Seattle Mayor McGinn is running for re-election

SEATTLE (AP) - Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn is officially running for a second term.
The mayor announced his campaign at a Wednesday afternoon news conference. McGinn, a former Sierra Club leader, was first elected in 2009.
While he alienated some with his opposition to the tunnel replacement for the Alaskan Way Viaduct, the mayor gained allies in minority communities.
He also scored points for helping to negotiate a deal with private investors to build a new sports arena in an attempt to bring the NBA back to Seattle following the departure of the Sonics to Oklahoma City.
McGinn said he would emphasize education, transportation and neighborhood safety in the upcoming campaign. Several high-profile candidates have already announced they'll challenge the incumbent, including state Sen. Ed Murray, City Councilman Tim Burgess and former City Councilman Peter Steinbrueck.

Every election in Seattle reminds of Southpark season 8 episode 8 (Douche vs Turd). Not much of a choice.Â
Seattle tax payers deserve a much better mayor than what we have today. He has a terrible track record at the expense of the voters. He has been out of touch with seattle citizens since he came to office.
Â
Ask yourself, Is Seattle a safer, less expensive place to to live since he came into office? I know my answer is NO...Â
Wanna bet Cascade Bicycle Club supports him because of giving one of their own a (over payed) job and pushing their agenda?
Â
Sadly, he'll win because around here we have short-term memory loss.
He should be re-elected. His progressive idiocy is right in line with most Seattle-ites. You get the government you deserve.
Nickels is starting to look pretty good right now.
I don't think liberals are even going to support him.
Bwhahaha - good luck with that
Though I don't reside within Seattle city limits, this guys seems to draw a ton of controversy...certainly much more than Nickels ever did. In all seriousness... I wonder what the odds are he gets re-elected?
@skepticaloptimist A lot of space between his ears.
I don't live in Seattle so I can only beg, beg on my hands and knees, PLEASE don't vote for this fool! Send him a message that he needs to pack up and quit politics.
He is one of the main reasons I steer clear of Seattle, the rest of the reasons is the people that vote for assclowns like him.
After reading about his gun trade in deal, the one that, if you think real hard now,,,, encourages people to steal a gun and get a $100 gift certificate from Amazon, no questions asked, I just about lost my mind with disbelief. And that was just one of his daily screw ups. This guy has no idea.
But, I know I waste my typing time, becasue you Seattle people will either vote for him or someone even worse. I know,,,, you just can't help it.
This guy does live in his own little fantasy world, doesn't he?
I like cupcakes.
Anyone who votes for McGinn is a freaking idiot.
@Tattooed_Angel I might move to Seattle just so I can vote against him and then move back out.
@Ankle Biter  @Tattooed_Angel You don't want to do that Ankle Biter......the dripping, oozing, holier than thou liberal mentality might corrupt your soul, and next thing you know, you'll be signing "Obama for a third term" petitions, growing dreadlocks, and trading your food stamps for crack on the street corner. Go to a REPUTABLE city like Chicago, or D.C. where your odds of being killed by gunfire are increased 100 fold.....thus SAVING you from becoming a mindless sheep.  :)
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOoo
Just like with Obama supporters, the "gimme" crowd will be more than willing to give ol McSchwinn another shot. No worries America......the lazy, shiftless, "gimme gimme gimme" crowd is alive, well, on welfare, and BREEDING more voters as you read this post. (bigger checks) It use to be "God Bless America," NOW, it's "God Help what's LEFT of America"
Oh crap. I just realized I used the word "God" in a post......in Seattle.........oh well, DEAL with it.
I have no doubt Seattle will keep these comedy acts coming election after election, hell it wouldn't be Washington without the political freak show.Â
He's bought enough votes with taxpayer money so he should be a shoo in. Schmoo in? By 2017 seattle should be car free without a penalty for smoking mary while on your bike.
even in seattle i don't think he has a shot at being re-elected.
If we ignore him maybe he will go away.
@Ankle Biter We cant afford to ignore him but I really hope he DOES go away!
This is surprising. I thought he could feel the hate from his office.
@Grumpa Not if you're a narcissist - it all feels like love...
If the idiots of Seattle don't re-elect him, they'll just find another fat slob who panders to the liberals.
If you want to see how angry, whiny, and rather ignorant the average conservative voter is, read the comments below mine.Â
@lakeview The Seahawks are going to win this weekend.Â
@Fantastico Something positive that I can agree with! G0 HAWKS!!!!!
@lakeview You probably own your computer because of MY tax dollars. You LOVE Obama, you NEED Obama, you WORSHIP Obama........(AND all of his ilk....like Gregoire, McSchwinn, Pelosi)......rest easy my mindless little sheep friend, your "gimme" friends have your back.
@lakeview If you want to see how angry, whiny, and rather ignorant the average liberal voter is, read the comment above mine. Ahh, I love the convenience of CTRL C, and CTRL V... along with a couple little tweaks.
Oh mercy - if you all vote for Mayor McSchwinn again you're a bunch of idiots.
@JusticeSeeker But you realize, of course, that that is not out of the realm of possibility for Seattle. After all, if they vote the way they did four years ago, they're going to get four MORE years of the same consequences. DUH?????
He will not get my vote. No way.
Remember Seattlites--Â you get what you vote for.
@Veteran Not just Seattlites.......Americans! BEHOLD the results of your actions. :)
 @VeteranÂ
they deserve what they get.. They'll take another bite out from that turd sandwich for sure...
Never count out Seattle voters when it comes to electing idiotsÂ
I will never vote for a man who rides a girls bike!!!
Wow. Â Can't imagine that he thinks he has a chance of being re-elected. Â I didn't vote for him in the first place, and when he had a totem pole put up for an aggressive homeless John "Trouble" Williams, I decided he never would get my vote. Â Add on him giving his bike friends jobs they aren't qualified for, and making the city of Seattle impossible to drive into and he will never get my vote. Â
I hope his fat a@@ will just pedal his way out of the city.Â
@KRM66 For all your stated reasons above, PLUS his anti-business/commerce, pay parking for every square inch, I have not entered Seattle city limits more than four times in the past four years from the proximal east side. And, I would never, never consider actually living there. THAT, Seattle-ites, is what your beloved mayor has done for your city......all at the cost of your individual taxation and unrelenting fees structures and gimmicks he comes up with.
Â
Re-elect this bozo, and continue getting sucked dry from his outrageous, crazy, self-serving political tactics.
Given Seattles penchant for voting for insanity; He'll win in a landslide.
I heard about this on KOMO 1000 radio -- as I was literally dodging BIG potholes on I-5, near the U district. All I have to say is -- NO more potholes! NO more deteriorating streets and bridges! NO more confusing bicycle graffiti painted all over our streets! NO more corruption and waste permeating our city government! NO MORE McGINN!! (Anyone who has similar feelings might enjoy the "Recall Mayor Mike McGinn" facebook page, where I'm sure plans are already being made to fight his campaign at every opportunity.
@grmnshepherdess Around the same time my vehicle was being destroyed, one pothole at a time on Capitol Hill's 10th ave and right around the corner from KOMO's tower on Queen Ann.
@grmnshepherdess McGinn has nothing to do with potholes on I-5.
Oi, Get someone in there that can undo the "Road Diet".
Run, Run very fast and very far, far away. Justice might be blind but the people of Seattle can see much better now.
I loved how he used to have his driver drop him a few blocks away from a speaking event and he would ride his bike in. Giving the illusion he was riding around town and practicing what he preaches.
nope.
Good luck ya idiot.
