Seattle flag flies proudly over D.C. after Seahawks win

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The official flag of Seattle is flying proudly above Washington, D.C., thanks to a bet between the cities’ mayors on Sunday’s Seahawks-Redskins playoff game.
District of Columbia Mayor Vincent Gray was confident last week that he’d win his wager with Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn, even though Gray had to fly another city’s flag as recently as October, when the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Washington Nationals in the MLB playoffs.
But obviously, things didn’t turn out so well for the other Washington. The Seahawks beat the Redskins 24-14 on Sunday and McGinn won his bet with Gray.
As a result, the Emerald City's flag has been raised - for one day - over D.C.’s John A. Wilson Building. The Wilson building houses the executive offices and council chambers of the District of Columbia.
If the Seahawks had lost, a D.C. banner exclaiming “Taxation Without Representation” would have flown over Seattle City Hall for a day, DCist reports.

they should be ashamed of them selves what the hell... A bullshiter we need to call them out.!!!
Are you kidding me? Where's the 12th Man Flag??????!!!!!
@Kathy I think this stinks and they need to put up a real flag! 12 man this should have been stated the figures he would lie his way out of it
Half mast coming soon.
So, we would have had to hang a political banner if we lost, and the only thing that Mayor McCheese could think of was a useless city flag?
Ya know, the Seattle flag bears a resemblance to the Washington Redskin's emblem - just different colors. So who won here?
SO lame! I remember hearing somewhere that it was to be the 12th Man flag. The city flag doesn't even come close to the same impact, nor the impact you would want and expect after winning a bet.LAME.
@Aros Normally, governors bet an exchange of state exports... but betting salmon versus crack would look bad in the press....
@svensson hahahaha...nice! Thanks for the chuckle :)
@swansong68 I'll be here all week... Try the veal! :)
I'm surprised they didn't have a King county flag flown with the image of MLK on it...who had nothing to do with King county...
 @Doloresdecabeza I'm surprised that we didn't send them a rainbow flag.
 @Ankle Biter William Rufus King was suspected as being President Buchanan's "special" friend...
 @Doloresdecabeza The county was named AFTER him. King County. So that is why he is on there.
 @Justmyside83  @DoloresdecabezaÂ
Â
You are silly to not do your research on the naming of King County. Â Read about it. Â It was not MLK that resulted in the name King County. Â Don't be so ignorant.
@Birdsvieman Here's an idea, everyone should start calling it *William Rufus King's* County every time we refer to it. Wouldn't that just drive the revisionists nuts? :))
I'm sorry but King county was originally named after William Rufus King

Â
@Justmyside83 @Doloresdecabeza Um, no it wasn't. King County was originally named after William Rufus King, the Vice President under Franklin Pierce. The King County Council decided in 1986 to change it to MLK [who spent less than 48 hours in Washington, ever]. Folks seem to object to William Rufus King being a slave owner, even though he favored doing away with slavery.
Â
Just another inconvenient historical rewrite by Imperial Seattle and the People's Republic of King County.

Pretty Cool.
What is this crap? Â It should have been a 12th man flag!! Â
That flag just REEKS of marijuana!
It looks like an awful tribal tattoo...
Headline should read: Ugly Seattle Flag Flown over DC. Looks like someone pulled something out of the trash bin.
@ObsidianOne Or just imposed Chief Sealth over their grandmother's couch fabric....
Not sure why they chose the city flag..hardly anybody knows what it looks like anyway, so people in DC won't even notice it. Why wasn't the bet to fly the Seahawks or Redskins flags instead?
I've never seen the Seattle flag and I am from here... I always thought it was the big 12 on the space needle
@Northriver As well is should be! :)
Seattle has an official flag? Â Huh, you learn something new every day.
 @Doxie Who knew huh?
 @Ankle Biter Looks like it got lifted off a Starbucks cup.......
Go Seahawks!
The Seattle flag is a little lame. It should have been a 12th man flag instead. Go Seahawks!
 @downtown I was thinking the same thing. And... it should have been raised by Shanahan while broadcast on local television.Â
@d_2 @downtown Nah, it should have been raised by Jim Zorn in the ultimate, um, 'middle finger revenge gesture'... lol!
