Street sign vigilante messing with rules of road in Maple Leaf

SEATTLE -- A street sign vigilante is messing with the rules of the road in Seattle's Maple Leaf neighborhood.
"I saw what looked garbage bags or some kind of covering on the signs," said Dave Myers.
Somebody placed large black garbage bags over "Do Not Enter" and "Dead End" signs on 103rd near the community pea patch, as first reported by the Maple Leaf Life blog.
Seattle's Department of Transportation is not amused.
"You're essentially creating oncoming traffic in an area where there shouldn't be two way traffic," said Rick Sheridan with SDOT.
But even the 'Do Not Enter' signs don't deter oncoming cars --- they see the sign and still go.
We saw drivers ignore the signs over and over and over again.
"We see them do that quite often, don't see people paying attention to that sign," said Michele Campton-Stehr.
A block away, a street vigilante struck with another message -- a homemade 'Do Not Enter' sign stuck in concrete on a narrow road where there wasn't one.
"There's a right way to address concerns about traffic and bagging signs, that's not the right way," Sheridan said.
SDOT quickly took the sign down. It's against state law to install your own traffic signs or bag the city's, and it's been awhile since Seattle has seen someone make their own rules of the road.
"Several years ago someone installed their own speed bump on a city street and the city removed that," Sheridan said.
And in the same spot where someone dug a hole, the city now plans to place a one-lane road sign. A message back to the vigilante -- it's not a one way and you don't get your way.

So some neighbors got together and got the city to install a "do not enter sign" because they don't want the rest of the vehicles that don't live in the neighborhood traveling on their "personal" street that taxpayers all pay for?Â
"the city now plans to place a one-lane road sign. A message back to the vigilante -- it's not a one way and you don't get your way." Why does this not make sense to me? If you're saying it's a one way road then you're telling the vigilante that it IS a one way. Am I taking it too literal or just not enough coffee this morning?
@cm257n7 "One LANE road", the sign is letting people know that it is only a one lane road but it DOES go both ways - just not at the same time. Yeah, I had to read it a couple times too.
 @sdeneen2001 Ah ha! Thanks!
Home owners do not want two way traffic because they live in an area where there is high traffic.When traffic gets more congested more people will disobey traffic laws to spend less time in their cars.
Â
The Vogon's already proved that all this nonsense is a moot point...tee hee
Well, apparently there was no one listening about something in the area as far as traffic. So, NOW that they're listening "Mysterious Bag Person" let them know the issue.

Sometimes you have to get out there and get forceful with bureaucrats because, if you try to WRITE to them, they just skim thru and the point misses entering their brains.
Time to put a Severe Tire Damage barrier on the Do Not Enter roads.
@Travis Hartnett:Â
I was just thinking the exact same thing
"But even the 'Do Not Enter' signs don't deter oncoming cars --- they see the sign and still go." Ummmmm.....what language was the sign printed in? If it was English, there's your answer.
I remember a while back in Georgetown where a bunch of stop signs had the words "don't" and "believin'" added so it looked like the title of a certain song from Journey. Just glad they didn't decide to just use "don't" to match a Fleetwood Mac song. That could be disaster. ;)
Â
Also, I've noticed in my neighborhood in recent weeks that some dumb dirtbag(s) have peen plastering these post its from the post office with these stupid drawings, probably gang symbols, all over every stop sign, bus sign, light pole, ect. where ver they could post their crap. I just get so damn sick of these bored, dumb punks! Really? Are we really supposed to find this amusing? This one in Maple Leaf is really scary!
Armed citizens patrolling this sector would take care of this.
And when you do not enforce one law how do expect any to be followed. The left has created an enviornment where it is everone for themselves and they just do not care about the others. Like what did you expect in the entitalment capital of the country.
 @bustedupredneck There is an element of truth to this statement. The "people" (and I use that term loosely) that go around committing crimes, defacing property, and breaking rules like this, have ZERO fear of punishment. Our liberal friends, their sue happy lawyers, the A.C.L.U., and every "rights" group out there has contributed to a society of entitled, "all about ME" pukes like the ones that are out there doing this crap. If we still had "spare the rod, spoil the child"......our society wouldn't be the cesspool it's become, but nooooooo......mommy and daddy are told by the teacher or the government how to improperly raise their child, and the results of that are CLEARLY visible.
 @bustedupredneck It has nothing to do with "left" or "right".
 @Glassman  @bustedupredneck well, unless it's "Keep Right"
 @bustedupredneck "And when you do not enforce one law how do expect any to be followed"
So...you would welcome any effort to ticket violators, including cameras?Â
 @OrcasThunder  @bustedupredneck I actually am not opposed to traffic cameras. My theory is if you're not doing anything wrong then you have nothing to worry about. (I just had to bust in and add my 2 cents)
 @bustedupredneck blah blah blah
