PORT ANGELES, Wash. -- A Mountlake Terrace hiker who was missing in Olympic National Park has been located and is safe.

Tim Bailey, 32, had planned a three-day loop hike from the Aurora Ridge trail head to the North Fork of the Sol Duc last weekend. He left on Friday, but was reported missing by his wife Sunday evening. Bailey's car was found at the Aurora Ridge trail head Monday morning.

Wednesday, searchers on the ground heard gun shots and directed a search helicopter to check it out. The helicopter confirmed it was Bailey.

Search teams reached the hiker and found he was alert and in good spirits, but had suffered an ankle injury. They are now working with the Coast Guard to hoist him out to safety.
