Soldier gets life in prison for murder, rape at Lewis-McChord
JOINT BASE LEWIS-McCHORD, Wash. - A soldier has been sentenced to life in prison without parole after pleading guilty to charges of killing his wife and raping his teen daughter last year.
Sgt. Robert S. Chiaravallotti also was demoted in rank to the Army's lowest rank of E-1, or private, and ordered to forfeit all pay for the remainder of his life, says Army Lt. Col. Gary Dangerfield.
Chiaravallotti, 41, was charged after an attack on the base last Aug. 25.
He was assigned to the Eighth Army Band in South Korea at the time, according to the Army, and was preparing to go there with his family before the attack.

no hard labor but you wear chains while out of your cell going to the showers

Well I'm glad to see there's still some justice in this state. With their previous track record, I wouldn't expect much more than 20 years at the most!
The state did not prosecute him, the military did under the UCMJ. While the state could have prosecuted him along with the military, usually states and local juristictions decline to do so, allowing the military to do so. The military usually has harsher punishments and fewer legal wrangling that wastes so much time and money in the civilian sector. He will be assigned to Ft Leavenworth, where hard labor is still used as punishment. Basically he will be busting rocks the rest of his life under military juristiction.
@northwestsurfer try this website to learn about Leavenworth: http://usmilitary.about.com/od/justicelawlegislation/a/leavenworth.htm
@northwestsurfer Is hard labor actually that or is it a metaphor? Curious if they break rocks with a sludge hammer and why, if they do. I could more easily imagine them digging ditches. I was sure all of that was just in the movies. I'm glad not to have any experience in these matters, knock on wood.
@northwestsurfer Damn! No wonder! I should've known! ;)
What a huge waste of money to keep this waste of air alive.
What an absolute POS. He's a prime candidate for the death penalty. Glad he will be spending the rest of his days behind bars.Â
Sick and twisted. What he on drugs? He is were he belongs. I hope his daughter gets the support she needs, poor girl.
@Pollywannacracker Bath salts perhaps?  They are used by some members of the military because they don't show up in urine tests.
@UtterReality @Pollywannacracker Some people are just plain crazy.
I hope that forfeiting his pay doesn't add further hardship on his surviving daughter. Â
Indeed, one of the military's finest. Life in prison is too good for him.
