State overwhelmed by applications for pot consultant

OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) - Washington state received so many bids for the new position of marijuana consultant that officials are delaying the announcement of a winner.
Liquor Control Board spokesman Mikhail Carpenter says there were 98 applications for the job, which entails advising the board on rules governing Washington's new legal marijuana industry. The state's voters last fall passed Initiative 502, which legalized up to an ounce of marijuana for adults over 21 and called for a system of state-licensed growers, processors and retailers.
The board had planned to announce the presumptive winning bid on Tuesday, but Carpenter says it's taking a while to go through the bids. The board says it doesn't expect to announce the winner before March 13.

Give me a damn break with this worthless sensationalism KOMO! I once applied for a meter reader probably 20 years ago. The add was out for at least a month. I showed up on the last day to apply and saw a stack of resumes that must have reached a foot high off the table. Â
Quite honestly, any pot head will be more than qualified to do this job, that is if they can stay sober long enough to crunch the numbers. This state is becoming a south park cliche....
The state is "OVERWHELMED" by 98 applications??? Â As AcePaul noted, just about ANY job posting on Craigslist will have a couple HUNDRED applicants respond. Â If the State LCB is overwhelmed by a mere 98 applications, then they need to hire a new Human Resources Director and staff. Â That's just stupid if they're overwhelmed by THAT!
They should have recruited Tommy Chong, that is all.
@Nitroxman  I dunno, Cheech Marin could do as well, plus he;s actually been able to drop the doper persona at several levels. I love Tommy's work, but in this case maybe Cheech would fill just as well.
why are you having to Bid on a job????? this is rediculous
They''ll make their decision after they get the bong re-lit.
@Ankle Biter Pretty much! That's awesome. Here we go over-whelming the government, that's awesome. Can't stop the smokers, put it in the air!
I'm going to invest in Cheetos.

now that's funny right there...i dont care who you are...
The job must have a monthly pot allotment or something LOL
In completely unsurprising news... â@komonews: State overwhelmed by applications for pot consultant http://t.co/cC5qWaYGtmâ
forget consulting...i want to know where to sign up for pot tester job...
@bartle_doo That would be QC.
You had to "bid" for the job? I don't recall seeing anything that stated interested parties had to submit a bid.Â
But, I guess this is how we do things in Washington - pay for the job you want.Â
I truly hope that the person/people who do get this job take it seriously. If this state is going to be a leader in this business, we don't need Cheech and Chong driving the bus.Â
I guess 98 is pretty high to count if you'er smokin the good stuff.
98? Â Geez. I thought it would be in the hundreds. That's not that many.Â
@DT Last time I put an ad on Craigslist for an open position in our company, I received several hundred applications. I personally skimmed the emails and we had a short list within a week. Just goes to show the difference between Olympia and the private sector.
No surprise every user in the state believe they are an expert. that translates to1/2 the state population!
@Man Seveneleven Now that's a marijuana issue we can agree on.....
Give the state workers a few joints, put them in a room full of applicants and some hot pockets and they will figure it out... This i am sure of!
The state will probably hire a bunch of high paid potheads to sit on a panel to make the decision.
@komonews State full of Pot Heads!!
Ed Rosenthal should be at the top of the list if they're actually looking for someone qualified and the price is right. I'm sure the Liquor Control Board will drop the ball and it will probably take another year to institute the program. Thats why this plant should have never have been regulated to begin with.
@Blindman  Marc Emery....... period!
@Funky-Munky @Blindman Yeah but he's from that communist nation up north.lol
@Blindman If they hadn't included provisions to regulate it, the measure would not have passed (or the federal government would have immediately stepped in and put a stop to it, instead of waiting to see how things progress like they are doing now).
Hopefully I didn't mis-read the title or number of applicants. The state of washington has been overwhelmed by 98 applicants? I was expecting to see that 20,000 had applied or something.
@walshga My thoughts exactly. And this article mentions bids for the position. So you can buy this job?
I wonder what the prerequisites are for this position?
@aintno1special GED?
Who said potheads have no ambition? They have a lot of ambition......just much of it regarding pot, and the cultivation/consumption thereof...... :P
@dg54321"When I was a kid I inhaled frequently. That was the point."
- Barack Obama, U.S. President quote on Marijuana
@Funky-Munky @dg54321 Interesting that we have a president of this country, the most militarily powerful country in the world who said that but if you so much as smoked one toke you can't become a Washington State Patrolman. It's no wonder to me that WSP is having trouble hiring enough troupers.
@dg54321 Don't be so hard on yourself.
@dg54321 There's nothing wrong with that.
Right. As compared to the saintly motivations of distilleries, I think you mean.
