Skagit farmers would like to grow marijuana

MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - Many of the people at Tuesday night's marijuana forum in Mount Vernon had a small-farm mentality.
The Skagit Valley Herald reports many of the comments to the state Liquor Control Board recommended using small farmers instead of corporations to produce the drug. Others suggested being allowed to "grow your own" or being able to sell marijuana from farm stands.
One man who said cannabis shops would boost fast food sales lit up a joint at the end of his testimony.
The forum was the fifth in a series the liquor board is holding as it drafts regulations for the production and sale of marijuana made legal by voters in November.
Other forums are planned in Tacoma, Yakima and Bremerton.

My husband and I live where growing marijuana is legal, and we grow our own at home. I would not recommend this in a state/country where it is illegal. HomeGro sells this six shooter LED growing system that uses the same technology NASA uses to grow food for their astronauts in space. It was worth a try since they offered us a 30-day money back guarantee. We decided to invest, and it has been well worth every dime. Saved us a lot of money in the long run. Â http://www.home-gro.com
Not like we don't have enough problems up here with crime and DUI's. Yeah lets bring Marijuana into the mix. Just because it is legal doesn't mean it should be grown everywhere.Â
Having met a lot of the farmers up here I don't have much faith that they could grow Marijuana under the conditions of whatever laws get drafted. It would quickly get out of hand and lead to a huge increase in crime.Â
There would need to be a lot of improvements made before we can grow Marijuana in this county.Â

The only way he makes his point more effectively would be to have enhaled a BK Whopper immediately following his dube. Hilliarious. Tell me someone got that on YouTube please.
The genie has been let out of the bottle. I can't wait to see when everyone is scrambling to try and put it back in.
Come to Skagit Valley Hemp festival - it happens a couple of months after the tulip festival - dude.
Pot is so easy to grow, everybody should grow it.
@IslandAtheist Why buy it now, grow it!
The WSLCB seems to have forgotten that the stated goal here was to "sell" marijuana. They appear to be more worried about how to regulate, track, license and tax it, and not sell it. The initiatives goals were to remove sales from the "criminal black market" and increase revenues. Marijuana already has an existing production system, sales force and customer base that revolves around an accepted price point, and the existing system does not have to pay for expensive state regulations, licenses or taxes. Based on what I have seen from the public hearing process, the state will end up selling NO marijuana because the required retail price needed to pay for the state mandated overhead will price it out of the marketplace.
They are stalling as long as possible before the December deadline. Meantime, Colorado will be welcoming folks for MJ tourism this summer.Â
CHUCKLE...... Doesn't everybody? Nothing like a money tree.....
I wonder how the pricing would compare to the current black market.
"liquor control board recommends using small farmers." so they want to put a cap on the farm size? why? to give weed that feel good trendy "organic" label and then charge naive rich folks three times what it's worth like they do with crops for whole foods? perhaps instead we should allow people the freedom to choose their own farm size like we do for wineries and breweries in our state now. some will choose to be small and some will be large. and why not allow people to grow their own just as you can brew your own beer and wine legally?
@dorimonsonfan what about security for these farms and farmers.
My guess is they'll leave that to Smith and Wesson.
@dorimonsonfan The problem will be that any farm that grows over 100 plants will be a target for the DEA. The farms will have to be small to stay out of sight of the DEA. The state wants to just have about 100 growers but thats just not realistic. Between the excessive taxes and the lack of supply to meet demand will make prices sky rocket. And in a way this will be good for small medical growers. Poor people will be able to sell the product they don't need either through dispensaries or on the black market to help make ends meet.
@dorimonsonfan That's in fact the skinny of it....... I will sign that petition to the King!
Our country may be up to our eyeballs in debt, but who cares? Pass the pipe please.
As well as many other places would. Â What else is new???
This would put the Tulip festival to shame.
@F4IÂ Â I could see myself appreciating both... Heck add in a wine festival for the wife and some nice places to stay....
@F4I ...only from the food vendors perspective.
