SEQUIM, Wash. -- A 78-year-old Sequim man who was seriously injured when his boat exploded late last month has died, according to the King County Medical Examiner.

Keith R. Bryant was aboard his 40-foot boat when it exploded on January 31.

Clallam County Fire officials say the boat was in a sea slip at the John Wayne Marina when the explosion happened just before 6 p.m.

Bryant suffered burns and broken bones in the explosion. He died on Wednesday. The cause of death was listed as thermal burns to approximately 5 percent of his body.

The explosion ripped the boat into pieces and was powerful enough to damage boats up to 75 yards away.

It's unclear what caused the explosion, but it has been ruled an accident.
