Suspected cellphone thief to victim: 'Have a nice day'

SEATTLE -- Another suspected cellphone thief sprinkled a little salt in the wound with some faux-politeness last Wednesday in South Seattle.

According to the Seattle Police Department's report for the incident, the victim was waiting at the Othello light-rail station around 1:45 p.m.. when a man grabbed the cellphone out of her hand and ran across the tracks.

The victim gave chase, but the man escaped by hopping a pair of chain-link fences between two buildings. Before he disappeared for good, the man turned to the victim and said, "Have a nice day," according to the report.

It's safe to say the man's well-wishes didn't improve the victim's mood. When officers arrived, the victim told them, "I'm not hurt; I'm just mad he got my phone."

And, this isn't the first case like this.

Last November, a woman was walking near Garfield High School when a man reportedly jogged up to her and told her to have a nice day right before he grabbed her phone and ran off.
