SEATTLE - Authorities say a Seattle police officer shot a 20-year-old man at the scene of a reported burglary in the Mount Baker neighborhood early Saturday.

Police say they were responding to a burglary in progress in the 4000 block of 39th Avenue South around 1:30 a.m., after a 911 caller saw several people with flashlights and crowbars entering a house.

After surrounding the home, officers arrested two men. A third man ignored commands from an officer, jumped from the roof and started fighting with that officer. During the struggle, the officer fired his weapon, hitting the suspect.

"Our force investigation team, they are here, along with our Office of Professional Accountability, and Chief O'Toole, are here to learn more about what's happening throughout this investigation, and make sure all the right questions are answered," Assistant Chief Nicholas Metz said.

Police say both the officer and the man who was shot were taken to Harborview Medical Center, where the man was reported in serious condition.

The officer had minor injuries and was released from the hospital.

The two other men were booked into King County Jail for investigation of residential burglary.
