Seattle woman believes God saved her from burglar
SEATTLE -- A South Seattle woman believes divine intervention saved her when a burglar snuck into her home while she was deep in prayer, according to the Seattle Police Department.
According to the police report for the incident, the woman was kneeling on her kitchen floor in prayer Feb. 19 when she felt someone grab her hair from behind.
She later told officers she thought it was her husband playing a joke on her, so she continued praying.
According to the report, the hand let go of her hair, and she turned around to see an unknown man standing in her kitchen.
She told officers she yelled out, "Lord help me," and the man fell back, hitting his head on the fridge.
According to the report, the man stumbled out of the house, and the victim saw him get into a white mid-90s Cadillac with another man behind the wheel and drive off.
The victim told officers the burglar never said a word to her and only took a $20 bill that had been sitting on the table.
According to the report, the victim firmly believes God saved her, so she didn't bother calling police to report the crime.
But, her husband did end up calling the police a week later when a white Acura pulled into their driveway, turned around and left.
He told officers he was worried by the Acura because of the burglary the week before.
i think this is a great story. the woman and the burglar both found faith in the same moment. now this woman will die happy thinking God helped her in this one instance.
@vexnews Smitten.
Oh wtf ever.
Why didn't she report it then? Sounds like a crock to me.
@Tattooed_Angel2Â When your thankful for gods work, you don't go and stir the pot. You trust his work.
@Just my say @Tattooed_Angel2 So... if god saved her, than god also put the guy in her home and motivated him to grab her by the hair... Does god select murder victims and children to be molested or does he just spend his time saving a few people here and there while others are ignored?
@Sugar @what? @Just my say @Tattooed_Angel2 Â
You religious fools never cease to make me laugh at your pathetic inability to see the world for what it is. Ignorance is bliss, eh?Â
@what? @Just my say @Tattooed_Angel2 Â
Of course God only picks those whom He would save. God can do ANYTHING. He can let you die or he can turn you into a genius. He created yesterday, now, and tomorrow as well as all the other parallel universes that might be there. What's the point of Godhood if you have to follow strict rules like "Save all who submit to you!" or "Defeat evil who punishes the good!"? Godhood means being able to do whatever you want, whenever you want, and being able to get away with it.
@what? @Just my say @Tattooed_Angel2 Lol.  Behold the unifying characteristic of all atheists.  Bitterness.  You can't just be happy for the woman, let her have her beliefs and leave it alone.  Always having to shit on the beliefs of others that don't match your own.  Typical nature of the unhappy, mixed-up, confused-about-everything atheist.
I'm agnostic, but that sounds pretty legit to me.
@skullcrusher I'm athiest and it sound like BS to me.
Its amazing how many people dont believe. But if you dont, thats your business, but to mock people that do?? Where do you get the right to criticize a person that does believe???
@Busyhands The whole point behind this article was that God has saved her from a burglar. The logical debate that proceeds is whether a god had anything to do with this minor event is now the point of discussion. Tough for you that you don't like people voicing their disbelief.
I love fantasies. However, when people bring their gods into my schools, government and public, I find myself getting "caustic," "sarcastic," "bitter," to name a few adjectives the Christians fling at me.
@Papio I've got news for you Papio. It is my schools, my government, and my public too.Â
Your one sided remarks on this thread haven't gone unnoticed - you've been one of the biggest perpetrators of spreading sarcasm and yet you again claim there is some logical point you are making.
You give absolutely no reason why anyone should believe there isn't a god. This story gives a great reason why there might possibly be, for those who choose to believe.
Put up or shut up. If you have a so-called point of debate, lay it on the table.Â
Believe what you will - I believe in God, as do most Americans. Perhaps you should reread the comments again and you'll see where I am coming from.Â
@Gaikokujin @commonHuskyfan @Papio No, he's just not as gullible as you. False light is still false.
@commonHuskyfan @Papio NO. the responsibility of proving that god exists is on YOUR shoulders. Not his. No proof yet. No god. End of story.
@commonHuskyfan @commonHuskyfan @Papio I like your faith  in God. I had two near death experiences that defied logic. The first one, my car went out of control down an icy embankment and headed at neck break speed toward a concrete wall of a building. I cried out to the Lord, "God save me!"
I know the Hand of God stopped the car because it stopped a foot from impact, there was people running out screaming because they witnessed my car headed directly toward the building. Â I didn't have my foot on the brake of the car so I know that it was by His Hand.Â
 Second witness, a friend and I were traveling with our children and came to an intersection of a busy city, I looked both ways and thinking the way was clear put my foot on the gas to cross, I felt a spiritual hand grab my foot away from the gas and slam it on the brake , a big semi-truck that I didn't even see , went  within inches of hitting the car.
 I believe in God and know that on these and other times in my life He has averted disaster from happening to myself and other family members through the power of prayer and our guardian angel that has his ear anytime that one of His, calls upon him. Â
Thank God we have the Faith in Him and his saving grace. Â I keep praying that Papio and others like him would not be so close-minded on matters of Faith. Â They should read proverbs Chapter 6:6, A fool says in his heart there is no God, it also tells what will happen to them.
@K. Coleman @PapioÂ
In this case, there is a violent criminal who is still roaming the streets, because a silly woman didn't think she should call the police. That harms everyone. Xtian dominionists are in Congress, making laws that deny reality & affect everyone in the world. People can believe whatever they want, but they should act like rational human beings concerned for the well-being of society.
@Papio I do apologize for calling you that. It was not very nice or charitable of me.
Facts: This woman believed. She prayed for help. Based on what she reported, it is reasonable to assume that she believes God intervened. I have no reason to doubt her story.Â
I have many personal reasons why I believe - but the trick is that I cannot prove ANY of them - that is why I believe, because it validates what I've read in scripture about faith. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
@commonHuskyfan @Papio He is hate-filled and rejects God because he doesn't want to change his/her behavior.  he loves his dark behavior and doesn't like having it exposed by the Light.
@Papio Sir, even if you believe they are deluding themselves with superstitious nonsense, who are you say what, "...people shouldn't believe.."?  Does it infringe on your life? Does it take money out of your pocket?  Is it hurting you personally?  You have your beliefs, and feel strongly about them, why not allow others the same freedom to believe as they wish. Â
Justifying bad behavior, because the other guys does it, is still wrong. Â Why lower yourself to such a petty level? Â Besides, whenever an Atheist appears 'rabid' or over zealous, it makes life harder for other Atheists.
@commonHuskyfan @Papio @commonHuskyfan @Papio Thank you for the label "perpetrator of sarcasm." I like it. The reason people shouldn't believe in gods is because there is not one verifiable piece of evidence to support their existence. I have an invisible, undetectable dragon in my garage. Prove me wrong. Put your facts on the table.
@Busyhands That's not really the point... If god supposedly saved her, then by the same logic god selects murder victims, rape victims, and which kids are going to get molested... It can't be one sided.
@what? @Busyhands And yes it is the point & you just prove it was by mocking
@Gaikokujin @what? @Busyhands And if I squint just so I can see the man in the moon... Your point being what one wants to see is not exactly proven fact, however unlikely or unsound the logic it's still seen as one wants to see it.
God made me stop by and say this is the stupidest thing I've read today. Â If you believe in God you know my message is true.
Or not.
God helps those who help themselves. She should have reported it immediately.
@Glassman God helps those that help themselves because those that help themselves (to other peoples belongings) need god's help the most.
Me, I do just fine without any gods.
meanwhile, by not filing a police report this woman allows these guys to try this again with someone else. hopefully god will save any future victims also...
glad she's ok, but its irresponsible to not file a report.
@SwampThing Incredibly irresponsible.
Faith is one thing, but not reporting a burglar is ridiculous. Hopefully nobody else was robbed because of her not reporting it.
@Melissa Angevine I agree, obviously, as we posted at just about the same time...
@SwampThing Great minds think alike. :)
God does not say He will answer every prayer. He answers those that come from the heart and are in His will. It is all in His timing. We are not gods, and we can't fully understand His power because He is almighty. Now, for those that do not believe, that's totally fine. This is what is called free will. You can choose what you believe. God gives us all a chance to believe. The power of prayer is very real. For those that are strong in faith, they can testify to the wonderful things that prayer has done. And, don't even talk about tithing being a bad thing. Worldly people will see that as giving 10% to a church but have you ever talked to someone that has tithed and gone broke? In fact, every person I know that tithes has been blessed financially.
@Koreanman012Uh...I highly recommend that you read Matt 7:7-8 because Jesus says otherwise as far as answering prayers. Here I'll help you out a bit.
Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:
8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.
 Basically, Jesus is saying that if you ask, you will receive what you ask for.
@MoonDragonWitch@Koreanman012I know that verse very well. But, you should take it in context. When you ask God for things in prayer, it should be with the right heart, in faith, and in proper spirit. For example, if a kid asks his dad for a gun, will a loving father give the kid a gun? Or if the kid asks for food, will a loving father give him a stone? You can't just ask for anything and expect to get everything.
Verses like 1 John 5:14 clarify this more..."This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."
@Koreanman012Â Which particular God are you referring to? Like the Catholic, Mormon, Protestant, Muslim, Unitarian, Orthodox, Baptist or Lutheran version? If I decide to join a church, I want to join the specific one that gets into heaven.
@Just_Mike @Koreanman012 I believe in the God that sent His son Jesus Christ to save us from our sins. He came as man, lived a sinless life, died, and rose again. There is a reason why Jesus says He is the way, truth, and life. He is the way to Heaven.
@justme LOL!
the one that leads you to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior.
@Papio @Koreanman012 I wasn't arguing, just curious which particular denomination is the right one. ;)
@Koreanman012 @Just_Mike There's no arguing with someone of faith. They are 100% right, no matter what. There is not one thing you can say as they are starting with an absolute truth and working backward. A great big neon sign could appear in the sky, saying "This is Jesus. I got it wrong. Horus is the one true way," and a Christian wouldn't believe it because it is not in line with the absolute truth.
The simple definition of faith is to believe in something you can not see. So many people are so ready to put down this woman and her faith. She is not asking you to believe her. She simply is telling her view af what would have been a terrifying event. There have been studies done on the power of prayer. People in 4 hospitals were prayed for by volunteers. The patients did not know they were being prayed for yet they healed faster and were released quicker than those not prayed for. I believe in God and in his son Jesus Christ Yet I am not asking anyone else to have my beliefs. I hope to one day go to heaven and experience the wonder the Bible promises. If I do not see you there I will not judge you but I will understand that you could not have faith in something you cannot see or hear.
@taxproThe only problem is, the results of those studies weren't what you said. There was no difference in the health of those who were prayed and who weren't prayed for when the praying was done in secret. Of those who knew they were being prayed for, they had significantly more complications. Â

Here's the study itself

Education is key. Educate yourself.
@PuyallupCoug @taxpro Â
Your link wasn't posted correctly...and it is only an abstract of the study..not the study itself.
Just for education's sake.Â
@taxpro I'm not sure I would like a God who helps people more if they get the most prayers.
@therunner @taxpro That is not how it works. God is not a genie ready to dish out answers to prayers as a result of praying "more" than someone else.Â
@commonHuskyfan @Papio Amen !!
@PuyallupCoug @commonHuskyfan @therunner @taxpro "Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it."
John 14:13-14
@commonHuskyfan @Papio Amen !!
@Papio I'm surprised Papio. You have an opportunity to speak intelligently on why you don't believe, yet you throw insults and crude remarks. If you want to discuss this seriously, then step up to the plate and do so with some amount of maturity and sincerity.Â
And trust me, Christians are not offended by the bible, or its teachings. Quite the contrary.Â
PuyallupCoug @commonHuskyfan therunner taxpro oh, stop, stop, stop! Stop using the bible to embarrass the Christians. Nobody likes a know-it-all. Next you'll be saying that they should have short hair, as commanded in 1 Chorinthians, or that they should hate their family (in Luke).
@commonHuskyfan @Papio He will not be mocked? A universal super being cant stand me questioning the logic of his followers? Not very omnipotent, is he? Here's a test: If Jesus is there, set fire to my left testicle right now? (Pause....) No, still two boys in a bag. How simple that would have been for him.
@Koreanman012 @Papio Well, obviously, if we lived in the 1st century, we'd worship the king. We'd also rub dung on our wounds, burn non-believers and think we could ward off the plague by smoking dried guano on a full moon. We would, however, be wrong.
@PuyallupCoug @commonHuskyfan @therunner @taxpro Yes, but keep it in context. He was speaking to his disciples in that passage - not in some sense of just granting everything they wanted.
Paul wanted relief from his ailments and prayed earnestly, but what did God say? My grace is sufficient for thee. Not every prayer is answered, God says that Himself.Â
@commonHuskyfan @therunner @taxpro Actually your bible quotes Jesus (who was in fact, also god) as saying that if you ask for anything, he'll do it for you. I believe it's John 14:13
@Papio I wrote it, and publicly claim I believe it whole-heartedly. It is rubbish perhaps to your ears, but not mine. I do not stand alone in my beliefs either. I believe that Jesus is the Son of God, that He died for my sins and yours, and He rose again and is seated on the throne, alive.Â
He indeed is Super, especially when you consider what a dirtbag I've been, yet He still loves me and offers hope to me. But there is a caveat, He does expect obedience - and He will not be mocked.
But perhaps you should open your bible and get on your knees in earnest. You aren't alone.
@PapioWait, I don't get it. So back in the day, kings were worshiped and it was the norm. But, today, you refer to God as a super being and you think it's ridiculous to worship Him?
@Papio read what you just wrote and you will also see a lot of blather.
@commonHuskyfan @Papio What a load of cobblers! A super being wants me to worship him? Read the drivel you just wrote and try to see what blather it is.
@Papio Christ gave a model prayer for you. Read it. It does not start out with 'I want" or "I need" - in fact, scripture is clear that when you come to pray, you come to listen first.Â
When you pray, you worship Him - because you realize your condition compared to His Holiness and His right to judge you based on that - yet He first chooses to give you salvation through His Son - and the realization of the kindness and love involved in that free gift, despite you being unworthy, is the realization of Grace.
@commonHuskyfan @therunner Well, then how does it work? You're telling me that I spent six years at a catholic school on my knees praying for Susie-May's bra strap to fail and for me to get a glimpse of her gazumbas all for no reason? I thought the whole reason behind praying was to send requests to God. Are you saying he already knows what you want and what he's going to give you, but just likes hearing you beg? That doesn't sound right.
@taxpro Point us to those studies. They would be a great read. Seriously. If you can give us the articles and where they were published and peer reviewed, that'd be great.
@Papio @taxpro lol
