Sheriff: Murdered Renton man may have interrupted burglary

RENTON, Wash. -- The man found dead Monday night near Lake Desire in what had been classified as a suspicious death died from gunshot wounds and may have interrupted a burglary, according to the King County Sheriff's Office.

"Detectives believe what's possible is that he came home and maybe confronted some intruders in the house," said Sgt. Cindi West. "Whether they were committing a burglary or not we don't know."

The Sheriff's Office responded to reports of a 27-year-old not breathing in a home in the 17800 block of E Lake Desire Drive SE outside Renton around 10:40 p.m. Monday and arrived to find Ryan Prince dead. Neighbors barely realized there had been trouble.

"I heard a single gunshot," said John Emerson, who lives a short distance away. "I wasn't sure at the time if it was a gunshot or not."

It was later determined Prince died of gunshot wounds after possibly interrupting a burglary and being shot by the intruders, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Detectives are now seeking any info into what happened at the house, which is occupied by the owners of a medical marijuana business called The Solution. They say the home is not a grow operation - but don't know if the suspects thought cash or drugs might be kept inside.

"We don't know for sure but we are certainly looking at that aspect that it's possible that it's related," West said.

Detectives are now focused on finding the killers, and hope by releasing this information a tip from the public could help.

"Somebody may know something," West said. "Even if it seems like a very minor piece of information, we encourage them to call."
