SEATAC, Wash. -- One person was killed and another person was wounded in a shooting at a marijuana grow operation in SeaTac early Monday.
King County sheriff's Sgt. Cindi West said a woman called 911 just before 3 a.m. to report the shooting.
Deputies found one person dead inside the home in 3000 block of South 146th Street, and another person who had been shot was taken to Harborview Medical Center in critical condition.
West said the two attackers got away. No description was immediately available, but West said they believe the victims knew the attacker and it wasn't a random crime.
About 50 marijuana plants were inside the house, and West said detectives are trying to determine if the shooting happened during a robbery attempt.
"That's what a lot of people think because of the marijuana grow but that doesn't mean that's the case," West said.
The name of the person who was killed has not been released.

First of all, some of you are making assumptions. Regardless if it was a legal grow operation or not, the victim was visiting a friend. He may or not have know about the grow operation, but rather was in the wrong place at the wrong time. Before you go assuming anything, one person has died and another is fighting for his life...much more important than your beliefs on marijuana and assumptions of heavier drugs being involved.
Shooting at houses...regardless of what goes on there, is horrific. Back in my day, mailboxes were knocked down, but nobody ever shot at a house.
I imagine one person won't return to our legal system now and any outstanding warrants can be closed for them. I guess the attackers will add to their rap sheets.
Welcome to the future...
@realdeal599This has been around before your grandpas grandpa bud, just because you chose to ignore it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. I-502 is the future and it will be fully implemented by the end of the year and this incident doesn't reflect the new laws at all because those laws aren't in place right now. This story does point out part of the old systems inadequacies and exactly why we are legalizing it to take it out of the hands of cartels and violent criminals.
...and Seattle politicians promoted and encouraged legalization of pot to reduce crime.
@NWDemocrat The new law doesn't make grow houses legal. Keep trying there buddy.
@Hachee_Bungwhy @NWDemocratÂ
But if the politicians had it their way...it would be legal to grow. Â This new law is just one more step towards "progression".
@realdeal599 @Hachee_Bungwhy @NWDemocrat This like Assisted Suicide first than comes the government health second I got the picture
Remember the times when one would read about a shooting once a month, remember when one one would read about a shooting once a week, remember the times when one would read about a shooting daily, today one reads how many shooting we have had today and we have all this crazy talk about gun control go figure....
@Windowseat Remember the days when corporal punishment was OK. I think we need to go back to beating our kids rears when the act up at a young age. I grew up fearing and respecting my parents. Does any kid really fear a time out?
RandomShiz2...Are you listening to the headlines?? Welcome to the 21st century!! It's evil and it doesn't take much to murder..Some murder just for money!! So yes Heroin and Cocaine and yes Pot are very good reasons in the minds of addicted people. Fricken they'll kill ya for your shoes, sale them and go buy some drugs. Come on really!!
Some marijuana entrepreneurs just don't take kindly to competition on their turf. Â
Definitely ain't gonna be the lowest priority this time. I'm sure this story is mixed with both top issues; legal pot AND guns!
Here is an idea maybe the news media should put up a map with all the grow houses and their locations on it so people can find there marijuana easier. Like they do gun owners in New York. Do you think that would help at all?
@Mike Did you have anything intelligent to add or do you like presenting random idiocy into conversations for your own humor?
@stillywack @Mike Both
Maybe...so this might be just a phase??
We're not talking booze...We're talking about a drug that can bring millions off the street. You can't get crap for a bottle of vodka. People are killed, robbed and left for dead when it comes to pot, cocaine and heroin. People are addicted, lost and desperate for these drugs and they came, they saw, and they took whether they liked it or not!! IT WAS ROBBERY of both POT and LIFE.
@reelin21 Mixing marijuana and heroin in the same sentence shows some ignorance, have you actually taken any of these? People don't get so addicted to marijuana that they have to rob and steal. Heavily addicted users of heroin and meth, commit other crimes to pay for their habit, and maybe rip off a dealer or two. Right now, since you can't just buy marijuana anywhere, it still goes for a premium on the streets, so stealing it and selling it is still profitable. Once it is legal, they'll just grow it themselves or buy it because there won't be any profit left in stealing it.
@RandomShiz2 I never met a meth or heroin addict who didn't smoke marijuana first. Not saying that all marijuana smokers will be hard core addicts, but most hard core addicts started by smoking marijuana . As it is right now, being in the marijuana culture just puts you in touch with harder drugs.Â
Oh, and you're right that marijuana smmokers don't commit crimes to feed their habit because they are too busy leaching off mommy and daddy and sitting in their basement playing the latest and greatest video games. Â
@jlynnhood Actually, I have several friends that have smoked MJ most of their adult lives, never did it lead elsewhere, they are very productive members of our society in very influential positions and you would never know meeting them that this is how they relax in the evening. They have all raised very good kids, none of whom ever grew up to abuse either drugs or alcohol and went on to college themselves.  I think if you take the illegal element out of pot you are going to find that it really is a non issue. I'm certainly not saying it is not without its own issues. I did smoke myself years ago, gave it up so long ago I cant even remember when that was now. But even when I was smoking it, I certainly was not living in my parents basement living off of them, I was in college earning a GPA of 3.8 (I paid my own way through college) and working to pay the rent. There are some stereotypes that are just plain wrong, of course there are some that are correct too, so you should hide the cheesy puffs...
"As it is right now, being in the marijuana culture just puts you in touch with harder drugs"...hopefully that will change, hopefully.Â
What was this a unhappy customer wanting their money back? Â
This type of thing NEVER happens at alcoholic beverages dispensaries.
@sunnysandiego: Â It sure did during prohibition!
@sunnysandiego Because alcohol is made abundantly available to the public.
@sunnysandiego There was a small group of people that were doing things like this in Chicago I think it was the FBI
@sunnysandiego but it used to happen at distilleries and such during and even right after prohibition.Â
â@UFO4U: Shooting at marijuana grow house leaves 1 dead, 1 critically hurt komonews.com\/news\/local\/Shoâ¦jxT v@komonewsewsâ sledgehammer for a flea??
Just another day in SeaTac
@Sanctuary Or Seattle, or Kent, or Auburn, or White Center. or Tacoma etc etc...
The really important part of this story is that the state gets their share of the taxes and the potheads get their fix. A murder here and a murder there is a small price to pay.
@jdoll88 That isn't part of the story at all but thanks for trying to contribute. Get educated then try to contribute something helpful! The state is not collecting taxes because the laws are still being made up and you cannot legally buy in Washington right now. Thanks for trying but use some facts next time!
@stillywack @jdoll88 Dear Wack...sarcasm dear, sarcasm. This is the opening bell of things to come and my point is that eventually the state will be collecting taxes and the potheads will be able to luxuriate in unlimited pot to burn what few brain cells they have left. Again, the whole legalization thing is about money and the state is at the forefront.Â
@jdoll88Â
LOL, seems to be the mind set for some..
Not the first time and won't be the last. Crime didn't magically all go away with I-502 as suporters claimed it would...
@Citizen#3457899654Â
I-502 hasn't fully been implemented. There's no legal way to obtain marijuana for recreational use at the present time. Its a bit soon to call it a failure.
@MetalHeadCrab Yes, there is still time for people to try to get rich off of potheads without going to prison and maybe without getting shot during a grow operation rip.Â
@Citizen#3457899654 This has been going on forever. This is nothing new and has nothing to do with i-502 because the law hasn't even been finished much less implemented. The drug cartels and those politicians that enable them have been getting rich off of weed for far too long. Are you as opposed to liquor companies supplying alcoholics? Weed has infinite potential beyond just getting someone high and someday it could come to your rescue. Try to keep an open mind instead of passing on your biased hateful opinions.
@MetalHeadCrab @Citizen#3457899654 You are absolutely correct. In fact other than stopping law enforcement from cracking down on users there has been no real effort to provide a safe and effective way for these users to obtain their green. I don't know why the State didn't just license the existing Medical MJ Clinics/"Dispensaries" to be able to sell MJ to anyone over the age with proper ID. However even with that... there's the growing side...and the Medical MJ growers could have also been temporarily licensed to provide the product until the state had a full program up and running.  Still crime will exist...as it still does for ETOH and cigarettes.Â
@Citizen#3457899654Â Did supporters really say the crime would fully seize? Â Alcohol and cigarettes are legal, yet stores are still robbed for these items. Â "Lets keep marijuana illegal and keep giving billions to the drug cartels". Â Yeah, great idea! Â
@sfvcyco @Citizen#3457899654 Real, actual serious supporters of the initiative never claimed all the crime would magically go away if it passed. Why would you go and make stuff up like that? That's a little bit weird.
If I have or own something and someone comes to my home to steal it ---they will get shot.......
don't be a thief=not being shot down
@im not mean your a winer It doesn't appear that you're a very good shot- as they apparently got away with your middle-school spelling books.
Anytime there's a money tree involved........ It's currency in plant form....
If you're going to grow marijuana, you'd better have a very good security system in place. Condolences to all.
@Susan Maybe, when it's available to the masses legally.... less violence will occur..
@Funky-Munky @Susan One can hope. Although I think it will all hinge on how they go about allowing the growing and distribution. If they limit this they have done little to disperse where the $$ is.
@Funky-Munky @aintno1special @Susan Everyone except those "enlightened" folks we have elected into office!
@aintno1special @Funky-Munky @Susan Everyone agrees if the prices don't come down from street value..... The Black Market will win out....
