Deputies investigate at the scene of the shooting in Stanwood.
STANWOOD, Wash. - A 36-year-old man was shot in the hand by a Snohomish County deputy Thursday morning during a confrontation in Stanwood.

Shari Ireton of the Snohomish County Sheriff's Office says deputies went to the scene, in the 4500 block of Lakewood Road in Stanwood, after receiving a report of a suicidal man with a gun.

When deputies arrived, there was a confrontation and the man would not comply with the deputies' orders, Ireton said. The man "had immediate access to weapons," Ireton said, and was shot in the hand by one of the deputies.

The man was taken to an Everett hospital, then transferred to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle but is still expected to survive.

The deputy who fired the shot is a seven-year veteran of the department and will be placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, as is standard policy for any officer-involved shooting.
