS has a plan to take a baby away from a mother and is merely awaiting the baby's birth, it is a drug issue. There are women who have to take drug tests while pregnant due to either an accusation of drug use (real or false accusation), a documented history of drug use or other crimes,or something along those lines. I do not think this is going to turn out to be just because they are homeless. CPS doesn't go out of it's way to interact with the homeless. There is a possibility that this woman has other children and was already known to CPS. If a woman is homeless and pregnant, and not committing crimes, she is far more likely to seek and obtain some form of assistance. A pregnant woman with a drug problem knows her child will probably be taken from her, and chances are she doesn't bother with prenatal care, let alone seek help with housing.Â
Its a bad time to be brown and its a bad time to be homeless. Its getting so that its safer to live in Mexico or Afghanistan than it is here. Thomas Jefferson must be rolling over in his grave daily seeing what we've become.
 @Blindman It's just a bad time to be poor or out of work or any of that too, but I really think you're misreading this story. It is very unlikely that the child is being removed from their custody due to homelessness. It is far more likely that the mother tested positive for drug use while pregnant. That's almost always why a baby so young is removed from a parent or parents.
 @two loons  @Blindman Blindman hasn't learned to read, and feels that he knows everything...just ignore him he is a under the misguided impression that he is perfect.
Why such vague information? If you are removing the child just because the family is homeless, that is bs. If there are other factors involved then why are they not releasing the information?
 @Tattooed_Angel Safe to say there are a lot of details left out of this story.
The law won't get any help unless they dislose the circumstances for wanting the parents or the child. Are they drug addicts? Are they pedophilia's? What????Until this is done, the child is best with the mother and father.
Exactly @heyjoe
If the kid is with both parents its going to be as safe as it ever gets. No evidence of the parents being a threat. If you see them warn them the nazi's are after them. They will need to hire an attorney which I imagine they probably can't afford to protect themselves from a government agency run amok.
That plate number is not correct...should be a letter at the end.
@realdeal599 Its probably a G not a 6
Umm a little context would be good, why are they taking the baby away, was it abused, is it because their homeless? What?
The mother looks like casey anthony someone save the kid.
So I take it it's not enough to spark an Amber Alert?
It does seem kind of strange, seems like their only problem is they don't have a set address and missed a Drs appointment which sounds like CPS was waiting to pick the baby at? I understand that CPS is there to protect children, but sometimes I think that the government is getting too powerful and pushing their expectations on everyone else. The couple needs help if they are homeless, not their baby taken away. I would like to know more.
 @PSTLC5 I would bet money that the baby tested positive for drugs at birth due to the mother's use of drugs during pregnancy.
 @PSTLC5 When that baby ends up dead, you might want to recant your statements.  Most likely it is not because the couple is homeless, it's because drugs were involved.  Even if it was because they are "just' homeless, no one should be homeless and have a 10 month old baby.  Babies need a home, a loving home to go home to not a chaotic lifestyle.  I just had a baby 3 weeks ago and it's hard for me in my home I can't imagine having to deal with being homeless and caring for a child, it's too much for anyone.  I do feel for these people and their circumstances but there is obviously cause for concern.
 @keri555  @PSTLC5 So if your circumstances were to suddenly change and you became homeless you'd be OK with CPS taking your child? Not me.
 @Ned  @keri555  @PSTLC5 No. I would not. But this story must have been edited a bit since you all started reacting this way and all formed the impression that this child is being taken simply because the parents are homeless. That is not the reason. CPS takes newborns away from their parents when newborns test positive for drugs.
 @keri555  @PSTLC5 The baby is 10 days old, not 10 months.
Why isn't there an Amber Alert sent out. The police are looking for them; not just CPS and if they had a scheduled Dr. appointment, it seems that maybe the Dr. also believes something is askew. In the case of your niece, Blindman, the hospital screwed up the test not CPS, and therefore CPS was doing their job after the hospital called them. Put the blame where it lies. (CPS didn't check the placenta, the hospital did}
The CPA should have ordered a confirmation test. Thats all it took and I ended up having to pay for it. There is no reason the CPS should have terrorized my niece in this manner without getting the facts first. @Junelle Kaylor
 @Junelle Kaylor There should have been more than one test done before CPS agreed to come in and take a child maybe? I don't envy the people that have to do the job, and I hope that they help more than they hurt of course. But if they are putting it out on the news for this couple maybe say they are suspected criminals if that is the case? Wouldn't the Police be involved if CPS said they needed to be? Anyway, I know I don't have all the facts, just voicing my opinion.
I wouldn't turn them in unless I knew the circumstances of why CPS wants to take their baby away. The CPS has a terrible history. They even tried to take my nieces son away right after she gave birth. They said the placenta had tested postive for drugs and I knew it wasn't true. Ended up paying for another GC/MS confirmation test and it showed she was completely clean. A terrible thing to do to a brand new mother. CPS should be defunded.
 @Blindman So you think that defunding an already defunded agency will make them better and protect the children better?  Tell me why CPS was even testing your niece's sons placenta?
I agree that CPS needs to be improved, but to cut their funds is not the way to do that.Â
They test every womans placenta for illegal drugs. A complete violation of the 4th Amendment. But thats just the nature of when you live in the land of tyranny. CPS employees are over paid just as all state employees are. If you don't believe me got the the state employement web site and look up the prevailing wage  rates for whatever job you do. I think people would be amazed if they just took 5 minutes to do that. @rockguy
 @Blindman  @rockguyBlindman, you have now made a couple of points I am interested in. I did not know that every placenta is tested, and will research that. If it is the case, then there is validity to what you say regarding the 4th amendment. I also think that more than one test should be required. I do hope this works out for the best,whatever that may be, and I am sorry you and your family are suffering.
 @Blindman  @rockguy As a woman who has from what you say had my placenta tested 4 times, if you are doing drugs and pregnant you have no right to your child.  You can stand up for the 4th Amendment rights of druggies if you like but who stands up for the small child they abused in the womb and most likely will neglect because they are high or absent?
 @Blindman Yep they accused a friend of mine of molesting his daughter, even his daughters mother disputed this, no evidence nothing, in the end he was exonerated after years of only having supervised visitation. I'm not going to turn someone in with out knowing why.
 @Blindman most ignorant comment of the day.  congrats.Â
 @DT Yep yours is.
