Senate candidate Baumgartner uses vulgarity with reporter

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - A U.S. Senate candidate frustrated by the lack of focus on the war in Afghanistan refused to apologize Tuesday for telling a reporter to "go f--- yourself" after an interview about beleaguered Missouri Senate candidate Todd Akin.
Republican hopeful Michael Baumgartner told The Associated Press that the vulgar email was a personal note to Seattle-based political blog PubliCola. In the message, Baumgartner included a photo of someone who recently died in Afghanistan. The reporter, Josh Feit, later posted the photo and email comment on the site.
Baumgartner's campaign originally released a statement apologizing for the expletive, but the candidate later told KOMO News that he didn't regret sending the email.
"Let me clarify that. The campaign put out a press release that said we apologize. In fact, I'm not apologizing for that," he said.
Feit interviewed Baumgartner on Monday about the widely disparaged comments by Akin on the issue of rape. He said Baumgartner briefly expressed frustration about the lack of focus on the war in Afghanistan but that the email was a surprise.
Feit said he tried unsuccessfully to reach out to Baumgartner several times following the email.
Baumgartner declined to discuss what prompted him to send the note, but he reiterated in an AP interview that he didn't think the media was giving proper attention to the war. Baumgartner is a state senator who previously did diplomatic work in Iraq and Afghanistan. One of the prominent messages of his campaign has been to end the war in Afghanistan and stop American casualties there.
"The problem is that many media outlets, including PubliCola, do not want to talk about why these men and women continue to be killed," he said in a statement Tuesday. He apologized to Feit for using "strong language."
In his note to PubliCola, Baumgartner included a photo of Patrick Feeks, a Navy SEAL who recently died in Afghanistan. Baumgartner's campaign previously posted a photo on social media - a post that has since been removed - saying that Feeks was the best friend of one of Baumgartner's friends.
The photo showed Baumgartner and Feeks, who is from of Edgewater, Md., carrying guns and body armor.
Baumgartner declined to discuss Feeks, saying he doesn't want to make a political statement out of his relationship with the SEAL.
Akin's comments in the Missouri Senate race - in which he said women's bodies can prevent pregnancies in cases of "legitimate rape" - has drawn widespread outrage from Republicans nationally. Rob McKenna, the GOP gubernatorial candidate in Washington state, said Tuesday that the remarks disqualified Akin from holding high office.
Baumgartner told PubliCola that Akin's comments were "inexcusable and stupid and ignorant." Baumgartner opposes abortion.
Baumgartner has been struggling to gain traction in his campaign against Democratic U.S. Maria Cantwell. She won the primary earlier this month with 56 percent of the vote. Cantwell also has $2.1 million in cash ready to spend on the campaign, compared to $182,000 for Baumgartner.

Another Dick in training...
Calling Feit a reporter is like calling a slug, meat. Pages of the Stranger with his writing on it are best used as toilet paper.
I think the Aiken story has merit, because this fool is a member of the US Science Committee and spouts falsehoods about biology from his cake hole with ease - but you are all correct- his moment should be over now that everyone knows that. That said, The soldiers serving in Afghanistan are far more important and I hope we can safely bring them all home ASAP. Telling a reporter to F off will not offend the vast majority of them either.
Good for him, I would of said the same thing.
I think this fool Akin has had enough attention from us all (whether we want to hear about it or not) and needs to crawl back into the hole he came out of.
I am somewhat amazed that the majority of people running for office don't tell these vulture reporters that sort of thing daily.......
Politics aside --- I saw the interview on TV last night. The "offended reporter" is obviously using this incident as a catalyst to get himself some publicity. It worked. He's getting his 15 minutes.Â
Good for Baumgartner, he has my vote. I can think of several main stream reporters that should be told this ie. Chuck Todd and Andrea Mitchell. This shouldn't even be a story. Same biased media will barely cover Joe Biden's numerous idiotic comments including his saying "this is a big f***ing deal" to the president. Way to go Mike!  Â
Why has mainstream media - the local news - decided to write about a President that not only keeps us in the current conflicts, but has now added military troops to the fight in four (4) African nations?
Â
The most of any President. Â We do not need one man to send Americans to war. Â That is the job of Congress.
Â
Bring the troops home or declare WAR and end each one in a matter of minutes or hours.
Start by bringing home the troops from WWII; then 1954 Korea; than Asia from Vietnam. Â We can no longer afford it nor with the weapons America has today is it needed.
Â
We need to elect someone that will get us out of Africa, Iraq, and Afghanistan.
Well itâs a good thing reporters never swear, because I know that never happens. This shouldnât even be news.
Although I don't support Baumgartner and will vote against him, I don't fault him for saying "Go F*** yourself to a reporter". I understand the feeling, and if I met Baumgartner or any of his self-absorbed elitist colleagues in Congress, that's likely what I would tell all of them.
Baumgartner is right - we have forgotten the war in Afghanistan.
Â
From the Miami Herald - We are forgetting this war!

 @Truth Percolates "Baumgartner is right - we have forgotten the war in Afghanistan."
Well, Willard AND Paul seem to, judging from how much they talked about the war and the troops during the RNC...
Good, reporters should be told often to go f**k themselves. If they would stick to issues that mean something instead of following the herd or going for the the sensational, they wouldn't need it so much.
I just love it when these clowns use dead American soldiers to further their agendas or to dodge sensitive issues.
Believe me, the dead American soldier of the picture you used did not die for you, your cause, the country or the vaguely defined and justified wars, he died for the soldiers next to him. Now go f--- yourself!
 @Larry*X*K Well said!
There is a lot more to this story than that, that is being reported. Either way I will still continue to support Baumgartner. Right or Left they all use profanity.
Yeah. Keep the wheel spinning. Steer that ship in the right direction. Talk about mindless boneheads. Try using whats betwixt the ears for a change. A REAL CHANGE>
@SandyBeach At the end of the day its all a distraction from the reality that this country is only a shell of what it used to be. People donât take the time to look at real issues, and media outlets all over push this BS and whatever Snooky is up too. Open your eyes America there are far bigger things to worry about  than an email containing the F-word.Â
He will fit right in with the rest of them
Funny. Thats exactly what I'd like to tell Congress......
I think we need to have some conservative billionaires buy up one of the liberal media outlets in order to balance the news people are hearing. Right now, 90% leans left.
 @Magic 8 Ball I think that's called Fox News...
@Magic 8 Ball Ever heard of a guy named Rupert Murdoch?
 @Magic 8 Ball The conservatives already have a media outlet... Fox News. What the right really needs is one that is dedicated to speaking the truth, not perpetuating lies.
I think that the news media is reporting on the deaths of our military men and women. Maybe it isn't the leading story every night but we all know it is happening. I hate it as much as anyone and wish we could bring them all home to a huge hero's welcome. The story here is about a US Senate candidate who when being interviewed has to use foul language to get his point across. I mean saying "go F*** yourself" is not the best choice of words. I think we need to send people to Washington who can communicate effectively. That seems to be a problem there. Republican and Democrats can't communicate now, using four letter words will only make the problem worse. I can understand frustration but why couldn't he have sent an e-mail reply saying " I would like to address the issue of...
Good for him! You have my vote Mike!
Not very classy. Not very smart.
 @the tideÂ
You just described Joe Biden!
@the tide - But it's "smart" to have our kids get their brains blown out in Afghanistan while the media ignores or disregards the truth? o......k
How about if the media just puts on a big 4 hour epic special Friday night on every TV channel where giant groups of democrats all over the nation riot and chant "legitimate rape! legitimate rape! legitimate rape!" over and over while holding pitch-forks and burning posters of Romney and Ryan. Would that finally make the Liberals feel better? Get it all out of their system, then? Do they have to attempt to hang those words on every Republican, Conservative, and Christian everywhere and in every interview from now until the elections?
Â
I can understand Baumgartner's frustration completely. The media should all collectively do what he said.
 @A Believer I do not have a problem with Baumgartner telling the reporter to F off. I do have a problem with our still being present in Afghanistan and the money and lives being wasted there. I also have a problem with idiots who push a conservative agenda and use outright lies to do so while serving on the US Science Committee. Scientific integrity is important.
@A Believer - Well said! Thank you.
He's absolutely right. KOMO and many others have not been reporting on the deaths of our soldiers in Afghanistan.Nor are they telling us that Iraqi's are asking for our help again. They are more interested in a Republicans stance on abortion AKA murdering unborn babiesQuestion now is, will KOMO interview Cantwell and ask her about Afghanistan?Â
 @Saving Grace You are correct. I hear more about Afghanistan and Iraq on NPR and other public radio stations than I do here or on any more mainstream radio or news site. That is ironic in that many of you commenting here perceive public radio as "liberal media" or worse. Check it out though, as you may find the stories you are looking for about the world outside this country and it's election.
 @Saving Grace If the media aren't reporting on deaths in Afghanistan, how come I keep hearing about them? Why do the conservatives keep making this stuff up?
"Baumgartner declined to discuss Feeks, saying he doesn't want to make a political statement out of his relationship with the SEAL."
Â
...uhhh... TOO LATE!
@JLS1950 Not really, he is not the one making the political statement out of his relationship with the SEAL. Publicola is the one to blame there.
WOW! I can't believe it... she has over twice as much as he does to spend for the campaigne??? So, is it who ever has the most money wins? That is pretty DISGUSTING!. She's hasn't done our state much good... but some how has all this money??? And no one is upset about that????
 @itsme Can we ask the same question about Willard having a larger campaign fund than the President?
 @OrcasThunder and one should search for the connections between Romney and Stericycle - he's anti abortion unless it makes him some money.
@itsme once they get to DC they are introduced to MANY lobbyists with deep pockets, but mostly the enviro's, abortionists, and UNIONS. They pretty much own democrats.
 @Saving Grace  @itsme You do realize that the top GOP candidates have more money for their campaign, and that both have supported corporate person-hood...don't you?
That may well be true, especially the part of consumers 'not caring' about having a hardcopy--I DIDN'T say it was a GOOD thing and I DIDN'T say it was smart for the consumer! Just clarifying, since there is an increasing rift between the one-time parallel universes of good sense and contemporary trends.
So...and Joe Gaffe Biden said this is a big "******" deal........I demand his immediate resignation! The American people are tired of your games libs.
@ByeByeBarry you do remember Dick Cheney saying this very thing to Sen. Patrick Leahy, on the floor of the senate and it was recorded and spread all over the news right? Who really cares anyways? It's not a democrat/republican thing....it's a hot headed response issue.Â
@ByeByeBarry Did you here Romney is outraising Obama by millions? Even people in Chicago are giving to Romney.
 @ByeByeBarry Baumgartner was a Republican. You know, part of the "Conservative" crowd that left a staggering mess in Washington once they passed I-695?Â
Anyone who knows the reporter, Josh Feit, can assume that the interview needed such a response ;o)
Good for Baumgartner! Sometimes a person just has to tell them ninny libtards what to do with themselves.
The GOP continues its classless spiral down the tube.
 @Klondiko Ah so you are for the war then.
@Klondiko
Â
Then join me in demanding Biden's resignation over his bid "******" deal comment regarding healthcare? Hypocrite!
 @ByeByeBarry Team Jarrett is planning to disrupt the GOP convention in Tampa using Poor Old Joe as the victim. Watch how they will try to blame a crazed republican.
 @Saving Grace  @ByeByeBarryÂ
"Watch how they will try to blame a crazed republican."
Which one?
