Man, 70, jailed for allegedly murdering longtime girlfriend

ROCKPORT, Wash.-- A 70-year old man was booked into the Skagit County Jail Sunday for investigation of second-degree murder in the the death of his 61-year-old longtime girlfriend, according to the Skagit County Sheriff's Office.

About 7:30 a.m, Sunday, deputies responded to a residence in the 50000 block of Railroad Avenue in Rockport after receiving a call from a person who stated that his neighbor told him that he had killed his wife.

Deputies arrived on scene and contacted the suspect, a Rockport area resident, outside the house.

Medical staff arrived on scene and attempted to revive the victim, a 61-year-old Rockport area woman. The victim, the longtime girlfriend of the suspect, had multiple injuries to her head and face.

The suspect was taken into custody at the scene without incident, according to the Sheriff's Office.

Skagit County Sheriff's Office detectives, with the assistance of the Washington State Patrol, are continuing to investigate the homicide.

The name of the woman who was killed has not been released.
