Tacoma officer assaulted while responding to loud party

TACOMA, Wash. - A police officer was assaulted while responding to a loud after-hours party in a Tacoma park, but the suspects got away, officials said.
The incident began late Wednesday when officers responded to a report of a noisy party at a park in the 4300 block of McKinley Avenue that had continued after the park closed for the evening.
When officers arrived, they identified a vocal ringleader. As police were talking to her, an officer was assaulted by other members of the group.
The ringleader was detained while other officers tried to track down one or more suspects who assaulted the officer.
The track was ultimately unsuccessful, and the investigation is continuing.
The suspects face possible charges of third-degree assault and rending criminal assistance.
The officer sustained minor injuries in the scuffle.
