State ferries renamed after Seahawks on Super Bowl Sunday
SEATTLE – Passengers riding the Washington State Ferries may be in for a surprise on Sunday.

Gov. Jay Inslee has directed the vessels be named in honor of Seattle Seahawks players - so riders will find themselves boarding the “Russell Wilson” or crossing Puget Sound on the “Richard Sherman."

“We couldn’t be more proud of our Seahawks as they represent our state in the Super Bowl,” said Inslee.

“We’ve already raised the 12th Man flag on each ferry, and this honorary name change is one more way for us to show our appreciation," he added. "Now fans will be able to ride the 'M/V Marshawn Lynch' and go Beastmode round trip from the Kitsap Peninsula."

The state ferry system isn't the only local government entity changing names for Super Bowl Sunday - the city of Issaquah announced it will change its name to "12saquah" for the day.

Assistant Transportation Secretary David Moseley said the ferry name changes are symbolic - and just for one day.

"We think it is a fun way to show our support and give fans a chance to cheer on the Hawks before they pull into port,” Mosely said.

The Washington state ferry system has 22 vessels in its fleet and has named each one after the Seahawks starting offense and defense team members.
